Shark Society Speculation

We have a thread about what the fourth stone will be like, but let’s also speculate on the nature of its holders, the Sharks. I think it’s a pretty safe bet that they are the ones who have it, through process of elimination and just by looking at the webbing on the hand that took the stone in the flash back. If we get a second season (and I pray we do), these are the guys who have it.

One thing before I continue, I am calling them Sharks instead of Tiger Sharks becuase one, it’s shorter, and two, Tiger Sharks seems too specific for a whole race of sea animal people. I think they were just called Tiger Sharks so we would get the reference to ThunderCats’ sister series.

So, what are the Sharks like? Well, here’s what I think. If ThunderCats is planning on doing a full reference to Tiger Sharks, I expect there to actually be a lot more than Shark people. Only one character in the old show was a shark, while the rest were based on other sea creatures.

I believe that while the Sharks came from Mumm-Ra’s ship, there are plenty of other races living in the waters of Third Earth. We already have the Fish Men from “Ramlak Rising,” so it’s safe to assume there could be Octopus, Walrus, and Dolphin people as well.

Now, if we take the above to be true, there’s two ways that the Shark’s history could have played out. 1.) The Sharks became like the Cats, using their stone to take over the oceans and dominating the other races of the seas. Or 2.) Unlike the Cats, the Sharks learned to coexist peacefully with the other races. I like to believe the latter, because this will more easily allow for a sea creature team like in the Tiger Sharks show.

Based on my speculation that the fourth blue power stone can control elemental forces, the undersea world of the Sharks could be more magic based, as opposed to the technology based society of the birds, or the warrior culture of the Cats (or the spiritual society of the Elephants). If we look to the depiction of Atlantis in DC comics and the current Young Justice series (also produced by Warner Bros. Animation), Atlantean society is one that utilizes a lot of magic and sorcery, probably due to technology not working well under water. The culture of the Sharks could be very similar, and I think it would work well.

I think the Tiger Sharks could be pretty easily adapted to this new series, much more easily than even SilverHawks could. Instead of being transformed humans, they’ll just be animal people that live in the sea. T-Ray could be some kind of war lord that is causing trouble, and the ThunderCats could help the Tiger Sharks deal with him. Heck, it might even make for a pretty good series set in the oceans of Third Earth.

EDIT: I realize that we still know very little about the culture and society of the Monkeys and Lizards. Should we have separate threads for them, or should we use this one to speculate on them as well?

Good theory, then again it wouldn’t hurt to see some Jaws-action as well as some epic Atlantis-esque battles.

i agree with pretty much everything you said. I think that would be the best way to start a season 2… Mumm-Ra having all of his mutant generals now (at least all of his OS mutants). I would imagine Skycutters would be introduced pretty soon with the edition of Vultair. And even the nose divers would come into play when going under water to get to the Tiger Sharks / Sharks. I would assume the thundercats would develop a new kind of vehicle to get below the seas to meet with the Sharks to get the 4th stone. That’s a whole lot going on and bein thrown out us. It would be an insane beginning to a second season.

and hey ya never know…if tigers are natural born flyers, maybe white tigers are natural born swimmers or sea navigators

Do you remember the few episodes that where complete flashbacks that featured the various animals under Mumm-Ra? Where there any scenes with the sharks in these episodes?

I Found some pictures of the SHARKS!!!

I really don’t think there will be a full on Tiger shark (as in the sister series) reference. I think that was more of an in joke for the older fans.

I think (HOPE anyway) that the society will be fully marine, with perhaps an anthropomorphised shark elite/royal family and minor characters based on other sea creatures, perhaps a female dolphin character? I think we’ve seen how the shark characters (or at least the minor ones) would look in the flashback episodes. I do hope they steer away from any cutesy nemo esque characters though, I’m sorry but they’ve overloaded the sugary sweet factor already with characters like Lucy etc. We need some serious characters and some serious action now.

I’m thinking either the Feliner or perhaps a repaired Thundertank would be used as a sub to get the cats down to an underwater city.

Also, if there is a two or three episode arc with the cats on or under the oceans of Third Earth, then there might even be room for Termagar the Tuska and a walrus race too! Even the berserkers could make an apperance if they made them more cyborg than human?

Oh and this is a good shark race thread, new ones could be made for other threads.

it would be really exciting to see some TigerSharks. But if I had to pick one other sea creature I wanted featured, it would have to be a narwhal… (I made that clear in the fourth stone post too, but what can I say? I’m a sucker for the insanley horn that could be photo shopped into a light saber!) XD

Why do I see a villainous squid in the “Tigershark” future.

Think I’d rather see a villainous sea urchin or some death mollusk. One that would taste nice in a butter and white wine reduction.

And do the previously encountered Fishmen have any connection to the Sharks?

They are the escaped and deranged janitorial staff of the Tigershark metropolis…made high off their rockers by consumption of tainted shellfish.

Actually something that could make the show much more relevant to modern day problems, it could be that there is a conspiracy within the Shark society. The citizens are in a utopia, but are percieved as fools by those from the outside becuase of this lifestyle. The majority of news and media is heavily edited, there are various secuiryt checks for simple day-to-day travel, and maybe even when people are unknowingly being surveyed to keep up with how their citizens feel about their lives.

Instead it’s a feat of corruption that takes all of the power that the TCats can muster from those who haven’t fallen into this lifestyle to spread the word and take a stand. Maybe even bear a little resentment because they are aware that once they heard the news of the fall of Thundera, everyone reached a panic mode so high they just begin to live in denial.

Unlike Avista where they were aware of the problems on Third Earth and were just full of pride that they were unwilling to gie the stone, the citizens of the Shark society have no choice - they don’t want to give up the stone for fear that they peace and denial they want to live in will only panic and we will reach true chaos within the seas.

Well a villainous squid would give a nice wink, wink to the Silverhawks fans out there.

As for everything else folks are saying, I think that while the Sharks are the rulers, they might be very aggressive towards the other animals (kind of stuck up like the birds were) until Mumm Ra and his forces are down their throats.

Perhaps there is descent, where young Prince Mako, has to assume the throne upon the death of his father/mother, and the other species see this as a chance to claim the throne. Enter T Ray. (I sure as hell hope Bizarely doesn’t enter the fray. Though perhaps as a nice wink T Ray’s flag ship might be named the Dragonstein).

In a sense, I can see T Ray becoming an unofficial ‘fifth’ general for Mumm Ra, or perhaps an Admiral for the evil lord.
