Rainbow Stinger

Howdy guys, need some help here
A fellow collector just purchased a beautiful Stinger on a Rainbow card. The card has an import label on the back of Otto Simon. Curious about the card is the fact that from the rampager pic, madbubbler was left out. I never seen a stinger card like this before. Anyone have some more info about its rarity? :confused:

I’ve never seen a Stinger on a Rainbow Toys card, so I’d say quite rare :wink: This would have been produced around 1989 right at the end of the line. I actually have a Rainbow Toys catalogue, where Mad Bubbler is missing from the Rampagers photo. I’m guessing at this point they were aware that The Mad Bubbler wasn’t get a release and that’s why he was removed from the latter packaging.

I am the lucky one who bought this figure. I called my buddy madbubbler when I saw it at a convention to ensure I found something special.

If this is the only one that is MOSC, has the 6 wings attached and is this kind of variation (uk card imported by the dutch and no MB pic), then I guess I found a gem :slight_smile:

I’m gonna get this one graded for shure and also want to establish I’ve got the only one left in the world.

So if anyone on this forum can help me establish that, that would be awesome.

Also value wise I need some help here. I am a motu collector and when I compare this kind of rarity with the stinger I know we must be talking bigg bucks here :slight_smile:

fe there are only 10 MISB heman and jetsled left in the world and they sell for 10k a piece
that’s just an example, I know the comparison isn’t the same

So if you guys can give me feedback on the price or the rarity, it would help me a lot.

Hi Gert, good you’ve find your way to these boards. I think you sure scored a gem. Like i said i 've never seen a Rainbow stinger before. About the value, prices are subjective and something is as much worth as someone want to spent for it. But Stinger is a fragile and wanted figure, and the fact that you have a rare card will increase its value. Maybe some other rainbow stingers will pop up later. Maybe there’re collectors who are not aware that they have a stinger on a rainbow card in their collection. Who knows? Now about the fact that madbubbler is not pictured on the back of your card, i just check my rainbow driller and i have the same pic. So i guess that Blackie is right that these were later card releases when they knew that the madbubbler wouldn’t make it into production.

So what your saying is your stinger has the 2nd Rainbow logo and the words Otis Simon on the package?

Otto Simon has nothing to do with Rainbow Toys. It sounds like he has a UK card, that had been imported into the Netherlands at some point. I think my Rainbow Toys Tygra has a dutch sticker on too. So I guess it wasn’t uncommon for UK stock to be sold in mainland Europe as well.

It is indeed an Otto simon import sticker like Blackie said.

I UNDERSTAND that, and that is why i am asking…there was mention of Otis Simon earlier in the thread, didnt make sense to me…as i have never seen both on one package.

These aren’t specifically difficult to find with the first Rainbow logo on them…not trying to rain on anyone’s parade…now if it was the later Rainbow logo or Otis Simon on the package, that would be a whole different story…

Well, i’m not sure about that. I’ve seen dozens Drillers and stingers passing by in toy shops and ebay, but never seen these figures on Rainbow cards. Maybe i must have missed the others.
The dutch toy importer is called Otto not Otis mate :wink:

Offcourse I did some research too and couldn’t find any like mine.

Never been sold on ebay before and never has a photo been post because google pictures hasn’t got any of stingers like mine (UK card, no MB pic and imported by Otto).

Plus it is in an amazing condition so I still made an awesome deal and purchase.

If someone else has one or knows about one please let me know but untill then I consider this to be very rare :slight_smile:

I have a feeling the Rampagers were only ever released in the UK, on cards with the first logo. By the time the second logo releases were coming out, ThunderCats were winding down in the UK. I believe most of the figures released on second Rainbow Toys logo and Toy Options cards were leftovers. I’ve never seen the more popular series 3 figures (Lynx-O, Bengali and Pumyra) on these later cards either.

I just let my wife open up my stinger as the card was say 5/10. I didnt have the heart to do it.. Lol

Gutted i never. She said she enjoyed opening such a rare figure, lol…

I don’t recall ever seeing Stinger in the shops. I did see Driller once at Woolworths in Redcar, England in the summer of 1989. I remember as we were on holiday before I started primary school. I still regret not getting Driller that day, I picked a battery robot instead.
