Following on from last night’s excellent team meeting, and the apointment of Kyle & myself in charge of the Cartoon Section, Kyle & I would like to try and organise a team meeting for next week, devoted to talking about the Cartoon Section, who’s going to be doing what, ideas, suggestions, comments, and so on.
Unlike a regular team meeting, it’s not necessarily essential for everyone to be there - but, I’ll be honest and say I would love to see as many of the team there as are able, as I think this is something where we all have something to contribute, even if it’s just insight and ideas. It’s time to get the Cartoon Section party started!
What I need are suggestions for dates and times that would be good for you guys to have the meeting. Kyle has informed me that he will be available to take part in a meeting from Tuesday 5th September onwards. This suits me very well, as I am presently free on that date at the usual sort of time (11:00pm UK time). I am also free at that sort of time on Thursday 7th, Friday 8th and Sunday 10th, and more than likely Saturday 9th as well.
Also, just giving you guys a heads-up, there are a couple of specific issues I’d like to address at the meeting, which I thought you might like to think about in advance of us getting together, those things being:
Incorporating the Animation Art section into the Cartoon Section - I dearly wish that Mark was around so that this issue could be discussed with his involvement. As I was telling Neil last night, I may (heavy emphasis on the word “may”) be able to get my hands on scans of some ThunderCats production materials for the site, such as model sheets, early production artwork, possibly even a couple of cels. Don’t get your hopes too high because it may not happen! But, there are a couple of sources I would like to explore, including one individual who waaaaaay back earlier this year expressed a tentative interest in donating about 75 - 100 PAGES worth of production drawings to our Animation Art section! My understanding is that this was never properly followed up, probably due to the constraints on Mark’s time due to his work commitments. As a site, I don’t feel we can afford to let offers of scans of such materials drift by, and yet technically that is Mark’s area and I am very anxious about not treading on his toes and/or upsetting him. So, this is an issue I would like to discuss in more detail.
Ascertaining what materials we already have to hand - this could be anything from model sheets (didn’t Celesta have some of those, or am I remembering incorrectly?) to scripts to official Rankin-Bass materials to more mundane stuff like screen captures from the episodes. I know we’ve all of us got some fabulous material!
Assigning tasks to those willing to contribute - I know that Neil & Martin have got some excellent ideas and information to contribute (see Neil’s details in the minutes from last night’s meeting), and it would be great if they were able to get the “green light” to start work on those!
Together, everybody, I think we can make our Cartoon Section THE BEST on the Internet - WE have the power! (Oh sorry, wrong cartoon! :D)
OK, so that’s one vote for Sunday 10th, with a back-up plan of Thursday 7th - thanks for that info, Neil!
When else would be good for the rest of you guys? Obviously all of this will need double-checking with Kyle when he gets back from Rome, but it sounded as though he’d be available for all of the dates I mentioned in my original post. If you guys could LMK when would be good for you, that would be excellent - many thanks!
It’s looking like Thursday 7th (this Thursday) is going to be the winner here - could someone possibly translate 7pm ET into UK time for me? I’m guessing it’s around midnight UK time, which believe it or not would suit me fine, although it might not be so good for Kyle who seems to be less of a night owl than Neil & I!
Actually, I did my time conversion wrong! I can’t do the Thursday time…I was thinking the west coast is ahead, but it’s the other way around. So either Sunday or you guys can just relay the information to me afterwards.
That is indeed midnight Chris. I might only be able to stay on for about an hour and half Thursday though if we start at midnight. Even less if people are late.
Well, there’s two ways we could play that - either we have two meetings (see Manny’s post above, where he states that he can’t make Thursday after all), or we could start the meeting on Thursday earlier and then Celesta could join us when she’s able. I have to be up very early Friday morning, so realistically I couldn’t be later than about 2:00am at the absolute latest on Thursday evening myself!
Apologies for the double-post, but as Thursday evening is getting near I just wanted to try and get this confirmed…
My proposal would be that we commence the meeting at 11:00pm UK time (7:00pm ET) on Thursday 7th September (tomorrow), and Celesta join us when she can. In this way, Neil will be able to be involved for a couple of hours and he, Kyle & I can make a start discussing some of the burning issues, and then Celesta can join us as soon as she’s able, perhaps even staying on after Neil has gone if needs be? If someone can take the minutes we can relay what’s talked about to Manny - I would have very much liked Manny to be involved in the meeting, but it sounds to me like Thursday is the best option for everyone overall.
Does this sound OK to everyone? I would also say, I’d like to try and arrange this for a time that would be good for Martin to attend (and I seem to recall that weeknights are better for him than weekends), as he had some excellent suggestions for features for the Cartoon Section and if possible I’d like to see him given the green light to work on those!
I’ll be there…we can perhaps send the chat to manny via word doc…that way he can see the whole thing. History is saved with Skype so sending him the full chat should be no problem. It is better that way so as to prevent any info one might forget
Fantastic to know that you’ll be there, MannyC, and Kyle too - and, excellent suggestion about the Word doc for Manny - hopefully we can make that work and get a transcript off to him!
I think that should be fine for me too, I’ve had a busy week and didn’t want to comment before now in case I couldn’t make it on a particular day later on
:? Okay, looking at 11:00pm UK time (7:00pm ET) on Thursday 7th September, the Eastern Time zone time says when it is 11pm in the UK, it’s 6pm for DC, 3pm for AZ and CA. I received this information from both timeanddate.com and worldtimeserver.com.
Maybe we should decide on a telling time site? :? Setup up an account for TCL with all our time zones included in it and then post the information on the team need to know thread?
As for time zones, the only ones I know for the USA are Eastern time (ET) and Pacific time (PT)
ET is 5 hours behind us and PT is 8 hours behind us…
oh I see what your saying Celesta! 7pm ET is actually 12 midnight UK time (not 11pm!) I think Chris made a mistake in the post above as he did get the time correct earlier in this thread.
So just to make it clear, 7pm ET = 12 midnight in the UK.
Yep, Neil’s quite right - apologies Celesta for any confusion! That was indeed a typo on my part, and what that should read for the start of the meeting is 11:00pm UK time, 6:00pm ET. (I think I got that one right, didn’t I?)
Martin: That’s great, I’ll look forward to speaking to you tomorrow night!
