Just sitting here thinking what the rarest MOC’s are in terms of actual numbers around.
I know the people love Bengali’s for the colour but surely there are more of them around than some others.
Anyone have any ideas(apart from the Laser Sabers)
Well in terms of what foreign or domestic set or indiviudal figs.
I think the cosmocats are the rarest
followed by boxed glasslites
then certain examples of the playfuls
Laser Saber figures hands down…if youre talking general Thundercats brand I’d have to say Cosmocats and Glasslite
I was wondering which ljn Lion-o is the rarest: The 8-backs red hair or the orange hair? i think the orange came first and it was the first Lion-o ever produced,most likely both Lion-o 8-back versions are considered even more collectible than the Battery offer ones .
Also, the 14-back series 2 LJN Lion-o is generally known as the Lion-o(orange or red hair)& snarf set but there was a stand alone 14-back Lion-o too,i guess it was produced in less quantities, which one do you think is more collector-valuable?
Lmao, good one Lio. The Thunderwings Lion O with light up eyes has got to be one of the rarest mocs out there. There is one on ebay right now and it is the only one in I have ever seen. Even more rare than the regular Thunderwings Lion O.
I say there are fewer red haired 8 back lion o out there than orange based on the fact I’ve owned five orange ones at different times but no red. I say rarest regular issue pieces are American carded stinger and driller and you don’t see many us mongor or safari joe as ones you wouldn’t expect.

I’d have to say i’d love a cats lair(boxed) as I think its got some brilliant art work.
On the regular MOC’s that are around I’d have to say that i dont see many grune’s or jaga’s around but thats my opinion.
Definately the Thunderwings Lion-o and Luna Lasher Mumm-Ra 
if were going figure id say the laser saber figs
and if were including minis Felina moc
I’ve been watching the Thundercats action figures market over the last 6-7 years and it is amazing indeed how the price increase has steadily gone sky-high. Back in 2005 when this forum was first introduced i remember some collectors,most likely the first ones, were describing the abundance as well as the reasonable costs throughtout the internet for the much sought-after original Thundercats toys. It’s funny because if someone had purchased his collection during that time, either for keeping it or selling it later to earn profit,he would certainly have hit the jackpot saving him a lot, lot of money since the value has gone at least thrice up ,too bad i didn’t have a job back then or income! Probably back in 2004-5 the Thundercats demand for toys wasn’t so huge at all and the sellers just wanted to clear up some old store giving them away at whatever cost in order to get rid of them ignoring any future resurface. Many rare and precious collector’s items were sold in, comparing it to nowdays, ridiculous prices even for the hardest to find, best quality MOC. I believe the present soaring prices is the result of a sudden worldwide interest, around 20 years after the toyline’s production stop. No wonder Thundercats toy collection has become such an expensive hobby..
Personally, i consider rare only what meets my own preferences and standards. I totally respect other peoples choices for gathering their collection however they see fit to either MOC or Loose but i don’t think a serious collector is obliged to be a completionist too. Additionally, i don’t like the idea of turning a room into a LJN museum. In my opinion, any collection should primarily bear the marks of the individual creating it, this is even more important and interesting than to exhibit impersonal and plainly rare items in large quantities. Of course there are some generally acknowledged Thundercats toy products, for instance the Laser Saber and Thunderwings figs that were released in limited numbers and Thundercats fans desire mostly, on the other hand i really can’t understand why some items which weren’t so well made and weren’t the main attraction or didn’t play a major role in the series like the Astral Moat monster or the Tongue-A-Saurus managed to be regarded as extremely rare with many hundreds worth. Following my instincts, i don’t care if i never add these two in my collection. Speaking again for myself, i crave for and consider much more valuable a 8-back or 14-back Lion-o rather than a MOC in perfect condition Driller,Stinger or MISB Cat’slair. Lion-o and the rest of the team, along with Mumm-ra and a couple of other villains but certainly not the mutants were by far the best and most detailed figures of the whole toyline. I tend to believe that rarity should be estimated by the factor of quality and on top of that adhere to subjective terms.
The Laser Sabers are rare, or even rarest??? I have three on the card now! I got them a very long time ago on ebay. I don’t remember paying very much…that is why I got them.
I have the good guy “orange and blue”, and two of the bad guy “black and red”

Oh, I just read…you guys are referring to the Lasers that come with the figures? Mine are the Lasers only.
Please note: these observations are solely based on what I have seen since I started collecting 60 days (two months) ago. I believe that I have thoroughly combed most of the internet, including foreign sites and have watched eBay constantly for the last 60 days, remember my opinions are based on what is available for sale MOC (not what is being asked for it)

Now this does not take into account foreign figures – I can tell you I have seen NO MIB Glasslite for sale, No Cosmocats for sale and there has been no MOC single Lion-O that I have seen…
This quote is my thoughts exactly except where you have the word “rare” i plug in “collectible”. What is collectible to me, you or anyone else my not give a dang about and what you collect i may not even give a second look to…
rarity however, is based on actual numbers, if a series of figures was produced for a certain market (example: deluxe laser-sabers for the Italian market) and was never distributed by the production company out side of that market, then it stands to reason that there is a much smaller supply of this series, add in the fact that it was done at the very end of the toy line, as the Thundercats were fading out, and this may have cut the already limited region specific series down to almost nothing distributed to the general public. This basically sums up all but three of the items on my list (actually, you could tie it to the Battery offer Lion-O as well - Limited production run, in a specific market, for a limited time)
The Single 8 Back Cheetara i am still trying to figure out, It could be that she was only placed on a card singularly when they ran out of stock of wiley kit to be placed with her? maybe she was distributed as a single figure in only one part of the USA? this is just speculative as i have no way of actually knowing…
I think the reason there is a lack of sword of omens is that they were simply played with, maybe a lower production run as well…[COLOR=“Red”]just my 2c
I have seen a lot of sword of omens unboxed over the last month especially. You find when one item gets listed and goes high there’s an influx of sellers expecting the same price which rarely happens. There has been only one mib that I have seen in the last 6 months which I managed to buy for £250 (around $400), maybe a little expensive but I had to have one and paid what the seller wanted. I think enough of them were made but like you say they were a toy I think everyone played with. I remember my original one as a child being throw away by my dad because I’d split the blade in Thundercat combat. I guess a lot were damaged, split or had lost battery’s covers that were simply throw away.
There have been at least 10 loose “played with” condition Swords between the two eBays in the last two months. I don’t even really consider a loose sword to be scarce (they still bring good $$$ but thats a different subject lol)
Hi gang, living in France and collecting the french cards titled “Cosmocats” I have to say that they are at my eyes the rarest ones, especially Heroic characters like Lion-O, Cheetara, Tygra, Panthro…

The rarest MOCs defintely has to be the Unitoys 6" Thundercats. Who has ever seen one? I live in Venezuela, and in ten years of collecting, I’ve never seen the first one!
Also, the loose 6" ones are extremely hard to find either. I’m still waiting to find the first Jackalman. I only have a leg and his weapon :sneaky:
Mini Felina (Wilykit) MOC are also pretty scarce…
How can you tell the Playful Jackalman from the Unitoys Jackalman?
On a side note: I have decided that no matter what you have (and think is rare) and no matter what you have seen, there are things out there that haven’t even been documented yet! (example: a MOC Unitoys 6") When i started my collection with a MOC Playful Bengali, i thought he was something special…he is common compared to some of the stuff turning up! [COLOR=“Red”]just my 2c

I think that Lion’o on french Card, kwown as “Starlion” from Cosmocats can be consider as one of the rarest piece of the toy line.
