It’s important for the artists and especially the animators..to be fully aware of the anatomy of the cats underneath the clothes..They put them in natural poses of them doing whatever..just to get the feel for their movement and body types..it helps a lot in getting the character right when writing,drawing,animating …especially with character designs this complex..the animators need to know them from top to toe in order to keep them consistent in production.

After coming off of last week’s “Native Son,” this one didn’t feel quite as strong. But we did get some valuable insight into the twins’ backstory. And while the OS did have the occasional ep that spotlighted the twins (i.e. “Tower of Traps,” “The Test of Cunning”), they rarely, if ever, delved into just who they were and where they came from…though that could be said for a lot of the OS characters.
But as with “Native Son,” we got a good info-dump. We learn they grew up on a farm and had two other, younger siblings. That they lost their father in a cyclone (I’m sorry, but whenever I see a tornado, I can’t help but hear that music from The Wizard of Oz playing in my head!), and that they ran away from home seeking that legendary city of El Dara. They had to learn to become thieves to survive. Though it’s unknown just how long they had been living like that before the events of the first episode.
It’s reasonable to assume their mother and siblings are still alive, as they lived well outside of Thundera’s city limits. Though I think it wouldn’t be unreasonable to assume they could have been captured by a Reptilian raiding party and are being kept as prisoners/slave labor somewhere.
I could kind of see the reveal about the two animals that were being hunted being the parents of a family of their own coming a mile away, but it tied in nicely with the theme of the kittens not having a family of their own and missing it. J.M. DeMatteis is a well-respected writer (most notably for his run on the Justice League International comic), and all around, it was a pretty decent script; coming close to “Song of the Petalars” in terms of poignancy.
Good stuff. Though like many, I’m awaiting the introduction of Pumyra in “The Pit” next week.
Really? Because when I saw that scene, the movie Twister popped into my head because of the father getting sucked in while the rest of the fmaily is spared. Incidentally, I think the family also lived on a farm.
I predicted the fathers death a mile away..especially after his speech about how hard he worked for the harvest etc etc…just never expected it to be a twister that did him in LOL!!
My mom used a wooden paddle on me and my siblings when we were younger. Physical punishment like spankings don’t really work when the child is older than 10 really. After that point you pretty much want to punish them with psychological punishments than anything else.
My parents pretty much held back on my allowance and grounded me for normal small stuff. When we were grounded, they made us copy pages from the dictionary and if we messed up we had to redo the whole page again.
When we were in our teens, they would threaten to have us quit our part time jobs, take away our driver’s license and keys, and ground us. They also told us if we ended up getting arrested as teenagers they wouldn’t bail us out of jail and had no problems letting us stay in Juvie if it went that far.
Anyways, onto the episode. I felt it was pretty good for a mostly filler episode. One thing I can say about this series is that at least the fillers are good and aren’t completely fillers. They all serve some sort of purpose and develop the characters in some fashion or show us their backstory.
Also the second Wizard of Oz reference. Tygra floated down into Thundera (Read Emerald) city and was proclaimed Prince (or Oz) delux (until Lion-o came along).
I was a bit surprised that nobody, absolutely nobody took care or helped the twins in Thundera. The kids had no other choice than to steal.

No they were not a friendly place at all. But remember this was a kingdom on the decline(moral wise) so it shouldn’t be surprised that it was corupt and dangerous. The people of the upperclass had it good and the rest had the crap. Just think how bad it was for the other races if the cats had the best lands, most money, etc.
HA HA HA HA! Well, you have to understand back then I went to Catholic school and when you didn’t do your homework, you got a demerit for each assignment and when you got three demerits, you got detention. The Catholic school I went to gave a lot of homework everyday, you had an assignment for each subject. I hated doing homework, especially in the fifth grade. In the fifth grade I got detention almost daily. That is what got me into trouble…that and picking on my little sister. She was such a tattle-tail and such a whinny spoiled brat that she would do this high-pitched scream. “MOM! SUSIE THREW MY DOLL IN THE POOL AND NOW IT’S MUDDY!” My older sister would pick on her too but never got caught. I always got caught
After buzzing with excitement from native son, this weeks episode was pretty much a big anti-climax for me. It’s not that I was expecting big things, and I appreciate tht there will be filler episodes along the way…but if were rating episodes as they come, this was very sub-standard IMO.
Thankfully we got a bit of back story, however as has been pointed out, a few gaps still left in there.
P.S I may be in the minority but I really don’t think permanently introducing Pumyra to the group at this point would be wise, maybe more of a cameo or 1 episoder and then her go off by herself for the time being.
They were in the slums. Sometimes in neighborhoods like that you have to fend for yourself. Especially if there is a lot of begging already. You can’t help everyone without screwing yourself. Don’t forget the people they were trying to beg from were most likely poor too.
Although the whole “Kittens being hunted” part of the story was kind of a let-down, I was still very happy to see a story that focused so much attention on them. I think we need more episodes like this one…just better..
You may think me sadistic, but part of me was hoping they’d have the kittens discover that the predator-monster had cubs of its own, so they’d see that the whole “predator-prey” thing isn’t as black and white as it tends to be viewed. OTOH, I understand that’s not what the writers wanted this story to be about.
I’m so close to singing selections from Les Miserables right now…
