So I created this thread last night and it was lost in the server crisis. So…
Given the category of the DVD that will be coming out with the episodes thus far, we are through the first part of season 1 - Season 1, Book 1.
It’s easy to get narrow focused when we discuss episodes each week focused on that week’s episode. But I find my impression of the series changes as I go back and watch them one after another, and so I find myself with a distinct impression of the first part of season 1 that differs from my week to week impression.
So, here is a thread for you to post your thoughts and reflections on what we’ve seen so far and post hopes and wishes for the future. That kind of thing.
So my review of season 1, book 1…
Love the music, hope they come out with a soundtrack.
Love the artistic scenery, very epic looking and well done.
Season 1, book 1 seemed to focus mainly on Lion-O and Panthro, so I’m hoping the next section will focus more on another character or two (I’m really hoping for it to focus on Tygra and the kittens would be nice to know more about too).
The section started out with a very epic feel and ended on a very mellow, laid back note which I found interesting. Nice that it’s not driving us crazy to know what comes next, but it might have been good for them to end it on more of a bang to keep the audience on the edge waiting for its return.
Panthro got the best lines followed by Lion-O and the twins, then Cheetara, and Tygra got the worst lines.
Lion-O we know a lot about. The one thing that I feel we are missing that would be a needed piece to the puzzle of Lion-O’s existance is who is mother is/was. Did she die? Is she somewhere in exile? Could she be Tygra’s birth mother and if so, was this before she married Claudus or was it an affair? Not likely an affair, but if she had another husband, he might have died when she was still pregnant with Tygra thus counting for the closeness in age between Tygra and Lion-O. Of course, she might not be Tygra’s birth mother at all. But I feel a desire to know more about his mother.
Panthro, I think we know almost as much about him as Lion-O. Lots of flashbacks for his character has given us a strong understanding of who he is. Only mystery is who his parents were but given the character that he is, I don’t feel the need or desire to know that information. His childhood does not seem as relevant as the other characters, but perhaps because he’s older and we know he was a soldier.
Cheetara is Lion-O’s strongest supporter, even when she disagrees on where he’s leading, she still follows without argument. She was one of Jaga’s clerics, she referred to him as her teacher. Her past is still a mystery.
Tygra is Lion-O greatest obstacle on his team. Tygra consistently ridicules and belittles Lion-O sometimes in what he says, other time in the tone of his voice and how he says it. The elder adopted son of Claudus, we know he was Claudus son at a young age in the flashback we saw of him sword fighting with Lion-O, but we still don’t know at what age he was adopted thus making his past still a mystery. We know Grune was his hero but we still don’t know his real feelings from discovering Grune was a traitor.
Overall, I like the flow and enjoy the series. If they don’t develop Tygra, Cheetara, and the Kittens more by the end of this season, I will be highly disappointed.
