I agree a lot of the supporting characters in the NS did fit in a lot better but to me it made the NS very generic and bland compared to the OS. When I was young I think one of the resons I loved it so much was the fact that it had so many characters in it from Samurais, pirates, robotic, demons, ghosts, aliens, mad scientists, wizards etc. By comparison it really added a lot of depth to Third Earth.
That’s probably the same reason I find it uninteresting. I’m not disagreeing with you, but I think the fact that it had all these various characters went beyond my suspense of belief because they were mainly just random characters that people liked in general, and very much in general. There was no stand-out side character that completely blew me away and most of them were just typical stereotypes of their own character. This works for that show because it was aimed towards a much younger crowd, so they attracted them by adding samurai, mad scientists, etc.
But I feel as if all the characters in the OS, including the main ones, we’re so incredibly static that it became hard for me to watch. But, once again, it wasn’t meant to be a cartoon with a lot of character development or story, so that was fine. The side characters in the NS were very dynamic because the rest of the characters are as well. I find these sort of characters much more entertaining.
I would have liked a lot of the OS characters to have had their back story explained more like Snowman, Turmagar and Hammerhand etc. I did find some of the NS characters very stereotypical aswell like the elephants especially. Not having these big over the top caracters I think really hurt the NS as a lot of their villians were quite bland in my opinion. There isn’t much wrong with the NS in general it’s just that it is so radically different from the OS, and whilst that isn’t a bad thing as such it was aimed at a different audience than it should have been.
What happened to the Mutants’ pet dog and Luna, that weird alien woman?
Dead. On a road. In another universe.
The “pet dog” was Mumm-Ra’s, not the Mutants’, and was named Ma-Mutt. I don’t think he’s been seen in the new series, but I could be wrong.
As for Luna, she and the rest of the Lunataks have so far not figured at all. Long may it stay that way.
