I cant believe Seahawks beat the Saints yesterday! And Im hoping the Eagles go all the way to the Superbowl anyone watching the playoffs?
Seahawks will get theirs in Chicago. I’m really hoping the Ravens and the Jets find a way to win this weekend so its guaranteed to be a Superbowl I can actually watch (I hate both of those teams).
My 49ers are out of it, falling one game short again this year of making it (last season it was one fluke play away from winning the division), but if I had to pick a team I’m rooting for, its Green Bay because I like Aaron Rodgers.
I disliked GB back in the day because I didn’t like Farve (and yes I’ll spell his name like that), but I’ve got a ton of respect for Rodgers. He’s an elite QB who will be the best in the league in the next couple of years when Peyton and Brady start to decline.
So here’s hoping for a GB/Jets or GB/Ravens Superbowl.
I’m also a 49ers fan, tough decade…lol I was at the Rams game so I saw the last episode in the Singletary Error. Excited for a new offensive minded coach but it’s time for a new QB, Cam Newton maybe?
As for the teams actually still playing I think your final 4 is Pats/Steelers and Packers/Bears, Packers-Steelers super bowl with a Steelers victory.

Man I hope not. I’d much rather have Ryan Mallett. The latest mock draft on CNNSI I saw had them taking a corner I think? That is ludicrous IMO. They absolutely need a replacement at QB more than anything else because NONE of those guys on the roster inspire much confidence.
Newton strikes me as a little more mobile Jamarcus Russell. Big arm, 0 work ethic who thinks he’ll be able to make the same athletic runs he did in college.
The last guy who was fast and nimble enough to truly carry that mobility over to the pros was Vick.
I’d rather have a Big Ben, tall, prototypical pocket passer with a big arm with a work ethic. I think Mallett is that guy.
They have a couple of other QB options around the league: Vince Young, Kevin Kolb, whoever Denver doesn’t deem the starter between Tebow and Kyle Orton so they could potentially try to trade another pick for one of those guys. Honestly I’d prefer Mallett over any of them, but any of those others would be an improvement too. At the end of the day, need #1 they need to address (now that they got Harbaugh) is a QB.

I have to admit, I’m so happy the Jets won today. I hate the Pats, they cheat! If the Steelers lose, no problem, atleast the Jets then can go to the Superbowl. Hey, can you do me a favor and see if the Jets got to the Superbowl since Broadway Joe (aka Joe Nameth) My late father loved him and he loved the Jets…so for me, it’s a win-win situation.
I do know that Joe shocked everyone when he said they are going to win in the sixties.
I need to edit, thanks Grune! I’m glad you liked the pic. But look at it this way, if my Steeler’s loose, I’m going to have fun sketching Grune laughing at Lynxana. His character is so much easier to draw than I thought. I really enjoyed it. Also, it felt great to sketch again.

They haven’t been to one since Superbowl III. It was their only appearance. Theres just been so many (6 out of the last 9) Superbowls with either the Pats or Steelers going from the AFC that it’d be nice for a change of scenery (if you want to throw the Colts in, then its 8 out of the last 9, the lone exception coming in the 2003 Superbowl with the Raiders. I’m ok with the Colts though because I like Manning). Below is the breakdown for the AFC:

So really thats why I’m hoping for a Jets/Packers SB (although after thinking about it, the Jets/Bears SB would be intriguing, as it would be a matchup of two teams whose fanbases still cling to their lone Super Bowl wins and flaunt them as being the most important games in NFL history. It would be a matchup to determine which team’s fanbase could FINALLY let go of the past “glory” and have something more recent to celebrate).

I’m glad the Packers got in. For some odd reason, I really don’t care for the Bears, eh, perhaps it’s because of that SNL (Saturday Night Live) sketch with John Goodman that makes all Bear fans look like morons. So ever since that sketch, I always think of John Goodman going “Da Bears!”
One thing that makes the Packers good is that Brett Favre isn’t in there anymore, I can’t stand him…“I’m going to retire, oops, nope, I change my mind, I’ll stay” He’s way too old and it’s time for him to retire. Now he recently got injured in his last game and everyone knows he should retire. Even though the wiki on him (those are never accurate) said he filed official retirement paperwork for the NFL on January 17th, but until I see it finalized I’m still going to wonder if he’ll continue to make a fool out of himself. He reminds me of one of those guys that want to keep re-living their high school football days…almost like Al Bundy from “Married with Children”. LOL

Farve did file retirement papers. That went out over every major sports news outlet. I think he’s legitimately done this time. The only reason I think he ever kept coming back was the streak and the fact that he still played at a starter caliber up until this season. He threw for 2500 yards on guts alone though, and you’re usually good for 1 season of that before you’re done for good. I didn’t like him back in the day and I think he came back to try to pad some stats (although the lure of another SB ring I think was legitimate), but I can’t deny the career he’s had. Still, with virtually no team that could make the SB needing a QB and his streak now over, he really doesn’t have anything left to play for.
I was happy they gave Rogers the keys to Wisconsin though finally, and he’s absolutely proved that they made the right decision. He’s got another 10 years to be discussed in the top 2-3 QBs in the league.
I’m still debating on whether or not I actually want to watch the SB this year. I really don’t want to watch the Steelers win another ring, but GB is legitimate, Rogers is a better overall QB than Ben, and they have a talented defense.
Their point differential was actually better than the Steelers in the regular season. Total defense they’re virutally neck and neck (Steelers #2 in yard, GB #5). Steelers have a decisive edge in Rush Defense (by about 50 ypg), but Green Bay is a pass first team anyways so I don’t really think that’ll affect too much of their gameplan (Rogers threw for 3900 yards and accounted for 28 passing TDs. GB’s leading rusher only accounted for 3 rushing TDs this season, 1 fewer than Rogers did. Neither were close to 1000 yards). The Steelers do like to run the ball a bit more and have a more even split (Roethlisburger - 17 passing TDs, 3200 yards. Mendenhall, 1200 rushing yards, 13 TDs). So really I think it comes down to which holds up more, Steelers pass defense or the GB rushing defense. Steelers barely squeaked by two QBs that statistically and mentally aren’t on Rogers level. But, this by far is the best pass defense, statistically, that Rogers has faced.
I could go on for another couple of paragraphs on this so I’d better stop

Ryan Mallett was mentored up by the old Louisville coach Bobby Petrino, whose previous can’t miss prospect was local hero Brian Brohm. You might have recently spotted him stinking up the field for 3 interceptions in his last spot start for Buffalo, most likely his swan song in the league. Does this mean Mallett will also tank in the pros? Not sure, but the 49ers haven’t been much on drafting quarterbacks…really since Joe Montana so hopefully we are due. I liked watching Newton play this year, he’s like a bigger, stronger Tebow. But I agree Vick is the only current QB who makes running 10+ times a game work at the pro level now.

If you don’t watch the SB for the game it’s self, then you should atleast watch it for the commercials! That was always a problem for any game fan like myself…when do you want to go to the bathroom or the fridge?..during the game or during the commercial break?

I’d say that’s more the prospect than the coach/coordinator. You probably are aware of the Jeff Tedford stigma that was around the league. He’d coached some high profile, high pick busts like David Carr, Kyle Boller, Joey Harrington, oh and this one guy whose playing in the Super Bowl this weekend, Aaron Rogers.
Brohm if I recall wasn’t that big of a prospect draft wise (not saying he wasn’t big in Kentucky). So I checked (not pulling this from memory) and he went behind Matt Ryan and Flacco, in the second round of the 2008 draft. Not really someone I would consider a bust or can’t miss. Also I don’t know that Buffalo is really a fair gauge. They’re in the same category as the Browns/Raiders/Bungals/Lions. In other words, the awfulness of the team might be covering up his potential.
Mallett does have his weaknesses (mainly mobility), but I absolutely like him more as a pro than Cam Newton. Newton’s had 1 good season, which is a dangerous gauge. I think back to the Carolina Panthers in 1996 drafting Biakabutuka and passing on Heisman winner Eddie George. Biakabutuka, who had 1 spectacular season before leaving for the pros couldn’t stay healthy and was gone from the league in a few years. I don’t think I need to mention Eddie George’s credentials (but to say he was in the top 3 in career rushing yards and TD’s at OSU before leaving. A much better body of work for judgement. If the Madden curse hadn’t derailed his career, he was on the path to the Hall of Fame). I think Mallett has several Razorbacks passing records and he’s only been at the school two years. He had pretty incredible stats for both seasons though. He could be the next Tim Couch, but if the 49ers don’t trust him, they need a QB somewhere. I look around the league and I see:
Leinart, Kolb (the Eagles aren’t getting rid of Vick), Vince Young, Carson Palmer, likely McNabb too since the Skins are almost certainly going to cut him. You know its bad when Carr is your 3rd stringer. Really, they couldn’t have made a phone call to Testaverte or Bledsoe???
None of those would make me want to reconsider Mallett if they could get him. I just think he gives them the best piece to build around and possibly has the highest ceiling if under the right tutelage (which Harbaugh I am confident can turn him into a solid pro).
Aaron Rodgers should have been the top pick instead of Alex Smith obviously based on performance. I don’t care if the Niners take Mallett, Newton, Gabbert or even Locker as long as they give drafting a QB a shot. It’s clear neither of the Smith’s can get it done. I would love it if they could trade the pick and some others for Carson Palmer but the Bengals already said he would be their quarterback next year whether he liked it or not. McNabb is good but already been around 12 years, really not someone you can build around.
Brohm was spoken of as a top 10 pick ala Jake Locker in last year’s draft after our Orange Bowl win for the 2007 draft, but he slipped after coming back for his senior season under the awful and embarassing Steve Kragthorpe where he played well enough but the team managed to go from losing 1 to 6. Just seeing the recent evidence Andrew Luck is absolutely nuts to not go and get paid next year, even assuming there could be a lockout, because his stock is high now and he could get hurt next year and get nothing. If you can get the money you need to do so. On a much smaller scale, I joined the police department after 3 years of college because they were willing to hire me then. The purpose of going to college is to get a job, or at least it’s supposed to be, so if you can get the job you want you need to strike while the iron is hot. If the degree is that important to you take online classes and finish up, took me 3 years to finish one year worth but I was getting paid during that time! And obviously the money someone like that is getting the degree is irrelevant. I will say he probably has a great time at school and has his choice of pretty, smart girls on campus but he could have some nice parties at his mansion once he gets the signing bonus…What were we talking about again? lol
