I really liked this movie. And it doesn’t hurt that Ryan Reynolds is very easy on the eyes.
I like how they created depth with his character. He wasn’t just a flat, action hero. That he struggled with fear was genius and made him that more relatable.
My only complaints was that the movie felt like it moved too fast and I think they should have allowed us to get to know the senator’s son a little better before he started becoming a mutant.
I thought the way they designed the evil creature was good but I thought that Green Lantern defeated him too quickly. Especially considering he was still new to his super powers and none of the other green lanterns would come and help him. I think that should have been a lot more of a struggle for him than it was.
I really liked the green lantern guy who died so that the human could take over. Wish he hadn’t of been the one to die, I really, really liked him in the brief time we got to spend with his character.
The only thing I don’t get is why he was flying a spaceship when all the green lanterns fly through space with the power of their ring. Oh well.
It was still a very good movie and I would like to see it again in the theater.
i really enjoyed the movie. i watched it in 3D (which is something i usually dont do) and didnt feel cheated in the least
i think bringing Parallax in during the first movie was a little heavy handed and they could have done with out it, or at least handled it better (like you said, Hal defeated him way too easily once the fight started)
i also think the movie could have used another half hour or so to flesh out Hal’s training and the rest of the Corps, plus a little more time with Hector Hammond so that his transformation had a little more impact
all in all, i think it was a good movie and i really look forward to the sequel.
and how did you like that after credits scene with Sinestro?
Was Sinestro the leader of the green lantern corps? The guy with the pointy ears? I’ve never seen the cartoon so I’m not familiar with all the characters. I thought it looked interesting. It looked as though the evil took him over so that he’ll actually be the villain in the next one. If so, it makes me sad because I actually liked him in this movie. I would hope Hal could find a way of destroying the yellow ring and save him. Although maybe he’s not such a good guy after all?
I think showing him having more training would have been good. When the big guy at the end bragged about having trained him, it felt weird because I didn’t see that much training taking place.
My favorite scene in the whole movie was the scene where the pointy eared guy showed up during training and fought Hal. I loved the dialogue with him ridiculing Hal because he smelled fear all over him and I loved Hal’s facial expression and verbal response to acknowledge that he was right. So unexpected. I’m used to these superhero types never admitting they were wrong about anything. Green Lantern is now my favorite super hero.
yeah, the pointy eared guy was Sinestro. in the comics he was the greatest of all the Green Lanterns until he got kicked out for using his ring to dominate whole planets. he more or less had a “order through fear” approach, similar to what he was proposing to the Guardians in the movie
i meant to comment on Abin Sur (the alien that gave Hal Jordan the ring) using a space ship. if you remember, he was supposed to be on his way to evacuate the inhabitants of a planet. i had assumed he was in the ship so he could transport all the people.
it was recently explained in the comics that he was in a space ship because a prophecy of impending doom had made him afraid to fly on his own and he now relied on a space ship, but i much prefer the reasoning from the movie
I’ve seen this movie 4 times already. I think that’s a new record for how many times I’ve seen a movie in a theater. I saw it once in 3D, didn’t think the 3D effects for this movie was worth the extra price. I rarely think the 3D effects for any movie are worth the price though.
I was surprised… I really thought I was going to love this movie, the previews looked good and alot of my friends like it despite the reviews. I’m a big GL fan. Idk… it just was kinda meh for me. Not BAAD, but I didn’t LOVE it either.
About the spaceship thing you also have to remember that his Ring was almost out of power at that point.
As for Sinestro, I’ve never really thought of him as evil. He was a Green Lantern for a reason afterall. The problem with Sinestro has always been how he thinks “the end justifies the means.” His homeworld was one of the most protected and peaceful planets while he was protecting it, but only because he was so harsh. Everyone was afraid to do anything bad else Sinestro would kill them. He’s one of those villains who truly thinks he’s doing the right thing.
And as for him putting on the ring at the end of the movie, it felt really out of place. He didn’t need it by then. I would’ve liked it better if they waited til the sequel and had him so frustrated with the guardians that he thinks he has to resort to the yellow ring to do his job and then it corrupts him.
So he thinks he’s doing the right thing when he’s not. Sounds psychopathic.
I agree that his putting the ring on at the end seems out of place. However, they could use that scene during a sequel. So when the second movie starts, Sinestro is still a Green Lantern. But then whatever happens, happens and we see the scene that appeared in the ending credits of the first scene and watch him put the ring on. They could do that.
I suppose the other explanation they could make is that he felt he couldn’t be as good of a green lantern until he mastered the power of fear and for that sake alone, chose to put the ring on when he did.
