I wasnt really too fond of them pirates. The addition of more characters to the storyline gave the show more to build on. More enemies for the Thundercats=more adventures. Cant help but to laugh at one of Hammerhand’s quotes: [SIZE=2]
“I’ll hammer ya inta the deck like a rusty nail, boy!”[/SIZE][SIZE=2]. So corny but yet a very funny quote!!![/SIZE]
I’m not too crazy about this episode because of the quality of the animation. It was rather shoddy. And this is the story where HammerHand was supposedly killed! The fact was reinforced in “Spitting Image”, when Mumm-Ra summoned the character’s ghost to animate Mumm-Ra’s clone of Panthro. But then HammerHand is brought back to life in “ThunderCats, Ho!” without any explanation as to how that happened; all of a sudden there he is with a new ship and crew. It put a dent in the writing staff’s credibility.
I do like the Unicorns and their Keepers, but I’m not a raving fan of theirs. :bengali:
I totally agree with catspat. I’ve always had the same question: "how DID Hammerhand come back in ‘Thundercats, ho!’ ? It’s always boggled my mind. I don’t mind this episode, though. I’ve always liked the Unicorns and their keepers.
For some reason I always liked Hammerhand in the Thundercats Ho! saga and like others, I’m not too fond of this episode.
However, like someone else said, I also like the characters of the Unicorns and their keepers so that part of the story is good. I think the Thundertank taking it’s first dip in the water is cool too! I also laughed at Snarf being called ‘a dog’ ‘pack animal’ and ‘a beast of burden’ LOL!
So from me it gets a 6/10. To be honest if an episode doesn’t have Mumm-Ra and the Mutants in them, they have to have a pretty damn good villian of the week to impress me.
As a side note, I agree about Hammerhand dying and then coming back to life in Ho! being silly, but then you can’t really blame this episode for that. If anyone is to blame it’s the writer of Thundercats Ho! part 1 for not explaining how he was resurrected
I rather liked this episode. The art excelled in certain scenes such as when Lion-o fought HammerHand in one on one combat. Also I love when Panthro tells Cheetara that the Thundertank is “user friendly”.
Funny though how in the cartoon HammerHands “Hammer Hand” is the left arm, while for the action figure they made it the right.:?
Fantastic to see a revival for this thread - I still plan to integrate some of these comments into our revised Episode Guide page for this episode, so feel free to keep them coming, the more the merrier!
this ep. never really caught hold of me like a lot of the others. not sure why. the story didn’t seem to gel well. i do remember the unicorns, but only because they were based of the unicorn designs of rankin/bass’s “the last unicorn.” i luuuuuuurrrrved that movie as a kid & was really surprised when i found out the folks that did that also did tcats.
So a bunch of Nordic sailors are harassessing some unicorns and their keepers, calling them individuals of questionable integraty is a huge understatement.
Thank you for doing that, Chris. This is a good idea, so please keep it up. I’ll be more than happy to review any episode of “ThunderCats” that you want. And it’s a given that other members of this site will do the same!:cheetaraveryhappy:
