playful argentina factory and figures

hi everyone,

i have recently purchased a ‘test shot’ thundercats figure prototype from argentina, i know the quality of these figures arent quite as good as the u.s or europe figures that were on offer, and the argentinan proto is substantialy less valuethan the u.s proto.

My new figure has the official ‘playful telepix 1986’ mark on the sole of the figure and i just wanted to know more about the company…

all i know thus far is the company has ceased trading a while ago but the only info ive got is:

‘PlayFul corp. fue fundada en 1986 por Gustavo Capusotto’ which roughly translates as ‘the playful corp was started in 1986 by Gustavo Capusotto’ i cannot find any address where they traded from or any other info!!!

can anyone shed light on this company?, where the toys were made?, an adderss? any thing.

many thanks to all you thundarians,

Starrcade.

Starrcade,

Unfortunately the “proto” that you have according to a very reliable source of ours is a bootleg. They have been on Ebay for quite a while and have been advertised as protos when they in fact are not. As far as the history of the company we will try to researrch this info for you

many thanks manny,

I figured that there was something dodgy about a prototype that only cost me $5.00, the guy should really say what it really is! anyway i still think its a ‘different’ thing to own if nothing else and thanks for helping me look for the address for the factory ‘playful’ in argentina.

…By the way, ive noticed a couple of shuttle guns on e bay too, one boxed, abit tatty and the other loose, ive also been looking on MercadoLibre.com the south american e bay, theres some stuff from glasslite from brazil- a moc cheetara but my spanish and portuguese arent that good so i havent made an attempt to register, anyhow, many thanks.

Sorry about your deal on that monkian. It was made in Mexico and there is a mumm-ra that was made there also (all light green and red no paint or anything). I can find my playful carded thundercats and see if they have the address on them if you want it.

I hear your pain on the south american ebay sites. Ive been trying to work them for a while. I’m registered (i think) at brazil and possibly argentina, but cant figure out how to bid after hitting the comprar button, so it is frustrating cause I could get stuff I need a lot cheaper that way.

Hi Matt,

That would be really helpful if you could find the address for me, im annoyed now that its from mexico, i thought playful was from argentina, although mexico are notorious for bootlegging absolutely everything!

on the south american e bay you could translate the page if you type it in on google? …is a shame to miss out on some rare stuff!!

thanks for now,

Playful is from Argentina. I dont know how Mexico ended up making bootlegs with Playful stamped on the feet. Those Monkian’s pop up on ebay every so often.
I looked on my carded Playful Topspinner (he’s the only one as I would have had to dig the rest out) for the company address. It wasn’t printed on the card, just like it’s not printed on the LJN release of Topspinner I have moc (while it was on the Rainbow moc Hammerhand). This is what was on the back of the Topspinner 1985 Telepictures Corporation, Leisure Concept, Inc, and Ted Wolf all rights reserved. Thundercats and characters are registered trademarks. Made in Argentina.
I am left to assume it is not on the back of the Playful cards. I could be wrong though as I did not look at the other ones. Blackiecats might know the address as he wrote the section on foreign releases (if I’m not mistaken). Sorry I could not be more helpful.

Unfortunately I don’t have Playful’s address as I don’t own any Playful carded figures yet. Most of the information on that page is pretty common knowledge, anything that isn’t I got from Andrew McCabe. Sorry I can’t help any further.

many thanks guys for looking!
