That one has been sold for a long time now. The last 8 back i have is a graded Panthro but im not sure if i want to sell that one. It is my favorite character afteer all
My personal theory is from The Cave of Time. After using the fountain to get younger, he made some comment about thinking about staying in until he was “as young as Lion-O.”
But I always thought the “young” version of the figure looks older and weaker than the “old” version.
Yep, my thoughts exactly. It looks to me the “young” version was the Tygra in that cave, and the “old” Tygra was the version coming out of the fountain.
All of the Thundercats, except the Thunderkittens, were shown in their younger version (Time Switch,Thundercubs) at some point in the cartoon but the only character who was portrayed aged, was Tygra in Trouble with Time. Maybe that was a special figure release, paying tribute to this episode. In my opinion the Younger Tygra doesn’t reflect the character as well as it should, and that might be another reason why LJN decided to produce a resculpted version. The old Tygra looks much better and closer to the cartoon design.
The 8-back Younger Tygra though is a very rare piece.
“Young” Tygra is just a term given to the series 1 release of Tygra by collectors in order to distinguish it from the series 2 (Old) release of Tygra. I don’t believe LJN sculpted the series 1 Tygra in an attempt to resemble his look in any given episode. LJN most likely realized that the figures design was not up to par with the rest of the figures and decided to revamp him for series 2.
I agree with this 100%. Series 1 Tygra has a younger looking face (which is why he was nicknamed (young Tygra) It’s simply a fan term to distinguish the two sculpts as AlexofThundera says.
If they did Classics figures, I’d love to see a combination of the two sculpts to make it even more classic cartoon accurate.
