Mattel doesn’t have the line, none of this is confirmed, this is just a “What if” list based on how I think things would play out in the event that they do obtain the license.
Pros:
- A new Thundercats line!!! (finally after 20 years!)
- very likely several characters get released for the first time (Lunataks,
Mandora, maybe even Mad Bubbler) - Mumm-Ra would finally be released with his cape and a halfway accurate
head piece! - figures have increased articulation and poseability
- figures bear more resemblance to their show counterparts (the vintage line
wasn’t bad here either).
Cons:
- All capes will be plastic, not material (this will greatly devalue the
poseability of Jaga, but also a bummer for Mumm-Ra as well) - Lion-O & Mumm-Ra’s eyes won’t light up
- There will be no ‘Battle Matic’ action (no action features of any kind for
any figure) - Line will likely be a cookie cutter from MOTU Classics w/o its own unique
identity (i.e. nothing to distinguish it from MOTU & DC classics, and likely
done with as little new tooling as possible & will have high reuse of parts
from one or both of those lines) - First 6-12 figures will likely only be offered ‘Day of sale’, i.e. no subscription
until the viability of the line is confirmed. Meaning you have to get there
at noon on 15th of every month and fight amongst people ordering other
figures on those days to try to get one.
There you have it, my pros and cons based on what I’ve seen with the MOTU Classics line (which in all likelyhood is what the Thundercats line would follow). In all honesty after discovering Hot Toys, that would be my first company of choice to get the line. This in all likelyhood has about a 0.0001% chance of happening. It would mean a very, very scaled down offering to probably just the core important figures at very high prices. But the level of detail and stuff they offer with their figures is just incredible. Mattel is my #2 choice and would be more suitable for a much more expanded line.
