I have asked a similar question on the He-man.org boards. If a ThunderCats movie is made. Do you think the ThunderCats should be allowed to kill?
Yes. Not just for the hell of it though. Kill only when it’s necessary.
I agree with NewKidInTown. The Cats should be allowed to kill, but only when there’s no other option.
I would also agree. If there’s no other option, I’d say yes. But I don’t think that they should go around killing gratuitously. Only when necessary.

I would also say “only when there’s no other choice”. There’s a tendency when revisiting characters like the ThunderCats to want to make them more relevent to an older audience by taking the gloves off and making them more “adult”, both in terms of sex appeal and in terms of violence/killing/etc. That’s what the DC/Wildstorm comic series tried to do. But, in so doing, you can move so far away from the source material of what made the characters tick that it just feels off - and again, I’d say that’s what happened with the Wildstorm comics. 
Just because a superhero (or team of superheroes) doesn’t kill doesn’t make them any less relevent, or make their stories less appealing to an adult audience - in fact, I’d say a writer going “What can we do to make the ThunderCats interesting? I know, we’ll have them go round and kill people!” is actually a sign of unimaginative storytelling.
So yeah, there should be times when they have no other choice - but, it should be something they hate doing, and try to avoid doing whenever possible.

Glad to know we’re on the same page on this - I think what spoiled the Wildstorm comics for me was the fact that they just didn’t…quite…get what the ThunderCats were about. They’d seen the high octaine action (or at least, high octaine compared to what else was around at the time!) in the cartoon and thought “Wow, ThunderCats is about all this fantastic fighting and battles and stuff!”, without actually fully comprehending the context surrounding the fighting and battles and stuff! 
I won’t lie, watching the ThunderCats beat the you-know-what out of the Mutants is exciting to watch! But, IMO there’s so much more to ThunderCats (and the TCat characters themselves) than that, which the DC/Wildstorm guys couldn’t seem to quite get their heads round.
So yes, if the ThunderCats ever get brought back, either in TV, movie or comic form, IMO their characters need to be kept in-context with those of the originals - and that means, no killing unless they absolutely have no choice!

No. The good guys do not kill people under any circumstance. They are there to hold the forces of evil at bay, but as Jaga says, Evil can never be destroyed. The good guys should reabilitate evil and change their ways.
This is a kids cartoon, end of. I feel that the 2002 He-Man cartoon failed because it just wasn’t kid friendly enough. It was too much like an adult series.
They should always look at the cartoon series and the rules that set out, when bringing Thundercats back. So there is no reason to have any deaths in a kids cartoon/film.
Of course they should be allowed to kill, Hello they maybe heroes but they also have the genes of LIONS, CHEETAHS, PANTHERS, TIGERS, PUMAS, JAGUARS, LYNXS etc etc. All of these animals are hunters and predators so shouldn’t they focus a bit more on their animalistic characteristics? They are called ThunderCats not *****Cats. If anyone saw G.I. Joe Resolute then you noticed there wasw a good bit of violence and some death, seemed to work out well in my opinion. To think that the good guys do not kill under any circumstances is a bit naive as well. Surely they can kill in self defense right?
Again it’s a kids film, so that scenario would never arise If you want to make a film about fighting and killing don’t bother sticking the Thundercats name on it.
Well who says it needs to be such a tame kids film?
Star Wars characters kill bad guys and those are generally considered kids films
My sentiments exactly grizzlor. Lets not be silly or naive here, there has been violence in kids media since before all of us were born or do I need to remind you blackiecats of the old Bugs Bunny cartoons, along with Tom and Jerry. Both kids cartoons and if you don’t think getting an anvil dropped on your head or getting your face blown off by Elmer Fudd’s shotgun violent then go figure. This is 2010 and a Thundercat movie with some violence and an occassional kill isn’t going to heart anything. Believe you me kids hear and see far worse in the school system and on the streets these days. So I say hell yeah I wanna see the Sword of Omens slice off Jackleman’s head…is that so wrong.
It’s not about shielding kids. That ain’t the issue I have. It’s about keeping the sentiment and values of the original premise. To change it, kinda ruins what the show was all about.
Tom and Jerry was always about slapstick violence and again if you alter that, you lose the original premise of the cartoons and what made them funny.
I could have sworn most of the toons from the 80s were about selling toys. Sure some series like G.I. Joe, He-Man, Thundercats, and Silverhawks along with some others had morals at the end and within the eps but it was all about the toys and entertainment. However that is just my opinion. Anyway I’ll agree to disagree with ya, however a little violence won’t hurt what Thundercats was about. Because at the end of the day Thundercats was really about Good triumphing over evil.
