Pop Culture Shock wants to give away a Lion-O statue

Wow, that’s at least a $400 retail value. Let’s see what we can come up with on this.

Could I ask each team member to drop into that thread and thank Jerry for answering all the questions in the interview? I’d like to show this appreciation to Jerry to show him that we’re an active forum base and an interested team. Doesn’t have to be a speech but a quick drop into that thread and a thank you would be great.

Cheers,
Grizz

Chris here…

Hey Mark, this is awesome stuff you’re setting up here! I’ve dropped by the thread to say thanks to Jerry!

Is Jerry after ideas for the contest giveaway? If so, could I suggest that maybe a good idea would be to somehow tie-in the contest with some sort of market research for Pop Culture Shock - e.g., a “Which character would you like Pop Culture Shock to produce next” thread with a random drawing of a forum member who posts on there to win the Lion-O!

In this way, it would make Pop Culture Shock look like we’re interested in helping them, at the same time as giving our forum members the chance to win a free Lion-O statue! Everybody plays, everybody wins!

Take care…

That’s such a cool idea! I like it

That’s a great idea for sure… let’s keep more ideas coming guys… I like the direction Chris is heading in but let’s be as creative as possible with a give away.

I was thinking we could invite statue makers and custom toy makers to submit their Lion-O versions and have Jerry and his team pick the best one for a prize, or have a vote on it.

Let’s keep throwing the ideas up here as I really want to get something energizing to put forward. That’s an expensive prize fo’ shizzle!

Chris here…

My only problem with this idea is that it severely limits the number of TCL forum members who would be able to take part - obviously you could throw it open to statue makers and toy sculptors / customisers from outside of this site, but IMO what you’d be doing then is diluting the direct connection between the competition and this site - the only way you could get over that being if Jerry sent us the statue and it was a case of us (ThunderCats Lair) then giving it away…

I’ll put my thinking cap on and see if I can think of some more ideas!

Take care…

Cool, let’s throw as many ideas up as we can without any regard to the drawbacks of the idea… we can cut out the ideas that are weakest later on for now I’d love to see some creative juices flowing and put a bunch of ideas up, sometimes the best ideas come from reading an average idea and taking it to a different level.

Chris here…

Throwing out some random suggestions here!

  1. A “fan creation” contest - not limited to statues or custom figures, but also fan art, fan fiction, or anything creative. Fans could go for those or something more original such as poetry, art-and-craft type stuff, photography, or whatever!

  2. A “What I love best about ThunderCats” thread with a random drawing - perhaps some market research for PCS?

  3. A “What I love best about ThunderCats Lair” thread with a random drawing - because it would be great stroking for our egos!!

  4. A “What I love best about Chris (He-Fan)” thread - OK, now I’m getting silly…

Personally I think no.1 is probably the best idea of those - fans have to make some sort of effort to win the $400 statue, but it does allow people with different abilities, skills and aptitudes to enter, rather than just sculptors and customisers!

EDIT: Just wanted to add that this:

…is a very true and accurate statement - nice one, Mark!

Take care…

So guys I’d like to get back to Jerry about the contest idea. Thanks Chris, I think they’ll go for the idea of member submissions of any sort of T-Cat creative effort and then an award to the best one.

I think we should encourage custom statue and toy efforts, but that we’ll accept any fan creations. I’ll propose to Jerry that we’ll have him select the winner, but if he feels he won’t have the time we can just have members vote on it.

We’ll run the contest on the boards and I’ll publicize it on the other T-Cat sites and Facebook.

Cheers,
Grizz

Chris here…

Glad to be of help, and great to see this idea moving forward - I’m looking forward to seeing what our forum members come up with!

Take care…

Well guys it looks like we’re all set to get started. Jerry loved the idea and said that Lion-O will be ready to ship in Feb 2011.

Thanks for the idea Chris!
