We were a bit late in reporting the death of Stephen Perry, so I wanted that news post to get some attention for a little bit.
I completed a recap news post of all the announcements from the past couple of days as well as a brief summary of the statue lines. I think most fans have heard the news already, so we’ll have ours up shortly. I’ll post the recap up in a couple hours.
I’ll be following the recap up with a more in-depth look at the announcements and what it means for us fans.
The site has a lot of content and news in the pipeline, just have to be patient a bit longer.
Does anyone think Third Earth will be involved this time? They could do a whole season on Thundara with all the political intrigue. That might be cool.
I think the fact that they are getting Larry to voice Claudus gives some assumption that Thundera is going to get more of the spotlight than the original series. We should ask Larry how many episodes he will be recording.
That would be neat but not a whole season. Personally, I would like to see the first few episodes on Old Thundera before it blows up. This way it wouldn’t be an exact duplicate of the original show. Now if they could throw in some of Thundera’s history and back stories of the Thundercats in there that would be great.
All the more reason to make Season 1 exclusive to Thundera. There’s great potential they could do for stories involving Grune as a younger but more destructive Thundercat, and even have Jaga as the leader through a 1st season’s worth of stories just on Thundera…capping it with the season finale of the escape right before Exodus.
Then, you have all of season 2 and a 3rd if it gets renewed to explore Third Earth. A perfect way to introduce new toys of other Thundarian characters (wait, as much as I hate how Bandai got the license…did I just say that? gags) and saving some series favorites both in the show and in the action figure line for down the road to flesh it out. Also, some of these characters could be written off in Season 1 so when Season 2 hits and Mumm-Ra is introduced, there isn’t character overload.
Speaking of character overload, I hope this time if they choose to introduce the Lunatacks, that they somehow either get rid of the Mutants entirely, or better yet, just leave the Lunatacks out all together. Too much character overload when the new Thundarians were brought in and the Lunatacks that you would go blocks of shows w/o seeing the Mutants at all, just because there was no room to write them in anywhere. The Mutants I thought were much better villains. The only Lunatacks I even cared for were Aluro and Chilla. Luna, Tug Mug, Amok, and Red Eye were…the equivalent of Cyclonus, Scourge and Galvatron from Transformers: inferior replacements to early season villains. I guess I’d be ok with them sticking around for a 5 part story arc, but instead of staying on as main characters, instead re-writing it to where they are banished back to Dark Side and write them off that way.
Finally, I’d love to see some of the Wildstorm characters implemented this time around in a similar fashion (5 part story arc), particularly from the Dogs of War story arc. Just the Dog characters though, not all of the new Thundarians that were introduced.

Unfortunately I’m going to have to wait for it come out on DVD because I don’t have cable TV. But I don’t mind because it’ll be worth the wait. As for the Cats’ appearance, it’s like I’ve said before: It’ll be a given that at least some aspects are tweaked to make them look more up-to-date. The same goes for Old Thundera; modernizing the buildings, ships, weaponry, and other equipment must be done so the series doesn’t look dated. And hopefully the stories will be more mature because they’ll be playing to older kids.
I can’t begin to tell you how overjoyed I am that Larry Kenney is on board for this new ThunderCats! But then he must be walking on air too! It would be nothing short of criminal to do the show without him; he is Lion-O. 'Nuff said!:liono
Hopefully they’ll have the other Cats too, including Snarf (sorry, Snarf-haters, but that’s how I feel. However we can do without Snarfer for the time being). Will Lynne Lipton being doing Cheetara and WilyKit? Will Peter Newman reprise Tygra, WilyKat, and Bengali? If Earle Hyman can no longer do Panthro, then who’ll be doing the voice? Will Lynx-O, Pumyra, and Jagara return? Will there be new ThunderCat nobles? And will we see Lion-O’s mother and any other family members he may have? Oh, I have so many questions!
As for the “Stones of Power” aspect, hey, no objections here just as long as they keep the Eye of Thundera!
And you know what else they can do? In honor of Steve Perry, they can create a new ThunderCat based on him. What do you think?
Actually, Catspat, CN is on iTunes U.S. (under TV Shows->Animation->Networks And Studios->Cartoon Network “CN” -all networks are alphabetical). Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Ben 10, Batman: The Animated Series are on there, so I’m quite sure ThunderCats '11 would be available for single eps and season passes. If one has Internet access, iTunes and an MP3 video player, it’s a better alternative than paying for cable or dish.
On that thought, it would be a win-win for WB to start offering the OS (original series) in its entirety before the new series becomes available; for us “old” fans and perhaps peak the interest of any possible new fans who want to get a head start on the subject of ThunderCats.
I don’t see why some fans are being so negative. ThunderCats was an “anime” originally, so it is only fitting for a Japanese studio to be handling the animation. As for the Stones of Power, I think it’s a cool aspect being introduced to the series. The fact that Claudius is being more represented does suggest a more story focused “pre-Exodus” era, which I think is awesome. I would love to see the struggles between Jaga and Grune rather than Mum-Ra almost every episode. And more new ThunderCats can be implemented this way too. This new series has the potential to go beyond the 80s series.

I’m ashamed to admit that I never watched Justice League, so I’m not familiar with the people you mention. I’ll probably have to check it out from my local library or rent it from Blockbusters to see for myself.
Since Larry Kenney is doing Claudus, there should be no ifs, ands, or buts about his doing Lion-O. Remember, Lynx-O remarked in ThunderCats, Ho, “I hear your father’s voice in yours,” and if WBA and Studio4 say they’re basing the new show on the mythology of the old one, they must include ThunderCats, Ho in that scenario and keep Lynx-O’s comment in mind.

Agreed, since it was a Japanese animation company, Pacific Animation, that did the original series in the first place.
I just checked out Studio4’s website and I can safely say the new show’s in good hands. Their animation samples are impressive, so I believe it will add to the new ThunderCats cartoon immensely.
I’m also in complete agreement about a pre-Exodus start for the new show. It was frustrating to get only the merest glimpses of Old Thundera in the original cartoon; you couldn’t see the planet, its inhabitants, its culture, or any other native Thunderian lifeforms. Hopefully, the new show will correct this and thus add to the drama of the story.
Hello all! I haven’t posted in a while and I am just getting all caught up with the news.
I for one am very excited to hear of a new series and toys. The fact that WB has Larry Kenney involved shows me WB finally took notice to what we the faithful Thundercats fans would like to see in a new series / movie, and that the Thundercats license is not one to be carelessly thrown around for a quick buck.
And I agree, a new series means the movie idea is scrapped, and that is just fine with me.
I’m not afraid to see Thundercats taken in a new direction either, just so long as they pay homage to the original, and having Larry Kenney voice Claudius does that for me. It’s a huge tribute to us fans as well as Larry himself. Larry’s voice really played a huge role in bringing Lion-O to life. I just hope they leave the design of the Sword of Omens as close to the original as possible.
And new toys!!! What!!! Halle-freakin-lujah!! I’m gonna buy out every toy store in Florida. Since it’s Bandai however I expect the figures to not be as large or bulky as the originals. The new MMPR2010 line they released were not as large as the original MMPR figures. They are nice none the less and I expect the same for the new Thundercats line. Hopefully they release a few “special” items like a translucent blue Ghost of Jaga figure.
AND lets not forget that a new toy line should increase the value of the original line as new fans of Thundercats will want to add them to their collections.
One final note: The majority of us on here got to experience Thundercats in it’s inception, in our youth. WE got to experience that. The series, the toys, and all the fanfare. WE got that. New school fans turned on to Thundercats via the new series will not. They will never get to feel the way we did/do about our beloved Thundercats… and while I welcome all new fans to the Thundercats universe, I think we need to always remember that no new series, (be it a good or bad one) can ever take away the magic of Thundercats for us, the original fans.
I’m speculating here, but I believe the people that are skeptical of the series when they hear the term “anime” attached to Thundercats is that they don’t want the show to wind up with some of the cornier elements of shows like the Dragonball saga. Over exaggerated facial expressions, over exaggerated voice acting for some scenes, extremely corny and awkward banter between characters, spending 8-10 episodes building up to a massive fight with one character powering up, then the other, then the other to another level, etc.
I know that isn’t indicative of all Japanese anime, but Dragonball is by far and away the most popular that was localized here in the U.S. I’m also not an expert on anime by any means as I generally don’t find it entertaining like I did 10 years ago. The above listing is just a generalization that can probably be broken down into more specific points and examples. I just don’t feel like doing it. So based on what I find undesirable about shows like Dragonball Z and don’t want to see in the new show, that’s my best guess as to what fans being negative to the show being called an ‘anime’ are referring to.
I think a lot of the issues you mentioned are based on anime written by Japanese writers. The thing that many people are forgetting is that what WB is doing is essentially the same way the original series was created, written, and produced – Stories are written by writers in the U.S., but the animation is being made in Japan.
I’ll point to the direct-to-DVD animated film Gotham Knight as an example of what I think will happen with this series.
Great writers, great animation, and hopefully fantastic story-telling.
WOW!!! Words can’t describe how happy I am about this! I’ve been wanting this for SOOO long!!! How long has a new Thundercats series been rumored? 10 years?
-I love the promo image, but I agree with everyone else. 99% of the time the promo image does not gel 100% with the series. What I love most about the promo image is the TONE that it sets. Darker, moody, definitely action-packed!!!
-Really great that they got Larry Kenney involved with the new series, although he’ll always be Lion-O, it’s great that he’s in the show. And I can’t think of a better role for him, than Claudius.
-I’ll be honest, I’m not a fan of anime at all. OK, I love the cartoons of the '80’s and almost all of them were animated overseas, but I don’t like traditional anime-like Dragonball and those type shows. BUT, as people have said here, this is different, because the show’s being created in America and produced overseas. It’s not an amine series that’s being dubbed for America.
-So, I have to ask, is anyone else planning their big Thundercats premiere party? Cause I sure am!!!
