ThunderCats failed because of a complete lack of a theme song. Most successful franchises have a very well developed, catchy (but subliminal) theme song—It is a key ingredient in driving the sales of merchandise, and increasing viewership. Recall the importance of an underlying theme song in the original ThunderCats, TMNT, Ghostbusters and Voltron. A lack of promotional materials by CN and counter-intuitive mismanagement by Bandai also did not serve to remedy the issue.
Note that a lot of CN shows don’t have intros. That’s 30 more seconds of ad time.
You know, you might be on to something!! Sure the episodes were absolutely awesome but the theme song is what made it known all over the world in the 80’s. Today’s cartoon formula is a little different so that would explain why sp many cartoons have a short shelf life .
I highly disagree with this thread, although a full theme would have been cool. To say it’s the reason the show failed is just ridiculous because most shows now don’t even get enough time to have a full theme song. And you have to look at Young Justice, A:TLA/TLOK, and so many other decent action shows that do not have a theme song and work fine without it.
It would have nice to had a theme song for this series even if it was just an extra on DVD.
It failed because they didnt have that little mark under thier eyes, quote me on that.
Johnny Test says hi. That’s what a 1 minute intro right there. And I don’t think this series even has toy sales at all. Just DVD’s now.
Adventure Time, even Adventure Time has a better intro. And I know there’s other cartoon network shows not named Ben 10 that have at least 30 second intros.

the show was good, but over here nothing was shown anywhere…
with a brand like that, should be marketed big…

Ok my theory then.. it failed because they didn’t do “thundercats hooo” with the red sign in the sky enough.
I think that not enough marketing after it first came out would be a stronger arguement. If there’s little interest generated, people won’t get curious and tune in :rolleyes:
I think an intro would’ve helped, but it’s hardly the reason the show failed. A big factor, IMO was that CN didn’t advertise it enough. Heck when it returned after the hiatus we didn’t even know it was returning until a week beforehand. Other shows tell you when they’re returning months beforehand.
I would’ve loved a theme, but still it would’ve been just as nice to create a sort of narration-esque opening, like Dan does in all the Bakugan series.
I think the reason why the show failed is that it took too much -if it ever got there- to show them as a team. Yes, the music theme would have helped because it’d havee gave the viewers an idea of a team, like an anthem, but it also failed in developing charatcers and letting the fans know them and embracing them. Even making their eyes glow at the TC signal, or getting the TC badges somehow would have helped.
It’s almost what’s happening with the New 52 JL series, it’s taking too much for the heroes to identify themselves as a team and work like it, and people isn’t liking it that much.
im glad somebody feels the same way about the new 52 JL series, because i had to drop the series. the justice league characters characterization seems so off when compared to their solo books.
Thundercats failed because Kids didnt buy the toys!
It doesnt matter if collectors bought them, children are by far the biggest consumer and they didnt buy them, that is down to one thing, marketing!
I don’t agree about the lacking of an intro on the show, though it would have been nice to see characters’ scenes not featured on the series along with the Thundercats theme song (something like that music from Lion-O facing Mum-Ra in Recipe for Disaster)
Still, even since I saw the premiere for the first time, I thought they would’ve not made an intro cause there’s no way to best the epicness the original intro was. At least that’s my opinion…about the toyline, I think they should have put more effort into the series itself before thinking about the toys, after all people have to pay for the toys but watching the show on tv (if you have cable) is free and if the show is good and exciting it’s supposed to lead people to buy the toys, don’t you think? I agree on little development of some characters (Cheetara the main example!).
If this whole canceled/hiatus thing gets ever resolves and Thundercats is redeemed to go on on tv with a second season the first thing they should do is work make justice to some characters, besides if there ever existes a season 2 they have huge things to work with from where the first one left off…how will the Mum-Ra/Pumyra think go on, I think, although I don’t like it, it would be cool to see Pumyra as a more competent general to Mum-Ra than Grune was (and I don’t mean it as putting Grune as useless) I just think, Pumyra controled by Mum-Ra -yeah I want to believe that- would serve him well for a while instead of what Grune did since he showed he would go as far as to betray his master to get the power he’s hungry for…all that and don’t get me started with the search for the last stone (how dare them to cancel the show not finishing that plot?!), Bengali’s introduction, some more villians and many other characters and animal species to help/or complicate, why not? the Thundercats journey!!
Thundercats 2012 Season 2, if there’s ever any have everything to be an awesome return for the show! (And maybe just in a miraculous way even get a third season, but that’s very incredulous of me) They just have to use it.
The animation and music has been flawless as I see it, I would put work on the story development now…

Sorry for taking the thread to another place, but I agree. Have you checked the New 52 Aquaman series? It’s great, the best one IMO.
There are many reasons the show has failed, from every aspect.
I won’t analyze again them but what I would blame most is the non-existent promotion and the mediocre toyline.
