Today is the last day that US broadcast TV will air Saturday Morning Cartoon programming. And so ends an era.
This doesn’t mean that you can’t watch cartoons on Saturday morning of course. There are more cartoons than ever available to be watched on cable TV if you choose the right channel package. And of course streaming cartoons on demand means you make any day and time a Saturday Morning extravaganza of animated goodness.
This day doesn’t mark an end to cartoondom at all, just a long standing tradition of kids getting up early on a Saturday, pouring themselves a bowl of sugared cereal and hunkering down in front of the TV for a mini-marathon of watching their favourite shows and enjoying realms of fantasy before getting on with the rest of the weekend.
Such a shame, Saturday morning TV hasn’t been the same now for so long.
I’m surprised with the amount of satellite channels these days that there isn’t a proper channel dedicated to classic cartoons & shows from the 70s-80’s & 90’s.
Surely there is enough of a demand if the channel showed classic Ghostbusters, Heman, Thundercats, Gummi Bears, Inspector Gadget, Power Rangers, hell even throw in classic Knightrider, A-Team etc… the possibilities are almost endless and surely would prove popular.
