September 11th

God bless the U.S., God bless the service men, God bless the 5,000 that lost their lives in the World Trade Center, God bless those that died in the airplanes that crashed.

This is like JFK, we will always remember what we were doing that day on September 11th, 2001.

I was pregnant with my son. I was getting ready for work when I turned on the t.v. and saw the news. Every single channel was on the World Trade Center, even the cable channels. My husband is a roofer and was working on a house two blocks away from my home. He came home on break to see the news. I already had the t.v on, when he was there, we saw both towers fall. I cried.

Then we saw another plane crash into the Pentagon. Then we were heartbroken to see another plane crash in Pennsylvania. I live in Pa, and that really hit home. It’s such a shame that everyone died on those planes but I am so proud of how brave people were on board United 93. They may have died but they weren’t going to go down without a fight! They fought the terrorist! From what I read and heard, that plane was destined for the Capitol building or the White house. From what I learned on wikilopedia, their battle cry against the terroist was “Let’s Roll!” I thanks Azmom for telling me about the movie United 93 as I learned so much more.

Remember how all flights were cancelled and seeing a plane in the sky scared you? I remember seeing a plane September 12 and I knew it was a fighter plane because all domestic flights were cancelled. I looked up while walking home from work and I felt a shiver go down my spine. As I worked in a hotdog shop, it was only one block away from an Army National Guard building. My heart broke when I saw so many men and women coming in for lunch in their uniform, knowing where they had to go and they had a job to do. One of them I knew very well.

Another thing I remember from Sept. 11th was how everyone displayed the flag.

That day on Sept. 11th, I got off my shift at the hotdog shop and walked to my parent’s house to talk. I remember what my mother and sister said. My sister started…“Sue..(my real name is Susan), I woke Mom up and told her we were under attack.” Isn’t that very scary? To be woken up to be told that we are under attack? But it was true. We were attacked. Two days later, my mother bought a German Shepard puppy. Not that it could do any good, but it made my mother feel safer.

I want to take this time to thank all of the many men and women that are in the service and protect this wonderful free country. I want to thank all of the wonderful veterans…because of you we have freedom. You sacrificed your time and your life for us.

I think I made this post long enough even though I feel I can easily add more to it.

Susan thanks for all your kind words. As a military member it is always refreshing to hear just a simple thank you. I work at the Pentagon and every day I get reminded of what happened because the first thing you see hanging on the wall is an American flag with the pictures of every person that died. I cant speak for other military members but words like yours make our day worhtwhile. Only if all the troops would come back would it be so much better

OMG, MannyC, you see that reminder every day? I don’t think I could bear looking at those portraits every single day without it taking a toll on me.:frowning:

OMG you work for the Pentagon? I thought you were a veteran, not active duty. I have much more respect for you now. Where your in the service when 911 happened? Or if not, is that what made up your mind to join the Army? That must be very tough to see the pics of the fallen people. God bless you.

BTW…thanks for keeping me and my family safe.

I actually work in the clinic, optometry to be exact. I wasnt there when it happened but you can see as soon as you come in you can see the American flag on the right side on the wall with pictures of every single person that died during 9/11 at the Pentagon. I actually joined back in August of 2000, been deployed for 15 months to Iraq and I just reenlisted for another 5 years so by the time my enlistment is up I would have completed 12 years of service.
I think this may be my last 5 years in the military because even though I want to get going my body may not let me when 5 years are up. In the end I know though that I served my country well and I gave it my all despite the obstacles
