For me that would be if they put the romance stuff on the back-burner now and focus on the plot. An action-packed three episode arc to round out the season would be great.

Anyways, I finally got to see this episode. It was great all in all. I loved that llittle throw back to the OS where Lion-O does that infamous back-flip…I went all giggdy seeing that

Is it just me or is Mumm-Ra a lot of bark and very little bite.
It’s just you. Every time he fights the cats directly they get pretty beat up.
Ok Ok bad applioncan of thought his army only works with 3-1 number in there faver and that doesn’t work all the time.

Now this was a really entertaining episode and definitely in the vein of the original series; Lion-O doing the backflip and his pose from the OS intro, Tygra getting high on a love potion, Pumyra’s swollen face and Mumm-Ra disguising himself to try and destroy the cats. I liked the potions doctor Ponzi and his larvae assistant/wagon puller Lucy, how they got involved in the plot and the Mothra vs. Godzilla-esque fight between the butterfly Lucy and Mumm-Ra’s giant dinosaur was pretty cool (and a nice reference).
The only thing I didn’t really like was the animation inconsistency; the animators couldn’t decide if Pumyra should have a swollen face or not so it kept alternating between swollen and non-swollen until finally settling for the non-swollen version and no comment like “good thing you got rid of the swollen look” was made by any of the characters afterwards.
Pretty good episode. While it didn’t advance the plot much, Mumm-Ra as a dinosaur was pretty cool and funny, and I hope we see Ponze again.

Sorry for my late reply on this interesting topic Tygra_Rules.
The contradiction is that Tygra was annointed by Lion-O as the second in Command just in case something went wrong. I believe the majority would expect Panthro for this position as a prominent Tcat member who througout the 130 eps was overshadowing Tygra in many occasions.Still, Lion-O picked Tygra to take his place as Lord of the Thundercats in case something happened to him, and that was mentioned in 2 different episodes in the series.
let me go through your points:
- In Silky’s case if you watch it carefully you’ll notice that Tygra reacts to the froot that Silky is about to offer him, right off the bat, as if he is a drug addict who can’t say no and needs the substance in order to avoid the withdrawal symptom. Besides Silky prior to giving him the froot to taste it, didn’t give him anything else to confuse him and catch him off guard or tried to persuade him in any other way. Tygra the moment he saw the fruit wanted it w/o fighting against it. Also this whole ‘‘flying/tripping’’ scene and asking silky in despair for more in a hallucinatory state was clear reference to drag addiction. If we suppose that Silky had used narcotics to the corridors of the tunel so as to force Tygra into coming to her hypnotized, is wrong because the rest of the team would be affected as well when they came looking for him there.
2)As for Lion-O, of course i can see him depicted humiliated,we’ve seen even worse things. In ‘‘Psych out’’ Alluro using the Egora talisman to break Lion-O’s confidence and made him feel hopeless going as far as kneeling in front Alluro and accepting his defeat!Also, in ‘Well of Doubt’’ Lion-O drinks and feels the
effects of the water Baron Tass and Mr. Grubber gave him and as a result feels the effects, becomes very doubtful of his own abilities and crashes the Whisker Vehicle. Additionally in ‘Mad Bubbler’ we see the Cats fighting ferociously among themselves!! So yes, the writers had no restraints then…To make matters worse, and justify my theory about ‘‘the evil side’’ Tygra features, Jaga says to Lion-O in the same ep. that ‘‘in all of us there is the capacity of good and for evil…it is a choice…if you go in you will be compelled to do evil…only snarfs are devoid of this sentiment’’
Now, in ‘‘Turmagar the Taska’’ Tygra even when he was far away inside the Thundertank the camera zooms in to his eyes and we observe him having the exact same inebriated look on his face, as in ‘‘Gardens of Delight’’,he becomes intoxicatedand, carried away by the witche’s strange song.There is no mentioning that Turmagar or women can’t be susceptible. And at the scene were also Lion-O and Cheetara, Lion-O was 100% sober and not influenced at all, on top of that he saved Tygra when the mermaid kept him on a string.
3)In Crystal Canyon we have the ‘‘worst’’ example of Tygra’s addiction displaying the ‘evil side’ of his persona. Not only did it last longer but went to the point of him clearly backtalking to the team, uttering unbelievable words for a Tcat member,like ‘‘For the first time in my life i feel i can do anything’’ or ‘‘Ever since i as a kid i was shy’’, ‘‘Thundercast are jealous…’’.Right after the Thunderstrike crashed, Lion-O was knocked unconscious and LYnx-O was heavily wounded at the leg.The keystone’s power healed Lion-o and Lynx-o comletely and restored the damaged Thunderstike. Since Tygra used the Keystone on Lion-O and Lynx-o to cure them, specifically he pased it along Lion-o and Lynx-o holded it with his bare hands,Lion-O throw it away in the next scene, he holded it too. Still the side effects took its toll only on Tygra. He didn’t try to resist it neither put an effort to keep it away, actually he relished every part being a slave to its energy.
Finally, i would like to stress that i am not against this ‘‘evil representation’’, i think it adds many interesting elements to an enygmatic character.Actually i loved it. The NS Tygra has some points of the old Tygra. Wilykat appeared to have some ‘‘bad feelings’’ for Tcats too in a few moments, mostly when they left him and his sister behind and treated them as less important members of the team, however it was shown in a much lighter way than in Tygra’s case.
Thanks for replying, Lordore, doesn’t matter if it was late ;). I love discussing this aspect of Tygra as well, as I also think it made him interesting. And I agree with you in almost everything about the addictive personality, I just disagree in that making him weak, as I see addiction somehow as a sickness.

From all the “junk Tygra” eps, “Turmagar the Tuska” was the one that made me feel the worse (sadder) for Tygra. His friends didn’t even notice he left their side! So tehy should have been mesmerized themselves at some level to not notice one of them getting a separated way. I mean, he was standing just next to Lion-o. So I think the mermaid’s song affected Lion-o somehow, just not as deep as Tygra.[/li][li]“Crystal Canyon” I can’t argue lol.[/li][/ol]
I just say that aspect of him didn’t make Tygra weak, least of all evil as you pointed out. But it’s interesting to notice that in those eps, Tygra showed what might be the major sign of despair and submission: he knelt (to Silky, to the vampire-mermaid -although there he wasn’t in an addictisve state but under an hypnotic trance- and to Alluro with the keystone); seeing him down on his knees on those moments really broke my heart, especially because no other TC showed it ever, unless they were under a spell of some sort.
And I also said that Tygra was the writers’ designated victim for this eps because it would have been out of character, or they could have got themselves in trouble, having another character.
Panthro would have been put of character, Lion-o was the Lord and was supposed to be strong-willed, Cheetara was the female and as I said the 80’s was a strong-feminism era, and the twins ere kids. So it just left Tygra for them. I know he was the perfect character for that in the end though, being him all about control. But I really hated that they didn’t explore that weakness a little bit more or addressed it directly. They could have made an ep where Tygra feared he would screw it again and felt ashamed of his problem (they could even have made mentions to all those eps), then the others encourage him, and by the end he finally got over his addiciton issues (somethingh like they did with Cheetara and the lack of selfconfidence about her sixth sense, in “Telepathy Beam” she finally got to control it).
It’s always a pleasure to discuss with you Tygra Rules, Tygra’s frail character in these episodes. I think what the writers did with Tygra was though provoking and made him even more interesting. My only gripe is not showing more of his mind powers, we got a glimpse only in the trial episode.

There is one more time Lion-o mentioned it in the 130 eps. I rack my brains to remember it, but i am 100% sure because i had written many posts some time ago about Tygra and had commented on these two occasions where Lion-O appointed him as the second in Command. He either said it clearly as in ‘‘All that Glitters’’ or like ‘‘You will preside over the councils if something happens to me’’. I think it was at the Trials or at another 5-parter. But take my word it was mentioned again. I will let you know, when it comes to me.

I do remember Tygra himself saying that Jaga (not Lion-o) made him Head of the TC Counsil. But head of counsil does not necessarily mean second in command, so it might be another ep.
About “All that Glitters”, I’m 100% sure the TCs didn’t go down the tunnels looking for him. Actually, we saw Tygra in the tunnels, then next scene is Pantrho with Wilykat in the Thundertank when another rumble happened, the Thundertank turned over (Pantrho asked Wilykat how did he feel and Wilykat replied “with my fingers” lol), and Tygra appeared next to them, Pantrho asked him something and Tygra replied an incoherence. I remember it perfectly.
And I do think that just like Tygra, the others were mesmerized by the siren as well, only not so deep.
I’m not sure if calling Tygra’s trait frail. As I saw it, it was always a thing of control vs non-control with him. I’m not sure if the writers and producers meant it that way though. But I do think they didn’t explore that side of Tygra more -which was a shame and a pity- because it would have turned out to be too obscure for kids, but I’d have loved to see some more of it.
