so tygra is claudus’s love child? or was he adopted? if he wasn’t adopted then he’s actually a liger (lion father and a tiger mother) and not a tiger, and they should really call him lygra.
on the show itself i thought it was great. it was a really nice touch having a lizard help in lion-o’s escape. i like how there not depicting all the lizards as evil. also mumm-ra’s voice was awesome.
I saw it 3 times already. I have to say that the series live up to it’s much awaited expectations & far exceeded them. All the character were portrayed Brilliantly & I’m guessing that there’s going to be alot more development as the story progresses. Watching Grune take on Claudus was one of my favorite moments. Absolutely love the Battle armor design on Grune.
Judging from how much the makers love this show I’m certain we’ll see the rest of the cast like Ben-Gali, Pumyra & all. There’s a whole world that Lion’0 has yet to discover & i think it’ll be an Amazing journey.
Coming to Mum-Ra, I wasn’t that pleased with the entrance, but I completely love the Super creey design. just wish his face was animated as well as it was in the old series but then again reserving judgement till i see more eps. Looks like they’ve switched the reflection weakness to the basic sunrise setting which was a bit disappointing.
I hope we get a new intro next week, with brand new animation rather than the ones Warner Bros usually use with most of their series by just having scenes from the shows. In anycase all hyped up for next week.
I was also wondering if Tygra was adopted or not, I was confused with it and the show don’t really explain to us his situation.
Luckily, I was surfing the web for more information about the show and it explains that Tygra is Lion-O’s adopted brother.
Also, I got an answer on why Wilykit and Wilykat have tails while the other thundercats don’t, They are of a lower class.
“Its been said by Word of God that there are two types of cat-people in Thundera, that being those who don’t have tails and those who do. Those who don’t are considered the upper-class, the elite. However, those who do are considered genetic freaks and mongrels, falling into the lowest tier of Thunderan society. Sadly, the Thunderkittens fall into the second category”
I adore the New thunderkittens so much :D, so looking forward to more of them.
I had a thought about Mumm-Ra and the whole sun thing and if I am correct even in the OS he could only take his super form at night and not during the day which would explain his sudden affliction to sunlight here as he was just about to transform when the sun came up and burnt his transformation.
Thoughts???
I think it’s clear that Tygra was adopted, they said he wasn’t part of the bloodline.
Every fan fiction I have ever read is far superior to the language and scripting that this show has. As for fanboy, I meant it is an all boy show from conception to execution. For example, all the older characters are of the warrior type. How dull. Do you think this Tygra could build a Cats’ Lair? I think not. He has not been shown to have much of a brain. A good example of lack of character depth also regards Tygra. He is taken with Grune’s praise, but when Grune turns out to be self serving, there is no spoken reaction to this, and barely an emotion registers on his face. The dialog is too polluted with the vernacular. Lion-o is a thoughtful character, but he is straight out of every modern TV show that makes youth synonymous with wisdom, and adults buffoons to be guided to the light.
In the original series, the characters were more mythic in that each was an archetype. That kind of character has staying power, like in the movie version of the Wizard of Oz, a true shamanic journey film. The stories of the original Thundercats series were geared toward kids, but operated on two levels, such that even older fans (I was 30 at the time) could enjoy. I’d take the original characters with an adult story line any day over what I saw on Friday. Pair that with the arrogance that has come across from some of the promotion videos on how much better this will be than the original series, along with lack of respect for the original, and I do not hold much hope for this series in being one I will care about. It will be an action/adventure shoot’em up (read all testosterone) with no deep backstory ever developed (are there no women in Claudus house, or are Lion-o and Tygra the result of spontaneous generation?).
Since primarily women have kept the Thundercats alive over the many years through fan fiction, it would have been nice to see some writing credits or production attributed to women. Maybe some will come in the future, but I tend to doubt it. I will watch the entire series, but unlike the original, this has not touched my heart.
For my dose of Thundercats, I will stick with the Thundering women who have always held the vision of sight beyond sight.

I saw one comic from Wildstorm, and threw it in the trash. So, agree there.

That’s the one thing I didn’t like about the new Mumm-Ra. His Lips! lol
As for his voice. I’m ok with it. I didn’t like it the very first time I heard it, but after repeated viewings it’s ok. But what He’s really missing is his laugh. You don’t really hear his cackle in this episode. Hopefully Robin Atkin Downes can give him a fittingly evil laugh.
Well, of course almost anyone who’s ever written fanfiction for almost 20 years might look at this and go, “Hmph. Well I could have done much better!” Like I said in one of my earlier posts, however, Ocelli and I had been kicking around a story of our own for over the last 10 years. We had written a few chapters but never finished it (We joked that it was our own “Chinese Democracy” or “Duke Nukem Forever”). The tone and feel that we had in mind, though, was along the lines of what we wanted this show to be. Now we don’t think we want to write it anymore as some of the ideas we had have since been used in other movies and shows. And now that there’s a real honest-to-goodness Thundercats that is now giving us the kind of show that we really wanted to see, that’s kind of the final nail in the coffin for it.
The thing I find interesting is that a majority of the fans really seem to like this show, whereas we got ripped for our own story. Though to be fair we may have strayed a bit too far by emphasizing the Space Opera aspects of it, but we felt back then that that was the logical place for the series to go if this were to be a continuation. Doing a reboot/reimagining though was probably the best route as you didn’t have to deal with all the baggage and inconsistencies the old show had; you could start from scratch and not have to worry about fans nitpicking because it’s understood that you’re starting over from the ground-up. Speaking only for myself, seeing as how this was the kind of thing we had envisioned for our story, I kind of felt vindicated. You can call it trite or uninspired or whatever, but the apparently our idea of what we wanted out of Thundercats and yours differ. But that’s okay. I just don’t want you thinking lesser of those that do like it just because we disagree on it. Because that’s how I’ve usually seen these kinds of discussions tend to go (i.e. Transformers fans hating on the people who liked the Michael Bay movies.)
As for fanboy, I meant it is an all boy show from conception to execution. For example, all the older characters are of the warrior type. How dull. Do you think this Tygra could build a Cats’ Lair? He is taken with Grune’s praise, but when Grune turns out to be self serving, there is no spoken reaction to this, and barely an emotion registers on his face.
Keep in mind again that this is a re-imagining. So it’s to be expected that some of the characters are going to be somewhat different. No, I don’t expect this Tygra to be the same that would build the Cats’ Lair (apparently Lion-O’s going to get credit for that here). But also, he’s a very different character than that Tygra. And I think that’s a good thing. I considered the original Tygra to be a very bland, nondescript character. Sure, he built some things, but that was about all there was to him…that and that he seemed to have a penchant for getting himself addicted to things. But there just wasn’t a whole lot about him to me that made him stick out as a character, whereas the new Tygra did.
The dialog is too polluted with the vernacular. Lion-o is a thoughtful character, but he is straight out of every modern TV show that makes youth synonymous with wisdom, and adults buffoons to be guided to the light.
I personally liked the dialogue. No it may not have been Joss Whedon or Kevin Smith (two people whom I would have liked to have seen tackle a new Thundercats show), but I was still happy with it. It felt a lot more natural and flowing rather than the stilted and forced dialogue of the old show. I used to blame it on the voice actors themselves. But once I saw how good Larry Kenney’s performance as Claudus was here versus his performance as Lion-O on the old show, I found that the blame was actually with the writers. Just as an example, Natalie Portman’s a great actress, but you’d never know it from hearing her spout George Lucas’ clunky dialogue in the Star Wars prequels.
As for Lion-O, when you consider that the old one was a thick-headed, immature and annoyingly self-righteous doofus, I’ll take the new one over the old any day. The old Lion-O I couldn’t buy into as a hero that anyone could identify with or get behind. This one however I can. He isn’t perfect, no. But he’s still got those admirable qualities that a hero should have. It’s shown in the show, however, that he still has some ways to go yet before he can become a true leader. Personally I would have liked it if he were a bit more arrogant and self-centered. But I realized that if they went that way, it would have made him too unlikable. So I’m happy with how he is in this version.
In the original series, the characters were more mythic in that each was an archetype. That kind of character has staying power, like in the movie version of the Wizard of Oz, a true shamanic journey film. I guess this is a testament to how people can see the same thing and each come away with perception that is totally different. Where you saw archetypes, I saw cardboard cut-outs. But maybe again, as I indicated in one of my earlier posts, age may have a lot to do with how one perceives things. I was 14 at the time and you were 30. And at that age I was looking for something more substantial in my entertainment, as well as something edgier (I was getting into Heavy Metal music back then, and watching animated movies like…uh…“Heavy Metal”) I guess maybe because of where you were in your life, maybe you saw it differently. All I can say is this was more or less the kind of show I hoped Thundercats could have been all those years ago. And I’m happy that I’m now finally getting it.
Since primarily women have kept the Thundercats alive over the many years through fan fiction, it would have been nice to see some writing credits or production attributed to women. Maybe some will come in the future, but I tend to doubt it. I will watch the entire series, but unlike the original, this has not touched my heart.

I’m sure that there’ll be some women writers on the show. But keep in mind that CN is going for a demographic here, and for better or worse, TCats is identified as a male-oriented property (the toys were geared towards boys after all). I’ve read some of your work, and while it’s good, its definitely not the kind of material that the makers of this show would want to invest in if they wanted to attract a primarily male audience (Again, it’s CN we’re talking about here. Not Lifetime). I’m just saying.
I’m sorry it’s not the Thundercats show you wanted it to be. But that’s fine. Like I said, I knew this wasn’t going to please everyone. But I just don’t ask you to begrudge those like me who do enjoy it.
It’s not that it can’t be mystical, it’s that I see the execution in that one instance as being more technical than a poof of sparkly smoke. If it ends up being explained that it is mystical, I won’t complain.
I think technically, that Claudus and Tygra both were trying to make Lion-O the best he could be. Tygra critisized Lion-O for his fantasizing about technology because in his mind, for Lion-O to become the best he could be, it would be to let go of such fantasies. But there are some hard feelings in Tygra because he sees himself as being more qualified for the position of Lord of the ThunderCats. And he is very protective of Lion-O, just like the original Tygra was. It’s a complicated relationship. I think Tygra will lose those hard feelings with time.
I didn’t see really disrespect of elders in the show. ![]()
This question has been answered for quite some time now. Tygra is adopted.
One thing I must admit about Mumm-Ra, who’s unimpressive voice-wise, he accomplished more in few minutes than he ever did in OS.
And did anyone noticed that they didn’t use the actual footage for the sword scene with Lion-O and instead replaced it with the one with blue background? In the first or second trailer you clearly see at the end him doing the thunder call and unleashing its power using with background that matches the actual scene. Honestly that would have been well suited instead of doing it the like the old show.
I just couldn’t pass it up and not step in to pay my respects to the Thundercats revival. It wouldn’t be fitting to my passion and love for the show. So i asked permission from my General to let me out the camp for 2 hours in order to attend to a very important obligation, codenamed: Thundercats- Sword Of omens. My emotion flared up while inside the internet cafe, i caught my self crying in Larry Kenney’s '‘Thundercats HOOO’ as well as in the Will Friedie’s ‘Thunder, Thunder. Thundercats HOOOO’. It’s far better and brilliant than i had bargained for back in the announcement days. One huge Thanks to the producers and creative team.
They have done what they ought to do with the Thundercats sage and rich legacy.
I really wish i had the time to analyze the new show as it deserves it and as i would normally do here in the forum, but unfortunately i have to go back… IN a nutshell, the new Thundercats is beyond epic and calling it merely great doesn’t do justice. Even though some things don’t remind us to the original, my long time infatuation and expert ism in the Thundercats world tell me the first 43 minutes have paved the way for a mature, multifarious and groundbreaking Thundercats story, something that we all wished for in the first place and on top of that we all felt deep down it was missing from the original… the main core and nature of the show is still intact but given the modern standards of cartoon making it has been enriched in the best possible way.
My friends rejoice, i really wish i could take part in the forum’s discussion.
I felt the Magic and heard the Roar once again…Honestly i can’t express how happy i am right now..:liono
I will come back as soon as possible.
Take care TCL team and all my thundermates
Yeah I agree that Mumm-ra has done better than ever.
He kills Claudus
He kills all but 2 of the clerics with one blast
Plus he is clearly pulling the strings and taking the decisions
All of that in his old mummy form only!
I loved him sitting on claudus’ throne hehe, Clearly a I’m the boss signal towards Grune and Slythe
I also love the new more realistic voice he has. When I watch the old show now I get sick of cheetara,mumm-ra and Vultureman. Technically speaking it were great voices but please don’t let them do a speech or so hehe
My statements are simply my opinions, like that of others. Perhaps they are harsh because I expected to see more depth, when the constant touting for this series was “We are going to be so much better,” and anime can often deliver on this promise. If I knew nothing of the original series, I would have watched the first two episodes and wondered, for example, What is a Thundercat? Is it a member of the city? Is it a Noble? Is it a special breed? No clarity there. Why do all the background cats look alike. Why are the special royal guards called “clerics”, a term usually to denote a priest, and if so, what is the religion they espouse.
The Thundercats 2011 is for a “primarily male audience” indeed. In the end, we will see which series stands the test, not of time, but of the heart.

Not to mention that unlike the old show, one blast from the sword didn’t send him fleeing back to his pyramid. I always found that lame how they never acutally fought that much in the old series. This looks like its going to be very different.
I’ve got to agree, to a point at least, with nine tiger, the show needs to explore what the terms mean, hopefully it will, it still has the space to do that. It was a fun show and the villain seems extra strong, but I’m not sure it can inspire the passion of the original.
Hey Lordore! I’m glad you got the chance to see the new show! ![]()
I really don’t see why Tygra is considered such a huge jerk. Yes, he surely has a high opinion of himself but his teasing/snarking at Lion-O is something I did to my younger brother growing up. It’s all in good fun. The problem isn’t Tygra’s boasting, it’s the fact that Lion-O thinks/knows that others do believe it. Should Tygra be more aware of Lion-O’s fellings? Perhaps, but I doubt Lion-O has stopped and considered Tygra’s point of view either.
As for the Tygra/Grune connection, didn’t Grune say something along the line that Tygra reminded him of himself at that age? Wonder if that’s something Tygra will wrestle with down the road.
@ NineTiger
I perfectly understand what you’re trying to say bvut I think it’s really premature after only 2 episodes. I reckon we will get alot of explanations later on, at least that’s what the producers promised us. They promised story arcs and things well get explained later on.
There is only so much you can put into 2 episodes. It will delve deeper in the mythology.
If they do not do that, I agree it’s a missed opportunity but I hope in that case at least the fights will be good, because I can enjoy that alone too.
I think the new show has a lot of potential, but I was extremely disappointed in the way Tygra is being depicted. I understand that he is not going to be exactly like the original series, but I found him really unlikeable here and not very intelligent. It almost seems like they reversed the character traits between him and Lion-O. Lion-O now seems to be calm and pretty mature for his age. Is he going to learn anything, because so far he seems to be right about everything which is kind of annoying. I’d like to see him being taught some things by the other Thundercats.
On the plus side I really liked Cheetara and the Clerics, Larry Kenney’s Claudus, Lynx-O’s cameo and Mumm-Ra disguised as Panthro. Oh yeah and the Thunderkittens were a lot of fun.
