I’ve been wanting to do a recurring thread of new DVD and Blu-Ray releases for a while, just to clue people in to what’s coming out. I was just waiting for a good time to do it. And now seemed pretty good. So without further ado…
Lady & The Tramp- It’s out for the first time on Blu-Ray. If you’re a lover of Disney movies (and who isn’t?), there is no question this is a must-buy.
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1- Skip it.
A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas- I haven’t seen the Harold & Kumar movies, but I hear they’re funny as hell. Kind of like latter day Cheech & Chong movies. But I’ll probably want to at least see the first one before seeing this.
It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World- A classic comedy from the 1960’s that featured pretty much every comedy star of that era who was alive: Buddy Hackett, Sid Caesar, Mickey Rooney, Phil Silvers, Jack Benny, Milton Berle, Jimmy Durante, Jonathan Winters, Buster Keaton, Don Knotts, Carl Reiner, Spencer Tracy and so much more. If you’re a lover of classic comedy, this is one to see.
Casino Royale- Not the Daniel Craig James Bond movie, but rather the 1960’s production that I think was one of the first major attempts to bring Bond to the big screen…and sort of failed. It went through four different directors, and it shows. It’s more of a comedy really. But it features such noteworthy actors as David Niven, Orson Welles, John Huston, Ursula Andress, Peter Sellers, William Holden, Deborah Kerr and…Woody Allen(?!) Worth looking at at least once if you’re a Bond fan.
The Deadly Spawn- Finally we have a B-Movie from the early '80s that’s kind of become a cult classic, mostly for the alien prosthetic effects. Cheesy, but fun.
