I hear that Pumyra is going to have 7 episodes devoted to her. Does that mean she is only going to be in 7 episodes. Because by the time we get to episode 26 she will have already been in 7 episodes. If she is in them. I am just worried she won’t be in season 2. In addition, I have a funny feeling she might go back to the cat slaves. But it just a thought.

Well, thus far, none of the cats seem at all upset about Pumyra’s presence and I’m not certain why they would be? Tygra and Cheetara’s glance at each other in “Birth of the Blades” has more to do with the fact that in the previous episode they were nearly caught in a cave-in than anything else. History’s shown that if either of them has a better suggestion or plan, they’ll make it. None of the cats follow Lion-O with absolute faith in his ability to guide them: they have all of them at times questioned and advised him, and it’s his growing willingness to listen to their questions and advice that shows he is at last maturing as a leader. No leader is above question or suggestion, and the fact that Pumyra challenges Lion-O isn’t necessarily bad. Again, all of the cats have corrected Lion-O at one time or another, and their corrections and his ability now to accept their corrections have in many ways improved him as both a person and their king, same as Lion-O or Cheetara calling Tygra on his pride has meant Tygra has addressed that flaw in his character and improved for it. Characters shouldn’t be static and no one of the cats is above improvement, certainly not Lion-O, whose personal growth since “The Trials of Lion-O” has cemented him as one of my favorite characters, and the fact that Lion-O is held accountable for his actions by others as much as he holds them accountable for their actions is I think one of the show’s great strengths.
Also, Pumyra’s aggression isn’t an inherently negative trait anymore than Lion-O’s tendency to be REALLY EMOTIONAL! about things or Cheetara’s emotional reserve are inherently negative traits. They’re not. They’re just aspects of the respective character’s personality, and they can manifest both negatively and positively. For example: Pumyra’s particular sort of aggression means she has a tendency to hold grudges and she’s not very good at emotionally focused interpersonal interaction (preferring sarcasm over opening up), but it also means she has a whole lot of drive to get things down, she’ll fight to the death to defend others, and she cares a ton about justice. Additionally, aggression, especially physical aggression, is a characteristic often reserved for men characters and one looked down upon in women characters; when a woman character is aggressive, her aggression is treated as a flaw with no allowance for the very real complexities such a characteristic holds. That this reboot has not only allowed for Pumyra to be aggressive but through the narrative and the major POV character, Lion-O, praised and justified her anger and aggression is just a really big thing for me, personally. I love that Pumyra is angry, I love that she struggles with her anger, I love that she so very clearly has so much internalized rage directed at herself, I love that she is complex and her feelings and actions are messy. My absolute favorite scene from “Birth of the Blades” and maybe even one of my favorite scenes from the entire show thus far, if only for the significance it holds given all the preceding context, is when Lion-O tells Pumyra that she deserves more.
I love, too, that the show repeatedly affirms that both she and Lion-O are right. Yes, Lion-O did what he believed he had to do, and if he had not sought out the Book of Omens, it’s very likely Mumm-Ra would have claimed it first, which would have granted Mumm-Ra access to the other stones and all but doomed all the peoples of Third Earth. But when Pumyra tells Lion-O that in doing this he abandoned his people, she isn’t wrong, either: the citizens of Thundera were left largely powerless and without direction or defense following the decimation of their armies and the disappearance of their new king and the Sword of Omens, both an item of great power capable of bringing Mumm-Ra to a standstill and a symbol of hope.
Thundercats has a lot of problems, most of them having to do with the inconsistent worldbuilding, but I think it’s done a stunning job with its characters and their relationships. Like, Lion-O is our hero, but he messes up badly, and the show actually acknowledges his mistakes and his flaws, calls him out on them through the other characters as well as the narrative, and has him work to not repeat his mistakes and to overcome his flaws. The characters are complex and messy, and it’s something I think tends to be overlooked, which is unfortunate because I really do believe it’s a remarkable strength of the narrative.
Also, on an unrelated note, seconding what Peripeteia said re: love triangles: m/f/m love triangles are often gross because they frequently trade on the misogynistic reduction of a woman to a prize (see: Lion-O explicitly comparing Cheetara to his sword, as something to be won), while f/m/f love triangles are often gross because they frequently trade on the misogynistic expectation that women are in direct and negative competition with all other women.
I don’t know where the seven-episode thing comes from, but from “The Pit” to the season finale is eight episodes. I hope and pray that she’s finishing out the season with the other Cats and returning for the second, but we’ll just have to see.
Since the Crew of Omens enjoys screwing with us so much, we’ll never get a legit answer. However, I think she will stay because Pumyra said she would “follow him anywhere”. Plus they wouldn’t kill her off.
I haven’t heard anything about 7 eps either, but if it’s true, maybe by “devoted to her” they mean there will be 7 eps focused on her (as she has had in the past 3), and then she will be just one more of the gang. Which would be kind of fair cosidering none of the others have recieved the treatment she has.

I think 7 episodes where she’s the focus is fairly reasonable. Having ones with focus on the other characters will only make the show that much better.
I wonder if any of the Thundercats will be killed off… Like Pumyra =) :roll:
Where are people getting the idea of seven episodes? They said “several” episodes dedicated to her, which means that there will be others she is in that don’t solely focus on her. And they could kill her off…but to what gain? It would only detract from the series if you ask me. Crazy people and their theories…
Devoted to her, means they put her in the foreground of the story. Why would she leave the show? She’s a staple thundercats character. (this week we’ll have an episode devoted to wilykit and wilykat, does not mean they’ll be leaving)
