I know it’s a bit ambitious to be talking about ThunderCast episode 4 when we’ve yet to record (or even set a date to record) episode 3 - but, I seem to remember that there was talk of making episode 4 comics-themed and hosted by me (as if me hosting episode 2 wasn’t bad enough for everyone, LOL!). I wanted to give you guys a heads-up that I’ve recently been speaking with our good friend Tim Perkins, the UK ThunderCats comic artist who inspired our Original Comic Art Gallery, and he says that he would be willing to be our special guest on that episode!

Chris,Chris,Chris you never cease to amaze me. Goodness Chris you got more goodies in your bag than i can count. That is some superb news, Im sure everyone will be exited to hear from Tim Perkins. If Episode 3 cannot be recorded before 4 then by all means do it. We can always release it after the 3rd episode. 2 thumbs up Chris!!!
Guys I’m attending a comic book convention in August here in Toronto where Ed Benes is going to be attending. I’m hoping to meet up with him to get two things done:
A quick audio interview with Ed Benes on how he came to work on the ThunderCats comics, and some bits and bites about the show, the characters… will ask him about any engagement he’s had on the movie etc.
Will be arranging a commissioned piece of Lion-O with the CatsLair in the background that I’m going to see if James will print in a future cereal:geek issue.
So depending on timing, and assuming that I’m successful in getting some time with Ed, I’m wondering if there would be a way to build this mini interview into the podcast?
Okay great, there are a total of four artists attending this con who have worked on ThunderCats, so I’ll try to get some quick clips with each of them.
Mark, I can’t speak for the others, but I can officially say that I’d be on that like cheese on a pizza!! For myself I’d love us to feature anything you’re able to get your hands on, you could be ThunderCast’s own roving reporter!
On a personal note, I’d also like the folks who worked on the DC/Wildstorm ThunderCats comics to know that there are people out there who want to hear from them, respect (at least most of) the creative decisions they made and are interested in hearing their side of things in regard to those decisions. I’ve attempted to contact several of the creators of the DC/Wildstorm series for interviews to host in TCL’s Comic Section, and all of them have met with complete silence. I can understand why - Angie has told me that some of these folks received very hostile treatment when trying to interact with ThunderCats fans on message boards and suchlike, and I believe she even told me that one (possibly Ford Lytle Gilmore) actually received death threats! Needless to say, that’s unacceptable, and I fear it may have tainted ThunderFandom in the eyes of those folks…
Mark: Re: the Ed Benes commission piece, once it’s appeared in cereal:geek, would you be willing to allow the piece to be displayed in our Original Comic Art Gallery? I would, it goes without saying, credit you as the owner and happily mention the cereal:geek connection as being where the piece was published. Please can you LMK what you think? Many thanks!
Yep. Gilmore reached out to the fandom and got harrassed and treated like crap as thanks. I mean, I can see if people didn’t care for his work but come on - that got ridiculous. I stayed in touch with him for a while, but frankly I do think he at least wants to put tcats in the past. And I can’t really blame him.
Although I must say, I did have a go at the artist that did HHR but I gotta say - he started it! Seriously. heh heh, fun times in the fandom back then.

But all this talk of guests gave me an idear. Anyone consider asking Larry Kenney to be on a podcast? I know he’s done audio interviews for other sites before, and of course text chats at my site in the past, so I bet he’d agree to do a podcast here. Thoughts?
Me neither - I think that’s a real shame, and actually (with no disrespect meant to yourself, Angie, because you & I are of the same mind on this) I’m actually embarrassed on behalf of the TCats community that someone involved with the property bothered to try and interact with the grassroots fanbase and got treated in that way. Not that I’m a huge Gilmore fan (I loved his work on Reclaiming Thundera and hated it on The Return), but nevertheless…
I think this is an excellent idea, which is why I actually e-mailed Larry myself about 45 minutes ago - you and I must be telepathically linked! It would be awesome if Larry was up for being interviewed as part of a future episode, maybe we could launch it to tie in with this site’s 2nd anniversary in December or something like that?
Also, does anyone know if it’s technically possible to record a telephone conversation with someone conducted via Skype, in the same way as we record the podcast currently? I say this because I don’t know if Larry has Skype, and I’d hate to have to ask him to download a piece of software and buy a headset especially to do us a favour by being interviewed! Please can you guys LMK what you think? Many thanks!

Please please please lets do this ASAP, we want to keep things hot and the only way to do this is if we get on this with the quickness. I believe that you can make a phonecall via Skype and record the conversation at the same time although i may be mistaken. Is it possible for some of the more experienced folks with Skype check into this.
On a side note i have contacted Andrew McCabe to be a special guest on our toys podcast. Im currently awaiting for an answer but we may have to accomodate his time schedule since he is pretty busy
I concur with your sentiments, my friend! I have to say I’d be very surprised if Larry changed his mind, but nonetheless I agree that we should strike whilst the iron’s hot!
I replied to Larry’s e-mail, and this is the response:
Isn’t Larry the coolest guy?! Can you guys LMK how those times work out from your (and our) perspective, and also translate those into the other timezones we use, particularly UK time? However, I have to say that if it comes down to it, I for one will happily get up in the middle of the night to take part - talking verbally to Larry has always been one of my longest-standing ambitions, I have a feeling it will be a surreal experience!!
That is amazing! I do believe you can record a conversation with someone from a landline using Skype. That’s how Jon did it with Jack Olesker I think. However it would mean buying Skype credit to make the phone call to Larry. I doubt it would cost that much for say an hour to an hour and half. Certainly worth the cost, whatever it is! lol
As for the times, that would be
Weekdays (8pm eastern) = 1am UK time (which by the way works absolutely perfect for me so long as it’s the weekday I don’t have to get up early)
It may also possibly be cheaper if one of the folks based in the US were the ones to make the call - i.e., so that it’s a domestic call rather than an international call. Or does Skype not work that way? I’ve never actually telephoned someone using Skype and so consequently I have no idea, LOL!
Yeah, both of those times would be viable for me as they’re evenings rather than mornings! The weekend timings would probably be the most ideal for me personally, but whatever works best for the overall team I can go along with!
BTW - I personally have never had the proper time or resources to pursue this, but I have a friend who I would consider to be reasonably trustworthy who claims to have tracked down Earl Hyman (the voice of Panthro) and spoken to him on the phone - apparently Earl is in the yellow pages! Apparently Earl didn’t mind being contacted by my friend at all, although my friend claims to have subsequently mislaid Earl’s phone number which is why he never did an audio interview with him. shrugs Make of it what you will, although my friend did provide a contact number for the agency that Earl is registered with - it’s rather costly for me to pursue, but if someone in the US wants to chance their arm and see if they can get hold of Earl and enquire whether he’d be willing to take part in an episode of ThunderCast, I’d be happy to pass on the info I have!
I’d be willing to chip in for a headset for Larry if that’s necessary, in fact if its under 50 bucks for one I’ll buy the whole things. And a skype download takes all of 2 minutes I’m sure Larry wouldn’t mind.
That’s really generous of you Mark, nice one! The only reason why I mention about Larry downloading Skype is because I seem to remember Celesta telling me that Larry’s not always very good with computers and suchlike, or words to that effect - so, I wonder whether Larry may struggle with using it…? Larry will be celebrating his 60th birthday next month, so I can kind-of understand why he would be that way with computers, LOL!
Anyways, if you guys let me know what you think about the technical side of recording the interview, I’ll happily forward any questions or suggestions to Larry - I hope this is OK.
Hey gang, first of all can I say I hope no one minds me stickying this thread! I was just wondering, now that episode 3 is online, whether it might be a good idea to start thinking about ThunderCast episode 4 and onwards given that we’ve got a load of stuff in the pipeline?
I know that episode 4 is due to be centered on the DVD release (and in particular the UK release) of ThunderCats S1V2, which is cool by me as I should shortly be picking up my copy! However, as you guys know we’ve got two special guests lined up for both the Comics-based edition (Tim Perkins) and Larry Kenney’s episode, and so I was wondering whether, at the same time as episode 4, we might be able to start to think about these as well?
The great thing here is that we have actually got the next three episodes all planned out, so, lots of exciting stuff happening! Please can you guys LMK what you think?
