Could someone plz upload a price guide as to how much we should be paying ?
There really isn’t a “price guide” for these figures. The best way to gauge how much a figure is worth is to “watch” eBay. This will give you a general feel for how much items are worth, or at least how much people are willing to pay for them. Remember though we are in a down market and items are selling for much less then usual.
Obviously the “holy grail” items always sell for more, but even those are down.

Yeah, that’s why it needs updated. But, the market fluctuates. (sp?) When I was going after a Snowman, you couldn’t find one for under $25. Now, the prices are back down to what the Price Guide says. Go figure.

I’ve been compiling prices to update the list. It’s just crazy! Prices are all over the place. Also, it seems the orange Lion-O is rarer? I always thought red was. I just recently got an Orange one.
Please also include the laser saber mocs which are now known. I’ve sold the only one so far a Bengali for 3200 us dollars. The lion-o and mummra are still up for sale with robimus prime-I’d say they should be the same value As the one I sold.

Actually, the 3 Laser Saber figures were first sold at about $150 USD. Technically the cost-averaged price of the Laser Saber Bengali is about $1,675. I don’t think it’s prudent to include the Laser Saber figures in the price guide. With figures that are that rare, the market determines the price once they’re up for auction, rather than a price guide. Robimus’ LS figures have been up on eBay for several months and to my knowledge he has not received any offers over $1,000. The $3,200 received for your figure may have been on the steep side, but again, with figures that are that rare, the buyers in the current market determine what the figure is actually worth (should the owners decide to part with them).

I keep a spreadsheet on all my figures and value for insurance purposes, I saw this thread so I thought it might be helpful. Keep in mind I unfortunately bought on a higher crest of the market a majority of my stuff so a lot of the values I put are 25-40 percent high now. All are MOC or MIB, boxes are open unless noted but cards are sealed. I’ve turned down 1500 on Ben-Gali and 2000 for the Lion-O/Mumm-Ra set. It would have to be close to asking price for me to sell them. When I get some more pics I’m going to change my auction to all 3 for $9,999. See Robimus’s list is another example of just how much the value of our beloved Thundercats have come down over the last few months, obviously due to the economy. I have seen some 8 backs (Jackalman, Slithe) sell for as little as $40.00 recently.
I think the main thing to keep in mind is how much an item is worth to us as collectors, vs how much it is going for on eBay. Right now many collectors are not buying, which means less demand from top dollar buyers which = less value.
I recently picked up a case fresh MOC Stinger for $200.00. Never would I have thought I could get that piece in that condition for that price, but there you have it. And to think that 3 years ago I paid $140 for a MOC Hachiman. That’s just a $60 dollar difference between a “common, less in demand” piece, VS one of the holy grail items. A true testament to just how much things have changed.
Also, a lot of people are saying “Just wait until the movie comes out”, expecting prices to sky rocket again sorta like when the cartoon resurfaced on Toonami. I am holding on to a few duplicates I have to sell for when this happens, to try and get the most out of them, but if the movie comes out and the economy is still in a funk, who knows whats going to happen.
Perhaps what we could do for the price guide is put down two values. 1. The average going price for the item online (eBay), and 2. The price an item could potentially expect to sell for in a good economy. Just a thought.
Absolutely, if you take out the 5 ultra-rare figures that make up a majority of my “value” I would be lucky to get 5k in return selling it today. Just look at Manny’s ebay auctions and Luketommo’s 8 back Mumm-Ra at a steal buy it now price out for 10 days and no action. But just like real estate the valuable of tangible items is going to make a comeback. Scarcity equals long term value, and they aren’t making anymore packaged Thundercats (with the exception of justcotto…) I didn’t get my collection for an investment though, I got it because I always wanted some of these things that I’ve got in the past year and had an opportunity to do so. Regardless of the economy end of it I’m happy.

I’m the same way with my collection. Its for my own personal enjoyment. I only plan to sell it when I am an old prune and want the money for my “last hoorah”, maybe a cruise with tons of naked chicks and plenty of viagra, something like that.

Right now Im moving my Thundercats funds into something that could appreciate greatly in the future while giving me the ability to weather a financial catastrophe if it were to happen. The economy is not good now and if the market decides to totally crash and we hit a 29’s type of depression i knoe ill be able to stay afloat for a very long time

Hey Kyle, that Cruncher MOC was an AFA 80, so $160 for a typical MOC Cruncher is a complete anomaly. Also, I think the 8-back should be differentiated from the later series and I think one of the discrepancies in the loose figures is whether they are complete or not. Let me know if you’d like me to look over your lists before you post the official ones. I’ve been watching Tcats on eBay and several online stores for the last 7+ years and consider myself well versed in what most figures are worth.
Manny - I think we’ll be ok. One of the problems back in the late 20’s/early 30’s is we didn’t know how bad it could possibly get and we weren’t versed in preventative measures that could’ve been taken. Most major investment banks have already collapsed upon themselves, GM is going to have to file chapter 11 and the UAW will have single-handedly killed the US auto industry and we’re still afloat. Our ~8-9% unemployment is uncharacteristically high, but the American people have a strong entrepreneurial spirit and work ethic. We’ll rebuild better & stronger.
Ever thought about what will happen with the trillions of dollars getting pumped into the sytem to save these companies. Its like fighting fire with fire…printing more money to “save” the market. For once in my life Ive come to realize that paper assets mean nothing, dollar included and all.
