Now that Chris and Manny (Nadja) have the capability to make screen grabs we need to make sure that they are the same dimensions to have a uniform look.

Here are the guidelines.

600 x 450 Pixles

We will need 12 grabs per episode as well as the opening title screen with the episode name on it. We are going for diversity giving a general overview of the events from this episode.

I will then be generating thumbnails from these and be adding them to the episode guide pages.

A couple of things I’d add to Kyle’s post - first of all to MannyC & Nadja, if you guys have any problems getting the images the right size, just take straight screen captures the size your program naturally takes them (if bigger than 600 x 450 pixels) and I can resize them. As these are all a standard size that’s a really easy job! Knowing how well you’ve done the small images for the talkback threads I’m sure you’ll be fine, but if you do need any help, just LMK! :slight_smile:

Secondly, to give a flavour of the sort of thing we’re looking for, earlier this evening I took the liberty of grabbing the images needed for one episode! In order to make sure that there was no crossover of work, I deliberately picked a later episode - “Fond Memories”, which is episode 65! :slight_smile:

You’ll note there that I actually grabbed 13 images in addition to the title card - I would add to Kyle’s post that I’m not 100% sure what we’re going to be doing with the image that’s to the side of each synopsis on the standard episode guide page (simply because I forgot to raise it with him when we spoke earlier!), so to be on the safe side it may be worth grabbing an extra image each time! :slight_smile:

The last point I’d raise is that we need to devise a system to make sure that we don’t double up on each other’s work - to be getting on with, below I’ve created a list, which I shall update each time an episode’s images are done. When an episode is in the process of being “video grabbed”, I shall highlight that episode in red. When the screen captures are completed, I shall keep that episode in red, but bold it up and add the word “COMPLETED” by it. There may eventually be a more sophisticated method, but hopefully this will do for the time being! :wink:

Are you guys ok with the episodes from the DVD sets missing title cards?

The Unholy Alliance and Evil Harp of Char-Nin are 2 that I think are missing them, but I think there are more? If you already have these organised cool, but if not can someone list the ones needed and I’ll look into making them.

I’d need to record my VHS eps or a portion of them to DVD first though using my DVD recorder.

So like I said, let me know if you need any help with those.

Where are the screengrabs I did for TCL? I had at least a dozen eps already grabbed.

That’s cool Celesta, glad you have The Unholy Alliance covered because my copy has the Cartoon Network logo on I think.

As for screengrabs you uploaded, not sure. I did notice some of my work was missing from my folder after the host move and I had to re-upload what I had of it on my PC and the rest I had to do again :frowning:

If they are not in your staff folder then they are probably lost :frowning:

At the Cartoon Section Team Meeting I did attempt to cover the issue of screen grabs and who had done what, as I felt sure that, in addition to the ones MannyC has done for the talkback threads, you & MannyF had both done some already. Evidently I was right - it would be great if we could use those and make some instant headway here! :slight_smile:

I also had some done…and like Celesta, they don’t seem to be in the directory I uploaded them in from the previous host. I’ll have a look on my HD and see if I still have them. I can also grab some new screens as well.

Excellent to hear! :slight_smile: I’m sure I speak for Kyle as well when I say that anyone we can get on board for this would be great, particularly if we can use the list above to keep things organised - going for a realistic aim, if we could get 12 or 13 images from every episode of season 1 for uploading when the new look Cartoon Section debuts in December, I’d be happy with that, anything more would be the icing on the cake! :slight_smile:

I will begin today with taking screencaps, i should have a few episodes done. My next question is if watermarks are neccesary for those, if they are necessary I will watermark them as well

Hey Guys, looks like these screen grabs are going to be a piece of cake..

I think with so many people able to contribut it is going to be VERY IMORTANT that everybody posts in this thread the following information

1. What episodes captures you have already done (aimed at Manny and Celesta)
2. What episdoes you have decided to do if you are about to do some
3. Once captured indicate when you have uploaded them to the site.

Again the helps Chris and I keep on top of the list below and avoids people producing duplicate graps.

I think it is very important that the people doing screengrabs commit to a certain amt of episodes or what episodes they will be doing. After that is done then the list can be udated and the name of the person comitted can be placed next to it. My commitment is episodes 1-20 so feel free Chris to update the list with my name next to it if you would like

In reply to your comment a while back…watermarking might be required…but I would say a subtle one in the bottom right or something…so it doesnt spoil the picture.

Fair enough…I’ll do those as well, Im thinking more of like a 22% opacity? Its basically what ive been using for my latest watermarks

A couple of quick things - first of all, where this thread has been merged with my earlier “My cartoon screen grabs - yes they do seem to work!” thread, please could I request this to be un-merged? :slight_smile: My reason for requesting this is because I would like the top two posts in this thread to be the ones Kyle & I posted about the number of images needed, image sizes, etc. In other words, I don’t want people to have to zip down through posts to find the information they might need about these.

If someone wants to delete my original “My cartoon screen grabs - yes they do seem to work!” thread to keep the Board tidy then that’s fair enough - but, I would like to keep this Screen Grab thread seperate from that earlier one. Many thanks! :slight_smile:

That’s an excellent amount of screengrabs, MannyC - thank you! :slight_smile: I’ll happily update that list - but, before anybody grabs any more images, I’m wondering whether it would be sensible to ascertain what episodes MannyF and Celesta have both grabbed from, in order to avoid doubling up work. :slight_smile:

As far as commitment goes, I don’t actually think it’s necessary for anyone to commit to more than a handful of episodes at a time unless they want to - it could even be one episode at a time, or as many as someone wants! :slight_smile: I can update this list almost daily (another reason why I want to keep my first post in this thread as #2), as long as people keep me apprised of what episodes they want to grab from so that no one is doubling up on each other’s work! :slight_smile:

I think the most important thing now is for MannyF and Celesta to let us know what images they already have - I can then update the list and we can all work out which episodes we’re going to grab from then! Between us, I’m pretty sure we can get this lot done in plenty of time for December! :slight_smile:

MannyC, could you help me out here by taking one of the images from “Fond Memories” that I uploaded and watermark it as an experiment, so that we can see what it looks like? I agree with Kyle that we don’t want too overpowering a watermark that it spoils the picture - if you were able to help us out with watermarking, MannyC, that would be excellent! :slight_smile:

That’s an amazing selection of episodes, Celesta - nice one!! :slight_smile: My one question to you would be, how many of those are from the DVDs and how many are from a VHS source? I’d obviously like these images to be as good as possible, which usually means going from the DVDs as most of the VHS videograbs I’ve seen have the Cartoon Network logo on them! :smiley: But, if you’ve already managed to grab from that many episodes, from a high-quality source - wow, that would just make this so much easier!! :slight_smile:

Like my colleague Kyle just posted, please would it be possible for you to upload some of these images so that we can take a look? I’d love to see them! :slight_smile:

Most are captured from the DVDs and the remaining ones captured from good VHS copies. I plan to start uploading them today. Addition: Perhaps we should hold off on screencapping the last 30 or so episodes until the last DVD set comes out. We won’t have to rescreencap those episodes after the set is released. It’s only a couple of months away. I think we can wait, yah?*

Manny suggested some time ago that it would be easier if they were in jpg. I’ll have to convert some of the files from BMP. (I have Watermark Factory that can batch convert them. I’ll leave the watermarks for someone else for consistency purposes.)

Also, seeing as I started my Screencap Project for “photo reference” purposes, I don’t just have 12 screencaps for each episode, some up in the hundreds. I would like to upload all for two reasons 1) I prefer letting you have the choice of the screencaps and 2) it’s faster on my end.

I 110% agree with everything that you say and suggest! :slight_smile: Being in the UK I likely won’t get hold of my S2V2 DVD set until after we launch the revamped Cartoon Section in early December, but if someone else was able to grab images from those episodes we could get the whole lot done, which would be amazing! :slight_smile:

I agree with Manny, .jpgs would probably be better - my CinePlayer software automatically grabs my images as BMP files too, and I have to convert each one manually! :slight_smile: Luckily, given that I have to re-size and re-title each image anyway, this becomes a very easy job. In theory, I think you could probably leave your images as BMP files, given that I can almost certainly view them and would probably need to convert the ones selected anyway - up to you! :slight_smile:

That’s all totally fine about the quantity of images - maybe the best thing to do would be for you to create a new folder (titled “Celesta’s screen captures” or something along those lines) which I can download and look through via FTP, and then upload the 12 or 13 images selected, correctly sized, etc., to the same folder as my “Fond Memories” images. What do you think? :slight_smile:

I just completed and uploaded Unholy Alliance but someone will neeed to provide the title card, I would suggest that instead of repeating the same list over and over that the first list gets updated that way everyone knows what has been done. Also i think it is important to provide a centarl folder where all can be uploaded to rather than have them scattered all throughout the team members folders.There is a folder titled screencaps in the cartoon folder but its loaded with screencaps that we wil not be able to use. I will make a folder titled Official Screencaps, that way DVD scrrencaps can go in there and organized in episode folders
