I found it odd too. Panthro should have gotten a feel that Grune wasnt so loyal to the crown, I guess since Grune wasnt a big threat cause he didnt have the followers or back up so he didnt took him so seriously.
Hmm… I just rewatched it. Lion-O’s tone of voice and facial expression, body language, all tell me that he already knows what thundrillium is. If he’s been sneaking around trying to learn about technology for awhile, he’s probably heard about it. That would be believable.
Tygra didn’t seem to have any interest in bothering Panthro. Maybe his psych abilities told him Panthro wanted to be left alone but I’m sure it was Panthro’s words and actions that made that clear. Tygra and Cheetara were only hanging around because of Lion-O. I also don’t think Tygra really cares that much about technology and I don’t think Cheetara cares much either so I don’t think they really cared what thundrillium was.
Just a thought.
If I were in the middle of nowhere and someone I trusted came out of the dark with a Kick ass Tank then said he needed a Samoflange to get it working properly and he knew right where to get one I probably say Ok lets go. then perhaps along the way I might ask but then I might not since it would all seem like Voodoo to me anyways. Just the fact that he needs it and knows where to get it would be good enough for me.
They can ask what is samoflange but cant for thundirilium?(I know it was part of the joke but still) atleast ask him how he knows about it or something…

That was my joke. 
I was joking about Tygra having psych abilities but then pointed out he wouldn’t have needed them because Panthro was very obvious.
Another thought regarding the episode…
When Grune and Panthro entered Mumm-Ra’s pyramid, I was so totally flashing back to Stargate SG-1 and the spaceship pyramids. I wonder if Mumm-Ra has a worm attached to the base of his skull who is sustaining him with unnatural long life… :p;)
The way I took that scene where Grune says he’s going to be king, I think Panthro just thought he was joking.
As for Mumm-Ra’s pyramid, I wonder how he got trapped in his own chamber. It looks as though he rejuvenates through technological means instead of magical. Maybe one of the ancient Thundercats sabotaged his chamber while he was resting.
If I were to take a guess, he was imprisoned there by ThunderCats and now he is seeking his revenge.
lol! we might even see sg1 coming through a stargate and land in Thundera haha Tealc and Pantro would become pals right away hehe
it was funny when Tygra teased Lion-o to ask Panthro if he needed help or if he was too scared to approach him, and when Panthro wondered how they managed so far w/o adult supervision hehe
I liked the episode. The parts with the backstory between Panthro and Grune, as well as Panthro not willing to accept Lion-O as king right away were interesting.
Great Episode!
Watching the west coast broadcast (I love Dish Network), and I noticed that in one scene, you can see the “Thunder-racer” cycle mounted inside one of the Thundertank’s claws. I like that they have details like that ready to go when the time comes.
Anyone else love the part when Cheetara says she thought Panthro would be less spiky. I loved that, that right there is why Cheetara’s my favorite.
Ok. Time to sit back with a Coke-flavored Slurpee and a Slim Jim and see what’s what…

Heh. :D[/li][li]A little disappointed the twins sat this one out, but understandable.[/li][li]One of the joys of a reboot is that you get to reinvent characters from the ground-up. And this show’s Panthro is another great example. It always felt a little weird to me how Lion-O would just give an order and the other Thundercats would just agree with him 'cause that’s what they do. I had always wanted to see a Thundercat who wasn’t so quick to accept Lion-O’s heritage at face value and even openly question it. We created a character in our story named Xendara of that reason, as we felt the other Thundercats were too well-established and she could say things that they couldn’t. (Ironically enough, she hooks-up with Panthro!) To basically see Panthro doing the same thing here was just awesome. :)[/li][li]Cool to see a full-scale Thundrillium mining operation. Yep, I always wanted to see it treated as a major energy source like this. Interesting that Mumm-Ra needs it to power his army. Read further down for more speculation on this.[/li][li]The flashbacks were very cool and enlightening. It was interesting also to see the younger Lion-O and Tygra. The scene where Panthro and Grune first meet on the battlefield was also neat, as it kind of reminded me of the battle of Osgiliath in The Two Towers.[/li][li]I know it’s been said before, but it’s really cool to see the Thundercats actually use their weapons in combat. And Panthro got to kick all sorts of Lizard ass here with his nunchucks.:)[/li][li]Kevin Michael Richardson is, to paraphrase James Brown, “The hardest-working man in voice acting” right now. Cleveland Jr. on The Cleveland Show, Bulkhead on Transformers: Prime, Roadblock on G.I. Joe: Renegades, and now Panthro. It’s as Panthro, though, that I think is his best work to date.[/li][li]Interesting that Grune was the one who actually frees Mumm-Ra. Considering the technological look of the pyramid, I have to wonder if Mumm-Ra’s power is actually derived from very advanced technology this time out rather than black magic in the OS? Remember Clarke’s law: “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.”[/li][li]The Driller was cool, and Lion-O’s fight with him was epic, albeit a little rushed. And yes, add me to the list of those who want Bandai to make a figure of him!:D[/li][/ul]
Again, another great piece of work. A half hour is just not enough for this show. It seems to go by too fast. Or maybe that’s just because I’m enjoying it so much!
I missed that, so looking at it, theres probably 2(1 in each claw) damn that Panthro! he didnt only built a tank but 2 bikes just in case hehe I guess he knew he would find some TC along the way to use it.

I didn’t get to really pay attention to the ep 'cause I was trying to answer my cousins questions. Once I get to rewatch it (HAIL DVR!) I can elaborate more. But overall I was extremely impressed by this ep!

Mumm-Ra’s pyramid seems like it may actually be a ship/stargate of some sort. Could it be that Mumm-Ra is extra terrestrial in origin from Third Earth?
Rate the Episode “Old Friends”
Finally we get a good helping of the new Panthro and the new Thundertank which was great. This episode was interesting as it helped to set up a lot of the back-story to the new series.
First off the Somoflange reference was pure gold and obviously inserted for us the longtime fans of the OS. Got quite a chuckle when Tygra asked what exactly a Somoflange is.
Secondly older meaner Panthro is badass and has quite a presence. I like the fact that he along with Grune was one of Claudas’ handpicked right hand men. The flashback scenes do a good job of setting up the fact that while Panthro was humble and loyal to the King that Grune was prideful and just wanted to take Thundera over for himself. That line about needing to be a Lion to be the king of Thundera was also revealing. Apparently other cats won’t do for the post.
I really loved the fact that they brought the old Driller back. I dug the new incarnation of him and how he towers over the other characters which makes him seem much more menacing and almost terminatoresque char.Too bad that the fight scene between him and Lion-O was so rushed.
I really don’t care for the way that Lion-O constantly expects and demands that everyone automatically follow his every command. I understand that he was next in line for the throne of Thundera but he also has yet to prove his mettle in any significant way. So I could understand why the other TCats would not immediately take a shine to him. Especially a crafty old veteran like Panthro. Lion-O really just comes off as a petulant little brat.
Finally it was very interesting to get our first views into what I have dubbed Mumm-Ra’s Techno-Pyramid. And that Grun was the one that ultimately freed him. The pyramid almost seems to be extra-terrestial in nature and could possibly contain a ship or some kind of warp gate.
Anyway I really enjoyed this episode because we are finally starting to get to the meat and bones of the series and I can see it only getting even better from here on in.

I’d give it a 9/10. This episode just seemed like a "Thundercats" episode in a way the past two episodes didn’t.
You know, that would be an awesome twist in his character. I actually wouldn’t mind if this happened Then again, I’ve always loved sci-fi, fantasy, aliens, and the like so
