I don’t think the Claw Shield ever had an origin given - IIRC, it was never seen in “Exodus”, it just turned up in “The Unholy Alliance” with no explanation given as to where it came from!

Hmm, kinda like Vultureman and his Flying Machine. I guess some things need no introduction 
Well, in the Thundercats first comic book, that is available here at TLC, that tells the Exodus history, you can see on page 6 that when Jaga gives the Thundercats their suits and weapons, that the claw shield was below Lion-O’s outfit, so I assume that it has the same origins and Panthro’s Nunchaku, Tygra’s Bolo Whip and Cheetara’s Staff, i.e., it was the chosen weapon for each Thundercat at that time.
Since it is mostly a “defensive weapon” (Claw shield) it was supposed, in my opinion, to be the best weapon for Lion-O, who was still a cub and had to defend himself in an strange environment of Third Earth.

Well I do agree to an extent as his appearance could have been explained a bit more, however the episode of Vultureman’s origin ‘Lord of the Snows’ comes directly after The Spaceship Beneath The Sands where the mutants manage to salvage some of their technical equipment. Therefore I think we are meant to assume that the Mutants called in their mutant armies (as seen in later episodes, I think from Fireballs of Plundarr where we see a reptillian guard frightened by Bushy the tree spider) At this time they probably also called in Vultureman. However this doesn’t explain how they arrived and if they came in a spaceship, then what happened to it?
But that’s how I always assume what happened.
As for the Claw Shield, I definately agree that it could have had an origin in Exodus, at the same time Jaga handed the other Thundercats their weaponary.
Yeah I definately agree with Vintage. I think that’s an excellent explanation of when and why Lion-o got the Claw Shield!

Just to follow up on that line of thinking, here’s a tidbit of info about the episode “Exodus” - to quote myself from our “Exodus” Episode Guide page:
In the original script for this episode, when bestowing the ThunderCats’ new weaponry and clothing, Jaga actually takes the items out of a veiled cabinet and hands them, in a regular fashion, to each ThunderCat. In the scene originally planned, Jaga then waves his hand and the clothing the ThunderCats are holding is then mystically placed on their bodies. Whilst this was replaced with the abbreviated scene everyone remembers, the concept of showing a cabinet containing the ThunderCats’ clothing and weaponry survived into Marvel Comics’ adaptation of this episode in #1 of the first US ThunderCats comic series.

Yea, but where did it come from before Jaga gave it to lion-o? I mean is it like a real arm from a feline-type creature or what? Speaking of that…WHO WAS THUNDERA AND WHY IS HER/HIS EYE EMBEDDED IN THE SWORD OF OMENS?
