Looking back at my Thundercats collection, each toy holds a certain place in my heart and I think back to all the memories and times of which I can only hope I come across again in the future. Whether it was the “hunt” or actually receiving Thundercats toys in the mail, I remember all the good times as well a few bad ones but I cherish and visit them every time I look over at my collection. So… I thought it would be interesting to hear some stories both, Good and Bad about your Thundercats acquisitions. I’ll begin…
The Bad
I think it was around October/November of last year that I came across a Thundercats MOC US Bengali figure WITH the name sticker! I have never seen one in such good condition let alone with the sticker and American card. I watched the auction feverishly and knew it was gonna cost a pretty penny. I gave it some serious thought for about a week going back and forth whether it was worth it. I came to my decision and won Bengali for around $800!!! That was the most I EVER paid for a toy but luckily at the time I could afford it. I had held off on ebay auctions for a while and had saved enough money to justify the steep purchase. After a REALLY tough week at work the package finally arrived by Fed-Ex!!! I carefully opened it and there it was! a new Thundercats toy worthy of adding to my small collection. But the figure was sitting about 2 inches above where he should be, then I it dawned on me. I looked at the pics on the Ebay listing and my heart sank. Not only did the fig move up in the tray but busted through the inner bubble, shattering it!!! I contacted the seller and long story short, she reimbursed me and apologized. Luckily she got back the money due to the insurance and Fed-Ex’s complete negligence.
The Good!
It was late December/early January and I was still pretty ****ed about the Bengali experience. An other-wise perfect American MOC Bengali specimen completely trashed by Fed-Ex. Surely it was bad karma or something. Then I came across… an AFA 85 Sword of Omens!!! This was it, the holy grail, more so then Bengali. As a late Christmas gift and the money recouped from Bengali, I decided this was a chance I had to take otherwise I would regret it. I made an offer, then a counter offer, then it was finally agreed. The deal was made, the money sent. And a couple of days later the giant packaged received! I even filmed it lol! There it was, the actual Sword of Omens sitting on my table in all its glory. That more then made up for the Bengali experience and to this day I don’t regret a single dollar spent to get this in my collection. So on a happy note, I remember years back when I first started collecting toys I never ever thought I would come close to owning The Sword of Omens. Now I can happily rejoice in that memory knowing that as far fetched as it seemed, it actually came true and I can share this story with fellow collectors who would appreciate it.
