I’m guessing tradition has more to do with it.
Since the writers mirror some aspects of Thunderian society in real life (monarchy, elitism, prejudice, slavery), I’m guessing it’d be about 18. I always though Pumyra is a little older than Lion-O.
I’m not really into any of that either; That’s actually one of my worst nightmares!! Oh, well, the comic writers wrote badly, knowing only a handful will read these comics while everyone else reads about the Big 'Uns, ie, Superman, Batman, etc.
I don’t really read any of the big ones. The only ones I read are
Dead pool
Fables
The sandman
Different kinds of manga I can’t list because I have too many!
Teen Titians
Thundercats
Elf quest
Just out of curiosity, did anyone else have the song “In The End” by Linkin Park running through their head by the end of this episode?
No, I had a sad song I made in mind. It was really depressing.
The wah-wah horn went off in my mind when I saw the betrayal. And was replaced by ‘Chevaliers de Sangreal’ by Hans Zimmer at the end.
Who would expect such a betrayal from a Thundercat member
Pumyra finally revealed her true identity and this puts an end to the flirt theories which were discussed thoroughly and in length by the fans. I understand the prospect of Tygra hooking up with Cheetara, I can see many common points for both of them, like their rough upbringing or difficulty finding their niche in life, which can give rise to intriguing moments and great scenarios. On the other hand, I kept my fingers crossed when Lion-O was plainly smitten with the savage Pit warrior. His major role is to become the Lord of the Thundercats and this is a demanding task requiring 100% of his attention and will-power. Yet, the young cub has had the fiercest trials and tribulations since episode 1, and I guess this breach of trust taught him one more lesson, even though it must have been a painful moment. To make matters worse, Lion-O is weighed down by double guilt, not only for mistakenly accepting Pumyra to the team, especially when the rest didn’t actually get along with her, but also for realizing that his inability to save her back in Thandera’s destruction, inevitably lead to her devotion to Mamm-ra. I’ll repeat myself by stressing that Lion-O is a tragic character in the NS. He has had more than his fair share of bad luck and unpleasant situations. Now that Season 1 has ended, we can infer that Lion-O’s odyssey was really a quest not just to find the fabled stones of power but primarily find himself under the heavy difficulties thrown against him almost on every step he took. Paul Giacoppo did an outstanding job in pushing Lion-O over the edge both in episode ‘between Brothers’’ and in ‘’What lies above’’. In the first, he faced directly the betrayal of his own brother and in the second the treachery of the girl he deeply loved, this is a fate worse than death… Really, who would expect such a twist of fate in the most dramatic way?
After watching this ep over and over again I categorize it among my top 5 along with Giacoppo’s ‘’Between Brothers’’. It’s so well written full of suspense and unforeseen turn of events. Even the prefect of the floating city Avista, Vultaire was portrayed as a complex character with unclear purpose. From Part.1 he didn’t appear to be an enemy of Tcats per se, he even gave a cordial reception to the Cats
, but just a protector of his realm who did everything possible to keep his city alive. This is why Lion-O decided not to to take the tech stone and ally with him. However, when the chips were down and was backed into a corner opted for the best of his Ravenmen fleet, even if he wasn’t aware of Mamm-ra ulterior motives. This duplicity was played out very well, and took the ‘’bad guy’’ role to another level, a sophisticated one, giving him a dynamic presence. Thankfully, as in Kaynar and Addicus case the overall mutants upgrade has been unbelievably outstanding going far beyond our initial expectations. In contrast to his 80s counterpart, his looking is much more ferocious and strong, additionally I really liked his depiction as a cultured and refined bird man with skills in technology.

Back in Lion-O, you must all remember that from day one his motto was ‘’Unite or Fall’’ and we witness this statement taking place evidently towards the end of this ep. Finally, Lion-o’s ethical codes and choices were justified, the various races were united under a common cause submitting allegiance to the young Lord. Well, we could say this coalition was similar to the ‘’Allies Of Third Earth’’ the term used in the OS! I think Lion-O made the biggest step to lordship after this event. In the OS it was kind of simpler to convince the natives of his good intentions, but in the 2011 representation everything has to be done through the hard way, generally it took him 26 episodes to earn the trust of the different races, Anet’s saying: ‘‘Because you once stood by us now we stand by you’’ at long last fleshed out as it should be
!
The final battle was an epic one, I think it’s the first time Mamm-ra didn’t have the upper hand in most part of the battle, remember how easily Lion-O was beaten in ‘’Journey to the To the Tower of Omens’’? As Jaga mentioned ‘’the boy isn’t ready yet’’, but the mature process was build up very well during Season 1 and convinced the viewer that Lion-O has been improvement by leaps and bounds mentally as well as physically. Even the Spirit Stone manifested the extra ability to provide him further protection. My only gripe is I wanted to see new techniques of the SoO.

One more thing that riveted my attention was the amazing air battle accompanied with great scenery. Tygra’s impressive aerial skills took me by surprise but I guess this was to be expected, considering his ancestor Tygus. It reminded me a bit of the attack to the Kingdom of Thundera, watching all the Mutant fleet going against Avista. In the Elephant village, mainly the Thundercats tried to singlehandedly prevent the attack, but in ‘’What Lies above’’ we have a grand battle with many forces from both sides. It was great watching the whole Thundercat gang leaping into action, since we scarcely had moments of group performance in Season 1. Every member had an important task, to a greater extent, the sort of neglected by the writers, twins played an integral part in defeating Mamm-ra. Had it not been them gathering up the diverse races of Third Earth, something tells me the episode’s climax would have an unfortunate ending with Lion-O losing all his stones..Also, once again we have a testimony of excellent writing, taking into account the usefulness of the Magical Forever Bag which came in very handy
In the corresponding episode there was much talk about the senseless content of a filler episode, still look how brilliantly Giagoppo brought this mobile base of operations back into the game
All in all, an excellent episode concludes the epic revival of Thundercats.

1) I really, really hope it continues in Season2 , it would be a shame not to finish the story-arc.
2) Did I mention this ‘Come beloved’ was a knife in the heart

Looks like you loved it, Lordore! I thought the same as you with everything. This has to be one of my all-time favorite finales (considering how horrible The Legend of Korra’s was). Having nothing after such a well-written, plot-changing finale is just criminal.
I am trying to be objective to my reviews and opinions on each episode, but this one had some epic moments, the writer, Mr. Giacoppo is responsible for the quality of the finale, in both Parts.
Yeah, i meant to write it sooner, but heck now that Season 1 is ended we have much time for discussions.![]()
Merged Post:
It’s like watching a movie to the middle, consider how awe-full that is.
Had it been like the OS self contained episodes, it wouldn’t be so tragic but know it’s like the story is cut literally in half.
Keep Calm and Let Jaga handle the Sitch.
Lion O you get you players card officially revoked. Not once but twice you let two broads play you. Man I am about to change my avatar.
Lion-O’s the Hamlet of the ThunderCats and Tygra’s a cynical snarker version of Horatio.
YO! How’s things going all? Long time no see
(Just keeping my tradition of being a ~SUPER~ late poster.) Wow this has been an interesting season. I was so hype to see Mumm-Ra get that last stone! And with the inconsistencies in her behavior I thought Pumyra’s turn was a bit shocking, and of course sad for Lion-O, but not like ‘INCONCEIVABLE!’ levels.
The foreshadowing in regards to the triangle was definitely there, and by the end of episode 12, it could have gone either way. Also, er, I wouldn’t call it a preference. Tygra is a pretty big part of Lion-O’s life and the audience is still seeing a lot of things from Lion-O’s perspective. Not completely, but enough so that we sort of react with him, and feel the way that he does. I haven’t seen a character arc for Tygra that in any way compares to Lion-O’s. Tygra let go of a huge chunk of his resentment towards his brother. Is everything perfect between the two? Of course not. I’d be disappointed if everything was suddenly peaches and roses.
Well, in away we could say Lion-o had it coming from Pumyra, the clues were there: Remember under which circumstances they met, the rest of the team didn’t get along with her, she was only talking to LIon-O, she had shown evidences of putting her anger before anyone else, in ‘‘Birth of the Blades’’ i inside the mountain’s corridors, i didn’t buy it that the moment Lion-O and Pumyra split, she fell upon Mamm-ra, she was clearly using Lion-O’s emotions and good nature
Nope the one that came to my mind was Seasons By Dragonforce. (Acoustic Version.)
Pumyra being dead all along? Was this episode directed by M. Night Syalaman?
Haha, nice one!
(He would have done MUCH worse though, considering the last thing he did involving cartoons didn’t end up too well)
Also, does this mean Lion-O’s into necrophilia?
Well, he didn’t know she was dead.
