I’m sure this was brought up somewhere else but I wasn’t able to find mention of it anywhere recently, so I wanted to get other opinions. I was re-watching the first season when I noticed that all of the Thundercats are orphans…
Wilykit :wilykit: & Wilykat :wilykat: - clearly orphans, no parents and seem to have no one
Cheetara :cheetara: - when Jaga asked her clan she replied she had no clan and had no one.
Tygra:tygra: - adopted by King Claudus, and if Tygus is his father he was seemingly out of the picture for whatever reason it maybe.
Lion-O :liono & Tygra :tygra: - Claudus was killed leaving them fatherless since there has been no mention of mothers.
Panthro :panthro: - would be the only wildcard. There has been no mention to family but seems as though he would have been a military man type. and only mention at all to anything was when he said that it took him finding the right partners to find the book of omens.
So now this may all mean nothing or maybe it is supposed to create a stronger bond amongst all of them, making them more like family. I don’t know. What are your thoughts and opinions on this?? if any…
Thats right. Tygus was too far back. The timeline slipped my mind since its still kinda up in the air as to the actual time frame we are working with. That is true Lion-O isn’t quite and orphan but is still left with no mother or father. At least he still has his brother, even though he is not blood related. Its a strange coincidence. There must be something to it that we will see somewhere down the line.
I thought it was interesting that it appeared the twins found in the Tcats what Cheetara and Tygra found in the Clerics and the royal family respectively. A second chance at a family.
Ive got more speculation about it, but I really want to find more out more about Tygra’s and Cheetara’s origins before I go to far.
I’m assuming Tygra came into the royal family at a very young age. For some reason I dont think he has any memories of his birth parents. Just a gut feeling. Same for Cheetara. Though I find it strange that she would be living as a street kid. None of the “alley cats” seemed to belong to any particular race of feline. For the most part they all looked like domestic cats. I assumed this meant the more obvious looking cats were higher class. So how did she end up fending for herself?
Like I said, just speculation.
Forgive me, but I do not consider Lion-O to be an orphan. True he’s young, but for the most part he was given the opportunity to know where and who he came from. He has fond memories of his father and knows what kind of man he was. I dont mean to upset anyone, I just dont see it as the same sort of loss. Not like the twins or Cheetara, who were very young when they lost their parents. I wont comment on his mother because well,..yeah.
true Lion-O may not be considered an orphan but the argument can be made that it maybe harder for him considering he had a father who he loved and then he watched be killed and die right in front of his eyes. Similar to the, better to have loved and lost than to have never have loved at all theory. So what would be worse to never have the parents or to watch the only one that you have be killed ???
He may not technically be considered an orphan but he would share the same feelings of being lost and alone and anger
Agree about Lion-O not really being an orphan. And I doubt Panthro was either.
Tygra is technically an orphan, but He was raised with Lion-O and they think of each other, for all intents and purposes, as brothers and Tygra thought of Claudus as his father.
For example while in the astral plane when Lion-O and Tygra were fighting it would’ve been extremely easy for Lion-O to say something like, “You’re not even my real brother!” But it didn’t even occur to him to say that.
I don’t see Lion-O ever pulling the “not even my brother card”, but I can see Tygra possibly using it at some point. I agree that while in the astral plane would have been the time to say it but i can still see it happening. Possibly while running into another Tiger Clan on Third Earth and them not being fully trusted, but Tygra quick to be on there side. Maybe even Bengali. Doubt this would happen but it would be a interesting road to go down. Especially since the show does try to give a lesson for every show. And in this day and age where it is quite common for kids to have a step brother or sister growing up, I can easily see it be written in to help relate with the young fan base.
I dont think its unbelievable that Lion-O would say something like that. When you feel hurt by someone, naturally you want them to hurt as well. It doesn’t mean he really feels that way.
Some people have suggested that Bengali be somehow related to Tygra. I could see how this would make both Lion-O and Tygra feel threatened. This could bring the, " not biologically related" thing to its head. That or just another heated arguement between brothers. Assuming they choose to explore Tygra’s feelings about being adopted. With the whole crown thing its seems like they would want to, but its not necessary.
Lion-o has said plenty of hurtful things to Tygra as well, like “when I grow up, I don’twant to be like you”, “and that’s why she (Cheetara) will pick me”, “you’ve been jealousof me all your life”, “you have always wanted what I have”, etc.
As a matter of fact, I’ve seen Tygra being more encouraging to Lion-o than the other way round. Remember “Song of the Petalars” (“Father would have been proud of you”) or “The Forest of Magi Oar” (“The important thing is that you believe in yourself”) and some others. They might not have been a lot, but they were at least a few while I’ve see zero from Lion-o.
