Scripts subsection nearly completed! :)

Hi guys,

Just thought you might like to know that the Scripts subsection in the Cartoon Section is well underway - I’ve spent most of today working on this! Neil pointed out to me the other day that, from an HTML perspective, I could use the French Encyclopedia pages as a template to work from, and so that’s what I’ve been doing!

Unfortunately, as yet I haven’t been able to design an index page for this subsection - I shall do that very last of all, once all the pages are online. However, for the time being you can navigate through all four of the scripts I’ve uploaded through these links:

http://www.thundercatslair.org/cartoon/cartoonguide/scripts/ep31/cover.html
http://www.thundercatslair.org/cartoon/cartoonguide/scripts/ep72/cover.html
http://www.thundercatslair.org/cartoon/cartoonguide/scripts/ep89/cover.html
http://www.thundercatslair.org/cartoon/cartoonguide/scripts/ep125/cover.html

A couple of comments:

  1. I have a fifth script ready to go online, however as I have to resize and rename the images manually (I don’t have Photoshop), my right arm is aching a lot from repeated clicking on the mouse, so I think it best to wait till tomorrow to do the last one!

  2. Not all of the webpage numbers correspond with the page number in the script, as each script is slightly different - however, the way I’ve built these allows me to use the same webpage for several different scripts, which saves me a hell of a lot of time! Don’t worry, when the index page for this is built, I plan to list each page of the script with a hyperlink to each one, so whilst in an ideal world it would be great if the HTML corrsponded, it should be more than easy enough for someone to use!

  3. Needless to say, all of these images need watermarking, as per the discussion in another thread. Please could someone (perhaps MannyC?) help me with this? What I’d ideally like would be if someone could watermark these images, and then replace the images uploaded currently with the watermarked versions - it’s fine to delete the ones that are up there, as I have them all saved to my hard drive! Please would somebody be able to help me with this?

  4. Lastly, Matt - this particular page scan is a totally different size to the others, and also missing the end off the page: http://www.thundercatslair.org/cartoon/cartoonguide/scripts/ep89/page3.html . Could I be really cheeky and ask if you could rescan this page for me so that it’s complete? I hope you don’t mind me asking, my friend!

Take care for now, guys, and hope to speak soon!

chris I can do it tomorrow. I wonder what happened

Chris here…

No worries, Matt, I know better than anyone how gremlins can get into the system! If you could do me a revised scan of that page, that would be magic - many thanks!

Also, just to add that the final script is up:

IIRC, I believe MannyF told me last night that he’d be able to assist with watermarking these - am I correct, and is that alright with everybody?

Now I just have to do the index page for this subsection - wish me luck!

Take care…

Sorry guys I have been without the net for the past day and a half (im typing this at work).I was hoping to work on the bootlegs section but just couldnt…as far as watermarking I can help with those, just point me to the right link.

Chris here…

Hey MannyC, sorry to hear about your Internet problems - ouch! :frowning:

Re: watermarking - my only concern is that MannyF had offered to do this when I spoke to him briefly yesterday evening, and (whilst I’m sure he’d be cool with you doing them) I’m concerned in case he’s already started and you might end up with a situation where two guys are doing the same job at once…

Tell you what, MannyC, would you be able to make a start with the page scans here: http://www.thundercatslair.org/cartoon/cartoonguide/scripts/ep121/cover.html . I know that MannyF won’t have done any work on these images because I only completed them a couple of hours ago! Please would you be able to help with these to start with, my friend, and then we can take it from there? What do you think? Please can you LMK? Many thanks!

Thanks for all your help, everyone - I’m really looking forward to seeing this subsection go live when we update in (I guess) a few days!

Take care…

Batch resizing is a PITA, I know. If you want, try this program. (from what I can tell, photoshop and PSP don’t batch resize, at least my versions don’t - they can batch convert to other formats though). The trial version is free and will let you do a six image batch at a time. It’ll also put a little stamp on the corner, kinda like a small watermark, if you want it to. Which can be handy sometimes.
If you like it, I can give you info to open the full version. Let me know.

With photoshop you can resize in batch but you have to use the action feature. Kyle explained it to me but I forgot how to do it :frowning:

Ah, I am more familiar with PSP than photoshop, though I have both. PSP seems easier, but seems to lack a few key functions such as that. I’ll have to play with photoshop more, I guess.
Still, the aforementioned program will work well enough for those who don’t have photoshop, or if they’re like me, and just never figured out how to use all the shiny buttons

I use Watermark Factory and it batches automatically!

I’m uploading all the files as we speak!

Chris here…

Fantastically helpful stuff all round here, guys and gal!

Purrsia: Many thanks for that link, that’s brilliant of you! I use a program that came with my scanner called Arcsoft PhotoStudio, and it actually does most things I need it to do - the biggest problem as I say is with batch resizing, which it isn’t programmed to do! Despite evidence to the contrary I’m something of a computer dofus, and worry about loading another photo-editing program onto the computer in case I somehow hit a wrong button and am no longer able to use my trusty PhotoStudio so easily - but, if I find I have any more images where I need to batch re-size a whole bunch of them, I’ll definitely take a look at that software!

OK, here’s the new index page for the Scripts subsection - as you can see it’s named “index2”, all that needs to happen for it to go live is for the current “index” page to be deleted and this one renamed to just “index”!

http://www.thundercatslair.org/cartoon/cartoonguide/scripts/index2.html

As you can see, it’s quite a long page, and so I’ve incorporated a sub-menu up the top so you can jump to whichever script you want to read. I’m hopeful one day we’ll be able to lay our hands on more of these to display, and so I thought it was wise to “future-proof” it - imagine how long it would be with another five scripts added!

Please can you guys LMK if this displays OK for you? Many thanks!

Take care…

Everything is watermarked and can be located here:

http://www.thundercatslair.org/cartoon/cartoonguide/scripts/watermarked/

Chris here…

That’s brilliant, Manny, thank you!

I’ve taken the watermarked images you’ve created and replaced the old versions with these watermarked ones - I confess I haven’t tested every page, but I have tested several at random and they all look OK. If some poor individual was willing to go through the tedious task of checking that every page loads correctly from the index, and that I haven’t slipped up someone and left an unwatermarked version in there somehow, that would be great - if not, don’t worry, everything should be good!

There are just two things left to 100% complete this subsection ready for the update:

  1. If Matt can get me the fresh scan of that incomplete page, and then Manny watermark it;

  2. (Most importantly) - If Matt and MannyC as the owners of the originals of these scripts can look at these images and confirm for me that they’re happy with the way these are being displayed, mainly from the perspective of watermarking. If you guys could LMK what you think, that would be great - many thanks!

Phew! I wouldn’t want to do too many of those sorts of jobs! But, I’m really pleased with the way this is shaping up, and of course it’s obviously great to see the Cartoon Section really growing into something we can all of us be proud of! Thanks for all your help, everybody!

Take care…

Chris the page that needed to be rescaned is up in my folder. Its in the main section titled script correction.

As far as the scripts go they look good. I like how manny got the watermark under the words and not over it

Chris here…

Hey Matt, that’s great, thanks so much for the new scan, and glad you’re happy with the watermarking job! I’ll get a link to MannyF and see if he can get it watermarked - then we really will be able to go!

Take care…

While we are on the scripts subject, didnt someone mentioned before that we could acquire copies of the scripts for a small fee? If thats the case we should look into it so that we can expand and have more scripts available

While we are on the scripts subject, didnt someone mentioned before that we could acquire copies of the scripts for a small fee? If thats the case we should look into it so that we can expand and have more scripts available. another idea would be to request help from forum members to donate scans of the scripts so they could be showcased.

Chris here…

Yeah, in retrospect I perhaps should have added a “If you have a ThunderCats script that you’d like to see us showcase here at TCL, please e-mail…” link to that index page. I still can of course, but what do you guys think to me doing so?

On the subject of aquiring more scripts, yep, some months ago now Purrsia very kindly provided me with a contact for someone who sells copies of scripts - I’ll have a dig through my PMs, as I’m sure I still have the info around here somewhere!

Take care…
