I received wave 15 Thundercats Ultimates in the mail today.
Overall I’m pretty pleased with them. Three of the figures come with cloth goods which makes the figures feel a bit more premium. At the same time they have cut back on pack in accessories a lot. It feels like there used to be a lot more accessories with these Ultimates.
I feel like Wizz-Ra is maybe the weakest of the wave. There is nothing wrong with him; maybe it’s his design - he’s just an Egyptian guy.
I wanted a Jagara figure for a while, so I was glad to get her. I feel like her two heads are a bit too similar in person. The face with the teeth showing is very similar to the other head with how it’s painted; the renders make it look more different than it does in real life.
Old man Mumm-Ra is cool. I don’t know if it’s worth the upcharge over the deluxe version as I don’t have the deluxe one. I didn’t think I would find a big difference between him and the original version, but somehow this one looks a lot better to me when I looked at them next to each other. I don’t think I needed a new mummy version of Mumm-Ra, and yet now that I have this in hand I like it a lot. I’m trying to not double-dip on characters that I already have a decent version of, but it happens (The new Tygra Ultimate is so similar to the old one, but I wanted the slight upgrade).
Zaxx is maybe my favourite of the lot, even though he isn’t a favourite character of mine. He’s nice and big and he looks good. The odd thing I found about him is he comes with a small set of fists attached to his smaller arms and there is an additional set of small fists in the package. As far as I can tell there is little or no difference between the sets of small fists. I would have preferred if they had given him small open or clawing hands (the only different set of small hands is grabbing hands).
Anyway, overall I’m content to add them to my shelves. Bring on the Wave 16 announcement!
