ThunderCast Episode 3 Recording

Ok I figured since we got Episode 2 out of the way that we should concentrate now for Episode 3 which should be Toy related. Im sure there’s lots of people that are waiting for the toys episode. I realize that toys is not everybody’s cup of tea here on the team but I would like it if there will be other people than me and Neil ( and possibly Matt?).

We can provide insight as to the toys but its also good to get feedback and childhood stories from people outside the toys section if you know what i mean. I also have another idea in mind and that is to have a giveaway for the 3rd podcast. The card is a little beat up but hey it's a freebie right? We can get people to listen and tune in to the podcast and answer 5 questions. The answers will be within the podcast itself.

We can use that to boost membership in the forums and to get more people aware of our forums and the site. My idea would be to post the questions in the members only section hence making people to sign up to the forums.

Ok here is an idea of what the next podcast could include

*Intro- Host and other guests/team members appearing in podcast. Collections of team members/time collecting etc.

*Brief LJN history/ interesting facts about LJN and ThunderCats toys

*Unproduced toys- Rumors on existing toys and sale of unproduced toys, etc.

*Action Figure reviews- Likes/dislikes, best battlematic action, other important facts.

*Childhood stories about toys

*Grading

*Thundercats toys and Ebay

Thats all that comes to mind right now, please post here if you have any other ideas.

Chris here…

I definitely agree that ThunderCast episode 3 should be toy-related - the Toy Section is, after all, probably the most comprehensive and certainly the most complete section of this site, so I think it’s only right and proper!

As I’ve stated to Neil in the past, my toy-based knowledge is quite limited, so I don’t know that I’d have a lot to offer beyond very personalised stuff - for example that my very first action figure from any toyline was Lion-O, that type of thing. In light of that, I’d definitely understand if you guys wanted to leave me out of this podcast (particularly in light of my heavy involvement in episodes 1 & 2) - however, if you guys were happy for me to take part I’d certainly be willing to contribute!

Take care…

Chris…I think that even though toy knowledge may be limited for some however I think that something like Action Figure reviews should be able to be done by anyone that has played with the toys. I think that we can get everyone involved one way or another and not just by a few sentences here and there.

Cool episode plan Manny! Hopefully we can look into doing this recording soon. Not sure when I will be able to get on though at the minute, although saturdays will probably be the best for me.

Not sure about this saturday though yet…

Also are you hosting this one Manny? or did you want me to do it?

I’ll let you host it. Im happy to co-host

Chris here…

Hey guys, just wondering if there’s any more word on this, with regards to recording dates, times, etc.? Like I say I haven’t got a lot of toy knowledge, but if Neil & MannyC (and Matt? I can’t remember if he’s able to take part or not) want to shoot for recording this and need someone to make up the numbers, I’m sure I can chime in with my childhood memories, tidbits of information and suchlike!

I think we’ve built up a lot of momentum with the podcasts and so would love to see us keep moving the project forward - don’t forget that we’ve got a comics-based one with Tim Perkins as our guest, the Larry Kenney interview one, and also an “analysing S1V2” (tying in with the UK release of same) all in the pipeline, so with the toy-based podcast as well we’re actually sorted for the next four episodes!

Take care…

I’ll be more than happy to do something within the next 2 weeks. We can have some sort of mini update with the podcast, a giveaway of some sorts and whatever else we can do. Neil, you can throw a date out there. Im sure I’ll make it

At this moment in time I am extremely busy so can’t make it this week or probably even next :frowning: This has been the most weirdest week for me so far! lol

Hopefully we can try and get it recorded before the new UK DVD set is released though.

As for other episodes, there is no reason they can’t be recorded out of order.

Hey, guys. A toy podcast is a great idea and I’m sure you’ll have a good audience for such a thing. That said, I’m sitting this one out. All I could contribute is a bunch of shrugging (I really don’t have any specific memories of the toys I do have left from childhood - that was too many years and beers ago, my friends - and to be honest, toys and collecting them have been an area of fandom I’ve always had less than zero interest in) and well, you can’t see that on a podcast

Good luck, and hopefully I can contribute to one of these someday!

Chris here…

Hey Angie, to be brutally honest I think several of us here feel the same thing with regards to the toys - we have three definitive experts on the toyline here, and then the rest of us tend to have a more casual interest in the toys, which is to say we owned them and played with them as an extension of our love for the cartoon series. That said, like yourself, I definitely think that a toy-based podcast would be a good idea, not least of all because of how “toy-centric” this site has been, and of course because of the extensive knowledge possessed by Neil, MannyC and Matt!

On the subject of you contributing - I’m sure I speak for all the team when I say that I’d definitely love you to be involved in one of these, and I think you could make a significant contribution to any of the other ones I mentioned in my post above (i.e., the comics, Larry Kenney, and S1V2). Do any of those take your fancy?

Take care…

Thanks, Chris.

It’s cool that this site covers the toyline so well. Toy info was one chronic subject that would come up in fan emails to my site over the years, and as much as I’d have liked to deliver it to them, I just never had the knowlege and motivation to do it ‘right’ and completely in that area. So definitely TCL has done a great job of providing something long-lacking in the Tcats fandom community.

As to future podcasts, those mentioned sound like things I’d be able to contribute a thought or two to, as long as the timing is right! I will say, I’m rather shy in person and on the phone so don’t be shocked if it takes me a few rounds to get comfortable.
When I did meet Larry in person, I might have said two words to him - hi and bye. My hubby talked to him more and he’s not even a fan >.<

Sorry for telling everyone last minute, but I’m available anytime during this upcoming week (unless I end up going to a baseball game) to help record any of the upcoming podcasts (toys or not)…just give me a heads up on the day and time.

It’d be cool if we can record both episodes sometime this week so we don’t have to worry about the next one!

Yeah I’d meant to post a message about this earlier

Guess we should think about sorting ep 3 out asap!

I’m open to any time during the weekend

Chris here…

At the present time I’m about on Saturday but probably not on Sunday - I’m good for pretty much any time on Saturday provided the recording session finishes no later than 2:00am UK time (i.e., 2:00am on Sunday morning! ), as I’ve got to be up early-ish on Sunday morning. :frowning:

Be great to get this one in the bag, if I can say without offending it seems to have hung about for a while - let’s keep this project motoring!

Take care…

Your time is good for me…what is it on ET.

Weekends and evenings are just no good for me lately. Sorry :frowning:

Il be there whenever, but lets not be late like we usually are.. 2AM is a pain for me as I can’t speak at my normal voice level due to family sleeping.

Chris here…

I definitely agree with you that the earlier the better for me too, not least of all because after doing a podcast recording it takes me a couple of hours to “wind down” afterwards and so if we’re recording till 2:00am it means I don’t get to sleep before 4:00am, which messes up the next day. That said, I have to acknowledge that Neil has the opposite problem to you, Kyle my friend, in that I believe he has to wait until his family have gone to bed for him to be able to take part in something like a podcast without being interrupted, so, stuff like this will always be tricky to pull off!

Does anybody have any suggestions re: times on Saturday (or indeed another date if Saturday’s not suitable)? Without wanting to be in any way negative or cause offence, I feel that until we get this next episode out the way the podcast project (which has, until now, motored along at a productive pace) won’t move forward. I definitely think that a Toys-based podcast is the right one for episode 3, and so I think we should try and get this one done and out to our adoring public!

Take care…

Can try to make it this saturday I guess… I don’t think this podcast will be too long, so hopefully we won’t be any longer than an hour or so…

I just wish I could have my PC in my bedroom, that way I could record any time of day. Unfortunately I limited because my pc is in the living room and if I start shouting down a mic my family wouldn’t be very happy (especially if they are watching TV)

So would 12 midnight work for folks? I know it isn’t ideal, but the best I can do right now.
