I love the new series, but I tend to agree with many others here that the episodes seem to go by way too fast! With the exception of maybe 1 or 2 episodes, the series so far has felt rushed to me. 22 minutes don’t allow for much space to let a scene breathe, or to focus on more than one character at a time.
My wish would be that somewhere along the line, Thundercats will expand to hour-long (45 minutes without ads) episodes. I think I read somewhere that the first two seasons have already been written, so that means that season 3 would be the earliest that the writers could start scripting longer stories. I sure hope they (and the network) would at least consider it. I for one would gladly accept the sacrifice of half as many episodes per season if said episodes were twice the length they are now. Anyone else agree?
The sad thing is, the commercial breaks on TV seem to be a lot longer (and more frequent) than they used to be when I was growing up. In my opinion, there’s no worse feeling than being torn away from a riveting scene and having to suffer through annoying ads for what seems like forever before you finally get back to the good stuff! And don’t even get me started on the absence of series intros.
I dunno…could be I’m just getting cranky in my old age (I’m 31).
As an adult I’d absolutely love it if they did, But I don’t see it happening. They just don’t make hour long animated shows. It would probably be more expensive in the long run because even though they’d have more time to flesh out single episodes they’d have less time to tell the whole season long story.
Also give watching the episodes in a marathon session a try. IMO they flow much better back to back than they do as single episodes.
this is one of those touchy situations. when you expand the series to hour long episodes, you run the risk of having episodes that dont have an hour’s worth of content, and things get drawn out for no reason other than to fill time
i think they should do something similar to what Clone Wars does. if there is a story that needs to be longer than the standard half hour, then make a special 2 episode showing, otherwise, keep it to a half hour like normal
Considering the target audience is children, I say no. A full hour is a long time to hold any kid’s interest; unless they are a little older, but then they tend to have less free time due to more things to keep up with.
I agree with Ideal, take the Clone Wars approach, make a 2-3 episode arc as needed. In fact they have almost mastered the art of making a 2-3 episode arc where each part can be a stand alone episode too.
For adults, hour-long episodes would be great. For kids, I don’t think so. Of course, having longer specials and mini-event movies would be cool from time to time.
I find the idea of hour-long episodes pretty appealing.The stories’ main themes could be elaborated more fully, with plenty of time for action, humor and character-development.
I would keep it at 30 min, I remember when the justice league cartoon came out with hour long episodes but of course they were cut in half and many times it would be awhile before I saw the second half. Thirty min episodes isn’t bad it’s just they were getting less of those 30 min because of more comercials then normal.
I’d prefer the episodes remain a half hour long because it would take longer to produce if they were expanded to an hour. Also, they might not be able to show them on a weekly basis if they were longer.
