Thunder Lynx System..Yay or Nay?

What sets Bandai’s new 4" line from all their other 4" toy lines. A little magnet inserted into the back of all 4" figures that’s supposed to unlock little quirks when the figures interact with specific vehicles and/or playsets.

But is it really special? In my opinion it’s a great concept. And I admit have not bought yet any of the vehicles or playsets that allow for the functions to activate, but atleast from videos I’ve seen…to me it isn’t special.

Grab Wilykit, put her on the ThunderTank and the sound that comes out is the same as if you put Mumm-Ra or Tygra. If that’s the way it goes, then I bet using any run of the mill magnet gives you the same result. Again..a great concep, but not such a great excecution.

Being someone who loves to tamper with their toys, I found the inclusion of the magnet to be an obstacle in taking apart a 4" figure. Such an obstacle that since I don’t know how it’s integrated I’m afraid to put to much force and break the figure in the process.

So, do you like the Thunder Lynx system? If so, why? We all have our opinions on it, good or bad. Why not share them!

meh shrugs I’m not overly thrilled with gimmicks like this. I’d rather have a toy without the bumps in their backs than a magnet feature. Especially with Cheetara as the bump doesn’t go well with her hair.

The toys are for kids.. Not us lot, so in a kids view.. Yes, they will be awesome!!!

Havent seen any off them yet.. UKer, lol…

Yeah, In all honestly the 6" line is more my style anyway. I hate tiny figures. I just hope they put out the rest of the characters for us in the 6" line.

I like the concept, but I agree that it’s been hit or miss on the execution so far.

I like how Grune’s mace and Mumm-Ra’s wings use the feature. I also like how the weapons on the vehicles don’t work unless a figure is in place. That’s a neat feature, I think.

The electronics bit has been the poor part, so far. Deluxe Lion-O is the biggest fail toy I’ve seen in a while. The ThunderTank would have been better with a generic tank sound, rather than a voice clip.

I think I would have liked the ThunderLynx gimmick even more as a little kid. Hopefully, they can come up with better uses for it.

Do I like the concept? Yes, i think its a great idea to get more play out of your toys. How cool is it to attach Panthero to the tank and get more effects??

Was is executed correctly??

This is where it fails. Lets break it down:

  1. When used with something with the voice, every figure sounds the same. Sadly this could of been changed. Maybe it would made the toys cost a lil more, BUT it would of been worth the price. It would be so much better to have Pantero’s voice when he is driving the tank instead of lion-o generic voice.

  2. Design. I think they could of came up with a better way to install that magnet then that stupid box. I for one think it just takes away from the overall appeal of the figure. They should of just embedded it into the toy itself and when the magnets align everything works.

I dunno, there just seems like there could of been ways to do this differently but the concept is a great idea. Kinda like how the glowing eyes of the original line was a great idea. Let see if they fix this in future updates..

I think it’s a neat idea that adds more play value to the toys. Yes, it would have been cool if they chipped the figures, like the first series 2002 MOTU figures, so the playsets and vehicles could recognize individual figures but that would have really added to the cost.

The magnets are cheaper and simpler and guarentees every figure will work with every playset and vehicle. From what I remember reading the chips were removed from the 2002 MOTU figures to cut costs and kids were often frustrated that they couldn’t always get the feature to work.
