I may be wrong, but I believe he was a Tiger before he was Mumm-Ra. That’s also the reason why I think he was able to manipulate Tygra so easily in the Astral Plane in “Between Brothers”. He knows how it is to be second place, but found out how to become all powerful.
Anyone else wondering that??
When the show first started I thought that, but not after watching Legacy.
If he’s any animal (and don’t I think he necessarily is one) I think he’d be a bat.

Looks like some freaky cross between a bulldog and a bat to me. 
That’s what I would guess as well. He does have quite a bulldoggy face.

I don’t see why he had to be a tiger. If he was a cat, he could have been any cat. Even more, wouldn’t it be great if it turned out he was actually a lion?
Many people point out how Mumm-Ra worked Tygra’s jealousy in the AP, and they’re right, but there’s mucho to it. In the Ap he was more powerful, able to work on people’s weaknesses. I think that besides working on Tygra’s jealousy, he also worked on Lion-o’s insecureness and fears of betrayal. Just as Tygra’s jealousy got stronger/bigger in the Ap, Lion-o’s fears did as well.
Cat’s did play a big part in Egyptian beliefs and society. Many cat’s were even mummified. It’s an interesting idea that I can’t believe, I never once thought of.
I prefer the origin story of Mumm-Ra from the comics. I think making him a cat would be a bit much and almost overkill. But a very cool connection amongst them all.
Yeah I really don’t like that idea. It’s too obvious a conclusion and something you’d find in a BAD fanfic.
I prefer Mumm-Ra to have been a Mutant priest (so the suggestions of him being either a bat or canine Mutant I’d be happy with)
Although not true to the 80’s series, I always liked the fact Ljn tagged him ‘Leader of the Evil Mutants’ kinda implying he was a Mutant himself. I really don’t want him related to the ThunderCats, as we don’t need another cat that went evil, since we already have Grune.
i thought he resembles a cat or he is cat like, but only because his feet are catlike. i thouhgt he was an alien species, or demon born. id like to see if they explain his origin though, i neve rread the comic, what was his story in that verse?
I don’t recall EXACTLY. But in the Wildstorm comic Thundercats Origins Villains and Heroes he was human and on earth. He was an adviser or high priest to the Pharaoh and the pharaoh considered him part of his family. But Mumm-Ra really wanted to take out the Pharaoh and become ruler. This is when Mumm-Ra called upon the ancient spirits of evil for the first time to give him the power to defeat the Pharaoh and his army. He then became the Mumm-Ra we know and love today.
This is where my memory gets a little foggy but somehow his planned failed to kill the Pharaoh and ends up being imprisoned in the onyx pyramid and mummified. You may want to double check some of this but I know it was something along these lines.
They always seem to show his feet, almost giving us the answer to the question never really asked. It also really surprised me in Legacy how the cats were the only race of animals working with Mumm-Ra.

I just don’t see how he’s a cat in anyway. Very bad fanfic, to obvious and i just can’t see something storywise how it’s possible. I dont really wanna go back more in time before LEO. He does not look really look like a Thundercat, not in size or anything else and i HATE if the story would be something like “omg he was a angry lion/tiger.. öhm… he got some evil powers and everything changed about himn… mm ok”. Boring… to simple. Done countless of times, just.. NO.
Also regarding this community in this forum (not meaning anything bad) it seems like everyone over looks tiny little things. That’s the feeling i’ve gotten since i started coming here last summer and it still holds with this thread.
As to Mumm-Ra being a feline, and playing the mummy’s advocate here, it actually makes more sense than him being an ancient Egyptian in this new series. Considering his access to magic (stones) and technology, he could have been the cats’ greatest king, but his quest for “immortality” failed in a most gruesome way. Just a thought. Also does answer why the cats were working with him.

I think its simply because we didn’t see many of the other animals in that episode.

I agree that his old Wildstorm origin doesn’t fit in with the NS, and the crew did say they weren’t taking any stories or concepts from the comics.
i agree balgus, i like the idea of the wildstorm origin in the os, they have established humans in the os though, the new school, thay havent mentioned or so far introduced any humans. so i like the idea of him being a cat that became something else, like the greatest king thing. i hope they dont introduce safari joe. and ithat s gonna go for any human character. i like the animal kingdom inspiration. plus the ancient egypt origin does sound like rasputin lol.
I think they should definitely include a lot of the human characters from the OS. There’s just too many of them that were popular to ignore. On top of Safari Joe there was Mandora, Hachiman, the Warrior Maidens, ect.
BUT, I think they could change them from human. They could easily change them to species like what the Wood Forgers were in the Forrest of Magi Oar or what some of the townspeople from Duelist and the Drifter were. There are more species in the show than just animal species.
as long as they arent human. the os episodes with humans, like safari joes episode, was really corny. but thats my opinion. and yeah i like the idea that they introduce human characters as a new species. and now that you mention it, what was the species of the people in the magi oar ep?
No. It simply doesn’t make sense for them NOT to include Humans. What’s the point of setting the story on Earth, even 3rd Earth, if you’re not going to utilize and tell the stories of the last of Humanity?
