I don’t know if anyone has mentioned this or not. I just watched the final episode today. I am a bit disappointed in a few things. Why did they leave Tygra out of the episode. He should have been there. I also think the battle between Lion-O and Mumm-Ra should have been longer.
In technical terms, it met all the requirements for a series finale, but artistically it was a bit flat.
I agree that Tygra - and Pumyra - should have appeared, but I’ll not make too much fuss about that as it might have required careful plotting to get them there.
My problems are more to do with the following:
Mumm-Ra just happened to be spying on the Thundercats that day - no prior explanation given. Moreover, why didn’t he just observe them in his cauldron? That’s what he usually does.
The items placed at those locations - where did they come from? They should have used existing items from the Treasure Of Thundera, especially as they were making the book and the key such an important part of this story. (Although I’ll excuse them the flag.)
Yes, the battle between Lion-O and Mumm-Ra - and the fact that the Ancient Spirits Of Evil just sent Pyron in after Lion-O bested Mumm-Ra. Some random new villain? I guess that’s Overgard for you. You can’t just create a random new baddie for one climactic fight after the main villain has been defeated.
Mumm-Ra’s in his mummy form when he takes the Book of Omens and Key of Thundera, but at his pyramid, he’s in his ever-living state. Also, Ma-Mutt wasn’t present.
Yes, I think it is a common complaint that Tygra and Pumyra were absent from the episode. It’s a shame really. Also, as much as I found Pyron in intruiging character a new villian of the ASOE who is supposed superior to Mumm-ra just doesn’t seem right. I would have preferred a more epic battle with Mumm-ra himself or even the ASOE taking some kind of form to fight Lion-O.
I alos found it strange that Mumm-Ra was just there spying. I thing that could be placed in the WTF Moments in another forum. I forgot to mention Pyron. I agree. Using some random villian to battle Lion-O was like a bat out of nowhere. I would have much preferred if the ASOE gave Mumm-Ra extra powers to battle Lion-O. This is what I would have done. I would let the ASOE gave Mumm-Ra the extra powers and in doing so destroying them and the pyramid. That would take care of that.
I would have rather have Tygra in the episode than snarfer. I also notice that Tygra wasn’t that present in the few episodes prior, Well of doubt and The Zaxx Factor.
I also think they should have made it a two parter. I felt the episode was a bit rushed
Oddly enough I was saying to Liam on Sunday I watched the Book Of Omens on Saturday. I think for the second time since I seen it in 2008. Overall as Liam said, it technically ticks the boxes for a finale but it just feels very rushed and flat.
I think this should have been a two parter.
The addition of a new villain was underwhelming, it could have been done so much better.
The placing if the treasures was really odd.
Even Panthro’s voice sounded a little off.
Actually, no. Just have them all from the beginning, and throw a line like “How nice we’re all here” or “It’s nice to have you two visiting” or something.
Ya, with all the other details the writers overlooked thoughout the series something small lie this would have worked for me. Even if they wanted to explain their presence it seems like it would be worth the effort for a finale!
I’ve got it - start the action on Third Earth with someone coming to relieve Tygra and Pumyra, then they hear the news of what’s happening on New Thundera, and they all come flying back in the Feliner.
Sounds decent to me. Any one in particular you would want to relieve them?
No, as the idea would be for them ALL to head back to New Thundera anyway!
Cheetara and the kittens relieved Tygra once. Could be Cheetara or Panthro and Bengali this time.
It would certainly make more sense if it was someone who hadn’t been back yet.
I agree and like you said they will all be going back anyway.
That’s why I said Panthro.
BUT, the fact we haven’t seen more relieves doesn’t mean there haven’t been; there could have been some before and after “Mossland Monster” (highly improbable though).
I think that because of the threat in the episode and them wanting to restore those parts they could have called in for more back up. Thus making it possible for Tygra and Pumyra’s return.
This just makes sense. At the end of the day the writers find a way to work in the characters they like (look at how many times Vultureman was brought back). Unfortunately many writers have said they did not find Tygra and Pumyra enjoyable to write for (not that I agree).
All of the ThunderCats should have returned to New Thundera, and some of their 3rd Earth allies should have been named honorary ThunderCats and put in charge of the Cats Lair and Tower of Omens.
They sort of did something to that effect at the start of season 4, they appointed Mandora, Willa, Nayda, Snowman & Snowmeow and Robears Bill & Belle as “guardians of Third Earth” - why Mandora (who isn’t native to Third Earth) and not Turmagar (who is), I don’t know. Mandora was always more a liaison with the IPCF than anything else.
Ya, Turmagar would have been logical. I suppose Mandora was included to cover the area of space around Third Earth. Somewhat how Tygra calls her about Captain Bragg in Return to Thundera part 4.
