The animation will undoubtedly be top-notch granted the studio that did “The Animatrix,” “Gotham Knights” and “Halo Legends” will be spearheading it. However, the main thing that will sell the new series is if they bring Bernard Hoffer back. There’s been no mentioning of that & Mr. Hoffer’s score from the original series is truly ONE-OF-A-KIND! MUSIC, MUSIC, MUSIC is key!!! Agreed???

I’m going to be blunt and as to-the-point as possible.
I hope the posters are not what the cartoon ends up looking exactly like, but first promotional posters rarely are that close to the final product. At first glance, the poster reminded me of the way the original cartoon took breaks and ended the episodes for the 5-part ThunderCats Ho mini-series. However, the sword really should look closer to the Sword of Omens we all know.
The whole finding/collecting power stones sounds a bit goofy, but much better than a lot of the changes made in the movie script that was floating around a while back.
Just, for the love of Thundera, I hope they don’t screw around with the core parts of the original. The Sword of Omens cannot be used for evil, and cannot be used to kill “wantently” or however Jaga explained it when Lion-O was going to use it to kill an animal for food. Grune was a ThunderCat who turned evil. Mumm-Ra is from Third Earth. The Mutants and Luna-Taks are from Plundarr and its moons. Lion-O’s father is Claudus, who was Lord of the ThunderCats. Jaga took over the duties of leading the ThunderCats when Claudus was hurt in battle with the Mutants. The ThunderCats left Thundera the same time as all other Thunderians, just before the planet exploded.
Just don’t do stupid things like let the Sword of Omens be used to murder someone in cold blood, or have the ThunderCats be an expedition team to find a new home decades before Thundera explodes, or make the Mutants native to Third Earth. And keep the characters and weapons looking similar to the original, case in point 2003 version of He-Man’s sword vs the 1983 original version…
Personally, until I see and hear something to confirm or deny the look, sound, and story of this new series, I am keeping an optimistic outlook with my fingers crossed for good things. I have seen how a little design change here and there can be a good thing, I enjoy Star Wars The Clone Wars on Cartoon Network even though the characters look a little different and are not voiced by the same people as the movies. They look close enough and sound close enough and the story does not contradict the original material.

I definitely think WB is pulling the big guns regarding the animation as Studio 4C is considered a very good studio. I didn’t like Gotham Knights story wise, but the animation was awesome.

I must have looked at an image of Teen Titans or some other Batman show when I looked up Gotham Knights originally. The animatin quality of the characters on the website, and the animation quality of Halo Legends (which I believe they also did) is incredible. I for one could stand behind this style of animation or something similar to it. As long as we don’t get Naruto-cats or DragonBall ZCats or something that looks like the Justice League cartoons…I’m fine with it.
While I originally stated I wanted Kenny to reprise Lion-O…Claudius is the next best thing.
The Power Stones I agree with the guy above is very goofy sounding…but so far the details are still giving the show a green light for me

Anime studios in the far East have reached nowdays a great level of artistic quality at their designs, it was the wisest choice to trust once again a foreign studio for making Thundercats. I’ve stressed many times in this forum how important would be whenever a new project were to come out to stick to the old successful recipe.
As in the original Thundercats, the aesthetic perspective was phenomal bringing in totally new elements to the overall cartoon presentation lasting even to this day, history will be repeated one more time making us happy and proud after so many years.
Honestly, i can’t find any fault so far,WB by joining hands with Studio 4C is paying respect to the Thundercats saga and seems to be making a very serious and responsible work, the process of producing anime of high caliber is expensive and requires a lot of time and effort and keep in mind this wouldn’t be just for a limited 6 short films like in Halo Legends or Gotham night. They are in for the whole run. Which means a brand-new series of 2 or three seasons at least. More often than not one Japanese anime season is spanning 24 episodes.
As the VP Register mentioned their aim is to appease the old fans but appeal to the young generation as well. This statement strengthens my belief of how thoughtfully they progress in making the new Thundercats, if WB had sloppy plans they would just make do with a silly mainly kid-oriented show like they ones we so regularly see. Thundercats bear all the necessary credentials for a magnificent anime,cartoon, sci-fi&fantasy series with mature storytelling based on crucial issues which inspire heroism. One thing is for granted, we still don’t know the writing team but there are plenty of great scenarios to delve into. Thundercats’ concept never had problem running out of ideas and they should take advantage of that.
Bringing on board Larry Kenney is one more sign of the right direction the things are going.
To tell you the truth i liked the Prince Lion-o designation, instead of Lord, maybe Prince suits better for starters!
The concept art emanates a dark and mature approach,it’s so early to pass judgement.

Finally, the great news that gave us happiness came the same time when one of the acclaimed Thundercats creators passed away under the most gruesome circumstances. May our joy comfort his soul.

Why not? On top of that, they can improve the recipe with the current advances in computer technology. Take for instance animes like Gankutsuou:The count of Monte Carlo featuring unusual visual style and backgrounds rendered in 3D or the science fiction Ergo Proxy having a blend of 2D digital cel animation, 3D computer modeling and digital special effects . The sources are immense, the knowledge now is more extensive than ever employing every artistic medium. Thundercats desrve this treating and in my opinion we will be talking about a revelation in the anime and cartoon world. There are so many rare and good elements put into one which can make Thundercats the favorite show for any anime Otaku, movies and series fan or young kid.
To each their own personal taste. I personally would hate if it looked like either one of those two series based on some episodes I just looked up on youtube. I’d have been into that style of animation, maybe 10 years ago when I was watching Dragonball Z, but in my late 20’s now it just doesn’t appeal to me.
I would MUCH rather it be animated like either the Dual or the Package from Halo Legends. Oh man…if it looks like the Package (which people that say they hate CGI, just take a look at that and then explain to me why you still would hate a CGI Thundercats)…THAT is high quality animation. Thundercats done in that style, would be incredible. Again I’m an ‘Inside the Rankin/Bass box’ kinda guy when it comes to a new Thundercats cartoon, but I was thoroughly impressed with both of those from Halo Legends. I’m really really really really REALLY hoping that is the direction they take for this show and not making it too animefied for my taste. Again, that’s just one man’s opinion.
Also hoping the Thundercats keep their “let’s get physical” 80’s spandex outfiits. Hate to see Lion-O running around in some sleak pant suit.
On a more serious note, most Thundercats fans have been followingg the show for two decades. Most young kids are oblivious to the show. Thundercats spread like wildfire back in the 80’s. It worked then, it will work now, there’s no need to change the story, some slight updates to the character design is acceptable.
This is all such a long time coming! It was getting to the point that I thought we’d never see a new incarnation of Thundercats, but I’m so glad it’s finally happening. I’m keeping my mind open for anything. We have the classic 130 episodes. I won’t expect the new show to be exactly the same and I wouldn’t want it to be. I want to see something new; fresh characters, new mythology, unknown villains, and cool new weapons. If this is balanced out by elements of the classic series, then all the better. I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us!
It doesn’t have to be like any of those two aforementioned anime. My reference was just to describe the diversity and range available at the animation techniques at pressent. Surely, there are plenty ways to make the best and aesthetiacally accurate Thundercats design exploiting to the maximum the sci-fi and fantasy potentials of the series.
Additionaly, this new Thundercats has to be good considering that it also bears the burden of taking the place of a new movie, this alone ups the ante for the upcoming show. The variety is demonstrated by the different animation styles of Batman’s and Halo’s episodes, 6 episodes each one with distinct art.
The Avatar-style, Package was really great but in my opinion deviates too much from the simple and colourful yet beloved cartoon aspect, and most people might not like that. In my mind i had Origins II for the opening and the narration, like imagine at the first episode reciting the story of Exodus from Thundera with the graphic style of Halo’s Origins II. Homecoming or Prototype could be fitting for Thundercats episodes, maybe toned down in dark and less linear.
The concept art reminds a little of the hazy and shadowy graphics of the Duel. Halo Legends is one of the latest works of studio 4C, released early in 2010 and it would be resonable if they conveyd some elements to the Thunderacats designs as well.
let’s just celebrate for right now. when i read this on G4TV i almost crapped my pants… almost? who am i kidding, i’m super excited!
only thing i would suggest for those that are already bashing it and its components is say lets collectively try to be heard to what we’d like to see for the show. cant say we didnt try if we did that. agreed?
