Quick post in haste - this guy who set up a ThunderCats Facebook page devoted to movie news is looking to offload it, and has contacted us to ask if any of us want to take it over, rather than it just get deleted.
The page has over 700 fans, which is a pretty impressive number!
This could be a great thing to get hold of - my only negative comments being, even though the page has over 700 fans, most of what has been posted on it is complete crap, and it hasn’t had much activity - and, it’s also stuck with a username that pertains directly to the ThunderCats movie.
What are your thoughts, guys? If we want it, we’ll have to act quickly before someone else grabs it!!
I have in the past thought about us setting up a ThunderCats Lair page (as opposed to group - groups are going out of fashion in favour of pages IMO) on Facebook, so if I get hold of this what I might do is run it for a while to show willing, then set up a TCL FB page and message all the fans of this page suggesting they sign up over there - and then, ultimately, just let this page I’m proposing to take over dwindle slowly…
I would just use this page for the ThunderCats Lair page, but for the fact that it has the URL ending with “thundercats.movie” - and of course, ThunderCats Lair is about so much more than just the upcoming movie! Anyone know if you can change a Facebook custom URL?
I must admit, I really do think the above idea I came up with would be best - as a promotional tool for ThunderCats Lair, this FB page is pretty rubbish, my main reason for wanting it is because it’s 700+ fans we can e-mail about the site!
If anyone has any suggestions as to what best to do with this page now I’ve got it, I’m very much open to suggestions!
I notice that this Facebook page is getting updates, even though I’m not the one updating it! I don’t mind at all, but just wondered how come this is happening - did he make you an admin as well, Mark?
Hey Chris, nope that isn’t me doing that, I think that the notes section must somehow be tied to our blog postings. I just joined the page as a fan. Sweet.
Chris, are you sure there is a way to send an e-mail to all of the fans? I recall that when we setup the facebook group page you could only do that if you had under 1000 members.
Could you please add me as an admin to the new page? I’d like to promote some of our youtube videos a bit.
Cheers,
Mark

Chris, if you are able to do this please add my Grizzlor Scheimer facebook profile as the administrator as I want to start separating the two according to my interests.
So if you could add me by either animationcels@gmail.com or as ’ Grizzlor Scheimer ’ that would be great.
Just added you as Grizzlor Scheimer - I also sent “Grizzlor Scheimer” a friend request, as I thought it might make a procedure like this a bit easier in the future if we ever have a different TCats page on Faceook!
Cool thanks Chris, I posted Kyle’s promo video and change the picture on the page to our logo. What do you think? Sorry for not checking with you first, I just wanted to see if I could do it.
It’s all good - as far as I’m concerned, the page belongs to the team, not just me!
I just wish we could change some of the info, etc., like saying “studio: WB”, “Release date”, etc., so that it could morph into the official ThunderCats Lair Facebook page a bit more naturally - I know the guy who was the Admin was going to be doing some official promotional work for one of the major motion picture studios and was going to be talking to the guy who created Facebook (yes, really!) and said he’d ask if the page’s custom URL, etc., could be altered for us - but, between you and me, I wouldn’t hold your breath!
I’ve been playing a round a bit with the facebook fan page and it’s fun. We’re almost at 1,000 fans now. Too bad there isn’t a way to directly message the fans who sign up to direct them to our site. Nonetheless it is very cool that any updates we make on our main page automatically get posted on the fan site. I’m sure we’ll get heaps of traffic that way.
Could everyone here who has a facebook account please make sure to invite your contact list to join the fan page? It would be nice to grow this thing above 10,000 fans which should be very easy to do given that we’ll have the best updates and other dead pages have as much as 50,000 plus fans.
Chris, this was a terrific idea in my opinion, thanks for securing this for the site.
Hey all, by way of update on the facebook page that Chris set up for us here is an update on the activity levels that happen on a weekly basis. We’re adding about 22 people a week when I’m not promoting the site by inviting T-Cat fans on other facebook groups so we’re at almost 100 new fans a month when on auto-pilot. We run at about double that when I’m actively inviting people but I’m running out of steam for doing that as it is very manual in nature.
We’re getting about 500 visits a week, so 2000 a month which is pretty good I reckon!
It’d be great if the team posted more there and invited more folks from their friends list though, would love to see this venue catch on!
Here is this week’s summary for the Facebook Page: ThunderCats
+22 Fans this week (1,736 total Fans)
6 Wall Posts, Comments, and Likes this week (10 last week)
537 Visits to your page this week (537 Visits last week)
Hey Mark, you’ve done awesome work with that page - congratulations, my friend! I never realised it would make such a difference!
I would definitely invite more of my friends to become fans except I think most of them already are (except those who are business contacts through music, where a page about ThunderCats is not likely to be of much interest) - however, I’ll take a look and send out some invitations if I find any who’ve slipped through the net!
