Site Re-design

MannyF is working on the new look design for the site and concerns were expressed about adding new pages and content using the old design to sections Toys and Comics. So Kyle will not be covering the same ground with any new pages, MannyF will re-do any new pages as well as the existing ones by the time the new design is launched. Both Kyle and MannyF confirmed that they are fine with this.

HTML

Both Neil and MannyC are willing to learn the basics of html so they can help out with some basic page building. Concerns had been voiced about burdening both Kyle and MannyF with all the page building working, so we are gonna try and loosen that load on them. Kyle had also said that he wants to spend most of his time working on the Cartoon section, in particular the Encyclopaedia.

Latest Update thanks to Kyle

Kyle has managed to put together the following content online this week:

-Forum icons
-Prototypes pages for the Toy section
-French Encyclopedia pages for Cartoon section

Many Thanks to Kyle for doing this! This new update will be advertised to our members on the front page and on the forum as soon as I get it typed up.

Cartoon Section

We all know that the Cartoon section is not up to par and is basically an embarrassment to our site. It has a lot of potential, but just needs a fair bit of time spending on it. All members agreed that our strongest element of this section is by far the new Encyclopaedia project. So work will continue on this part of the Cartoon section through September up to the end of the year. Contributing to this project will be Kyle, Chris, Martin and Celesta. Interest was expressed in finishing most of the character biographies within the next few months.

Cartoon Section –New Content

As for the general content of the cartoon section, the idea of it’s main page layout designing matching the current layout of the Toy section was expressed and agreed upon. Majority of members agreeing that each section should have the same flow of our content is organised. So the cartoon section will now be split into the following 4 sections:

Behind the Scenes – This sub-section will contain general information pages about the series. Pages should include Voice actors, Music, Telepictures/Rankin-Bass/LCI just to name but a few. Both Neil and Chris have quite a few ideas for this sub-section already.

Episodes – This section will delve deeper into the actual cartoon episodes, as it will include a complete episode guide, original airdates from around the world, original episode scripts and most importantly be the sub-section home of the Encyclopaedia.

Animation Art – Mark’s section will be integrated into the Cartoon section during the re-design launch. It will have it’s own sub-section within the Cartoon section. However points were made that it should be listed under the Behind the Scenes sub-section. There was also an argument that it should be a section on it’s own. This point still needs to be decided on by all at a future meeting.

Features – Earlier in the year it had been decided to ditch the Features section on the main site. From when the re-design launches, each site section will have it’s very own Features section. For the Cartoon Features section, all content and media that does not fit in the above sections such as the Cartoon Network bumper downloads and the outtakes video will have a new home here.

Kyle, Chris, Neil and Martin will begin work on this new content for the cartoon section by mid September. All new Cartoon pages will be developed using the new re-design template only (except the Encyclopaedia which will be done in both) Therefore, all new pages developed between now and December will launch on the site at the same time as the re-design launches.

Chris, Neil and Martin had a small brainstorming session near the end of the meeting and came up with the following ideas for content:

Voice Actors – a page with bios and info on each voice actor to work on the cartoon. Sources such as IMDB, Wikipedia S1V2 DVD feature and existing written interviews will be used to aid us with these pages.

Both Neil and Martin have expressed an interest in putting this page together.

Writers – a page with info and interviews with each writer. Will also list each episode they wrote.

Production Companies – a page with small paragraphs about Telepictures, Rankin-Bass and LCI created once again with help from Wikipedia and any other online information sources.

Music – Information on the composer and will also talk about the themes of each character. If possible, will also include some sound files of each theme to listen to.

Airdates – we will try and put up as much information as we can on what episodes/series aired where and when in each country. So far we have access to USA, UK and Australian airdates.

Exodus pilot v.s. Exodus DVD episode –This will outline the missing scenes that were present in the original pilot, but missing from the stand-alone DVD released episode.

Ho! The Movie v.s Ho! (parts 1-5) –This will outline the differences between the VHS released movie and the individual 5-part episode saga.

Site Re-design launch

It was agreed upon by all (most importantly MannyF) that the new site design will launch on the sites 1 year anniversary (December 10th)

Cartoon section meeting

Many team members expressed an interest in having a meeting to finalise some points and ideas on the cartoon section. This will likely to place in mid September when we make a start. The meeting will be open to all members, whether you work on this section or not. It is not compulsory to attend, but if you are working on the cartoon section in some capacity it is recommended you attend.

Team Meeting minutes continued…

Site History page

It has also been pointed out that the site origin/history page needs writing up and putting online. This is an important page that certainly needs doing asap.

MannyF’s Return

Over the last few months MannyF has taken a break from the site due to personal reasons. Has you all know, he has been working behind the scenes on the re-design which is now complete and just needs integrating into the site come December. MannyF has confirmed that he will return to the site full time by the end of October at the latest. Upon his return, his role will involved putting existing content into web pages for the Toy section. Neil has around 5 toy related articles written and waiting to be put online. Manny has also agreed on a mini update to the toy guide, where the guide pages for Plush Snarf, Sword of Omens, Luna Lasher Mumm-Ra and Thunderwings Lion-o will be added. Like has been previously said, he will also incorporate the new site design into the site in December.

Toy Section New Content, New Look

Following on from the comments made about the look of the main page of the Cartoon section, the Toy sections main page will be slightly re-organised. It will have 3 sub-sections:

About the LJN toy line – This sub-section will contain the following confirmed pages/articles:

Introduction
Card Backs
Mini Catalogues
Toy Adverts
Distribution Overseas
Mail-Away offers
Thundercats at UK retail
Thundercats at US retail
US versus UK cards
Foreign Figures
Packaging Variations
Toy Variations
Dealer Catalogues
Prototypes

Toy Guides – This section will contain full guides to both the LJN action figures and the Kidsworks mini figures. Will also include a price guide and toy checklist for the LJN line, as well as the Kidsworks line (if possible)

Features– This will contain the following 3 features:

-AFA Museum
-Ssslithe appears on a chat show!
-Custom Figures

Then the toy section main bar underneath the navigation bar should feature the following links:

Main, LJN collectors guide, LJN Variations, LJN Prototypes, Kidsworks collectors guide, Foreign Figures

Custom Thundercatslair.org T-Shirts

MannyC is looking into getting polo shirts with the Thundercatslair.org site name on them. Everyone agrees it’s a cool idea and Kyle may look into coming up with a cool design for them.

Merchandise Section

The Merchandise section will remain on the back burner for the rest of the year. Content is ready for this section such as media downloads like a Panini sticker album commercial for example. We also have all the VHS and DVD releases ready to add. Hopefully this section will be worked on in the new year.

So to sum up what everyone will be doing between now and December:

Kyle – will continue work on the Encyclopaedia, as well as html work for the cartoon section and comics section. The Card Backs article for the Toy section will also be completed and put online.

MannyF –Upon his return in October, Manny will do some bits of html work on the toy section. He will put Neil’s existing articles online as well as a small update to the LJN toy guide. Finally, he will incorporate the new site design into the site early December.

MannyC – Manny will be learning basic html so he can give assistance to MannyF with the toy section html. MannyC will also work on putting a Thundercats at US retail article together and help with image editing for the toy guide. He will also be helping those working on the Cartoon section with scans/images etc…

Chris – will carry on organising content for his comic section and with the html help of Kyle put it online. He will also be instrumental in the cartoon sections major improvements helping put information together to put on pages.

Neil- will assist MannyF in the organising of the updates to the Toy section as well as finishing bits and pieces for the Toy section. In September will work closely with Kyle, Chris and Martin on the Cartoon section.

Martin – will carry on contributing text to the Encyclopaedia project and also continue his research for it such as Character appearances. Martin will also help with putting information together for pages that will go into the Behind the Scenes sub-section.

Celesta – though Celesta was not present at the team meeting, I’m assuming she will carry on her writing work with the Encyclopaedia project and will help contribute and collect information that we use in the cartoon section as an whole.

Thank you all for a very productive team meeting. Things look good for the next few months. WE WILL get the cartoon section in excellent shape! This will be the team’s main priority for the next 3 months.

Chris here…

An excellent summary there Neil, nice one! Reading that makes me realise how much ground we covered in just a couple of hours! A couple of quick updates if I may:

  1. At MannyC’s request, earlier this evening I took a stab at writing the text for the “Site History” page. Apart from my inexcusable blunder of forgetting to add Martin’s name to the team members (:duh: ), everyone so far seems cool with it.

  2. At Kyle’s suggestion, I’ll be starting up a thread with suggestions for a good date/time to have a team meeting dedicated to talking about the Cartoon Section. Kyle’s told me that he expects to be back in the swim of things from Tuesday 5th September onwards, so he gave me the go-ahead to try and organise it for any time after that date.

Things are looking good, guys - at long last, the Cartoon Section will achieve its full potential!

Take care…
