A couple of years back, I did a pencil portrait of Mr. Larry Kenney and mailed it to him. I was extremely happy and honored when he wrote back to me saying that he loved it and even has it hanging on his office wall. What more could a fan ask for? He truly is one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet. Here is the portrait that I did:

“Lordore”: I have always loved to draw and paint since I was young. I occassionally do artwork for payment, but I’ve never considered myself an “artist” as I feel that the term “artist” should be used for people who are truly masters in the field. Wilycab, your watercolor paintings are really great, and i am not complimenting you just to say something.
Your work reminds me of the realistic look in Kingdom Come and Marvels by Alesx Ross. Actually it is the first time i see Thundercats illustrated in gouache, i think this is how this opaque method is called, and is hoenstly very cool. i suggest you just send your work to a publisher just to have a look at them.You don’t have anything to lose, i was wondering did you use a real person to inspire your drawings for the characters? Alex Ross had some of his friends to pose for him in order to draw the super heroes, so it was more realistic.

Thank you, Lordore. I’m flattered that you compared my work to Alex Ross. I’ve always been a huge fan of Ross and my style is partially inspired by his. I used to work in the comics field for some years and I did send samples of my work to major publishers including DC and Wildstorm (who published the Thundercats comics) but no luck. However, I did end up working for a number of different small comic publishers and enjoyed the experience very much. I did these paintings because I wanted to see how the TCats would look if they were done in Alex Ross’ realistic style since he has never illustrated them (except for one cover). I actually wanted to do all the characters but never got the time to do more than the four. Maybe one of these days I’ll get around to doing some more. Thank you once again for the kind words.
