SDCC Exclusive Figure

Not to mention they’re the ones actually sculpting the figures, so they would absolutely know what figures are being made.

You need not wonder no more! lol. Yes I’m one and the same

As for the SDCC ThunderCats exclusive, I honestly believe something is up and I wonder if it’s all tied in with MOTUC rumoured to be ending :frowning: It could be that Matty aren’t attending SDCC and the ThunderCats item will be sold on MattyCollector later on this year… Obviously this is only based on speculation as it does seem odd they were doing a reveal per day and then suddenly stop :frowning: and for the record nobody from Matty has attended Power-Con (just reps from the dolls department promoting the upcoming SDCC She-Ra exclusive…

Yes definitely MOTUC for sure, though ThunderCats isn’t represented at Power-Con this time like in previous years so I can understand them not showing stuff from that line.
The fact is they haven’t even displayed any upcoming 2016 MOTUC figures and of course the only dedicated MOTU convention is the prime place to promote the current line at the very least. That’s why some are worried Mattel have given up on MOTUC and possibly MattyCollector too! :frowning:

Not necessarily. I know in the past (at the height of MOTUC) the 4H often commented that when a final figure got displayed at Conventions that was the first time they saw that figure in plastic. Though that does not mean they don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes.

Mattel did have a panel at power con though

There was a lot of ThunderCats at the toy room though. I was one of the first ones there on Saturday, and had my ThunderCats hat on. They had a moc Stinger in there (for 1000), and I saw Rodrigo from Mexico who was in the toy hunter show. He had a bunch of clear Lion-O bootlegs and two giant Slithes. I didn’t realize they were so huge! I also saw a custom Lunatacks set that looked awesome. Another guy at a booth had a boxed Thundertank for sale and a bunch of complete figures. I picked up a collectors case and a complete working Mumm-Ra for 40. I went to the 4 horsemen panel where they talked about the sculpting process and I almost asked a ThunderCats question but I didn’t want to be that guy in a room full of Masters fans. It was an awesome experience and I got some great 80’s toys but I could feel the animosity with me wearing my ThunderCats stuff. It’s not that I feel like I wasn’t welcome but I could definitely feel the hesitation, like, why are you here? Can’t wait to go back next year lol!

I don’t collect MOTUC but I am a MOTU/He-Man fan and I am pleased they did get to make all the vintage toy characters. The line did what it set out to do so the fans should be happy with that.
I was never keen on the subscription method and selling through Matty Collector.

The irony is that PowerCon used to have Thundercats representation. It was an all encompassing con with more than just MOTU. So, for anyone to give you funny looks is pretty ironic.

Yes I know, but it wasn’t a MattyCollector panel. It was the folks from the Monster High brand promoting the She-Ra SDCC exclusive

I posted this on the other thread too but thought it might be good here as well since it’s about the SDCC figure:

Well some news at least have finally come from MattyCollector - that is, on their own website. I think there’s some issues with the updating of facebook, but they’ve still updated their website. The June sale has been announced (Skeletor and co) in their news section AND they’ve posted another reveal on June 6th (Amazon Barbie Wonder Woman) ((which I know was revelead already waaay back). But the good news is this little bit beneath the post:
“This product will be available for pre-order at MattyCollector.com on June 16, 2016 for subscribers only (Early Access), and from June 17 through June 26 for everyone else (All Access). Orders must be picked up in person at San Diego Comic-Con. This product won’t be for sale at the show, but you may have another opportunity to purchase this in July. Details on this and more to come. Don’t miss ‘em… sign up for email here!
Check back here for a new reveal each day!”

I might just get happy for nothing, as this might only refer to the Barbie reveal, but I think that they’ve kinda paid attention to those of us who can’t attend SDCC. We might just be able to get the SDCC figure in July as well.

I also just noticed on their website that last year they actually did the same thing (sell SDCC items to the public)
http://news.mattycollector.com/blog/2015/07/27/2015-sdcc-after-party-saleget-the-goods-from-the-show/

So the early access is only good if you can pick it up at the show, otherwise subscribers have to compete with everyone else in July?

Any idea if you can get someone else to pick up an order for you at the show? It says "Orders must be picked up in person at San Diego Comic-Con", but it doesn’t specify that they have to be buy the person who paid for the figure.

Oh Mattel…just when I think you couldn’t make a stupider business decision you go and do it. Bravo.

Isn’t the whole point of a SDCC exclusive being that you buy it at the show. LOL.:00:confused :roflmao

Same story every year, and yes someone else can pick it up for you.

It is, but the fans (and especially international fans) complained that they won’t be able to get it, so this is how you can get a hold of it if you can’t make it to SDCC. I personally think this is a great way to give us int fans the opportunity to buy them … they are a little different though …

I remember the Orko / Prince Adam twin pack, the Orko was translucent for SDCC and normal on the site. (technically it’s not the same figure I suppose)

Then there was He-Ro that had a SDCC logo on it’s chest (this was no big difference, but again, for collectors these things are a difference, so you will end up hunting them down on ebay anyway!! )

Marelena was one, she was packed as Marlena for SDCC and in her space suit afterwards.

Filmation Colour Hordak was one with Imp for SDCC and without afterwards … can’t remember all of them now … :00

Cool. Anyone going to SDCC then?

I know. I had the He-Ro figure, not the exclusive. I wasn’t and never will be that much of a completest that I would want the exclusive version if I have the standard release.
I am interested in that NECA TMNT SDCC exclusive, but I think there will be some regular releases of them later this year.

Like I said before, if anyone wants to pay for me to go (you guys just need to pay for the flights from Ireland to California and SDCC ticket) to it I will gladly buy the exclusives or early access certificates or whatever it is.

Dealing with Mattel for the first time is a learning curve! I certainly don’t want to miss out on the exclusive, so my best bet is to attempt to find someone going to SDCC who is willing to pick it up and mail it to me?

That’s correct.
Protip: If you want an SDCC exclusive (IE: Thundercats Item), I have found that I have more luck going to another forum (non-thundercats related) that I frequent to ask for help. Chances are they probably don’t want the Thundercats item for themselves. Because, if you advertise here, that you want said Thundercats item…so does everyone else. So your likely not going to find anyone here who’s not getting it.

It’s odd as they made some toys I really enjoyed…even the first figures I ever owned (Secret Wars)…but they messed up some lines and just made the collecting process unenjoyable.
