Does the board feel that the producers should attempt to incorporate types of character designs similar to these into the new series? Or at least just these costume designs? I say this because I feel the new series has plenty of artistic potential to depict the various alien cultures of 3rd Earth, which would be a shame to waste. Perhaps they could depict the more humanoid residents this way?

I think folks are more interested in the story, rather than design for the most part. However if they brought back Tarshee from The Doomgaze, they could draw inspiration from the final pic you posted

I think folk prefer the original character designs for the 80’s series. There are a lot of old school fans on these forums.
Ah, that explains the situation. I’ve never seen the original before(I was born in the very late 80s), so the 2011 series is a first start for me.
Also, I’m from SouthEast Asia(which didn’t show the original series) so I mostly grew up on old Looney Tunes and various anime cartoons.
I’ll be more careful so not to step on any toes then:)
I think it’s very possible for there to be some asian designs in the show in the future. Especially when they get to characters like Hachiman. Though they probably won’t be quite what CLAMP would design. Different styles and all. Also you’re not alone watching the show and looking at the designs. I’ve been trying to get some info from Dan Norton on the show’s visuals. lol

Asian designs would be nice, although I’m hoping they don’t use sterotypical Asian designs. I mean, the whole Chinese/Japanese robes have been done to death already.

Balgus pretty much already said what I was thinking before I read his post. Hachiman is the most viable way to introduce designs inspired by such fashion.
Also your last post makes me think of how a possible population of Hook Mountain could look.
I guess people tend to go with the robes thing because…let’s be honest, they’re easier to draw. Not that much detail is required.
I find your post rather interesting, I’m currently working on a doujinshi that requires me to design clothing and/or amor for over 50 characters. And this fashion has to look like something from mideval times and back. So I understand your opinion on looks being important.

True, robes can look the same, but they come in many forms too!
Just a reminder that the characters introduced do not even need to look human. Just imagine other animal people(ie foxes) in those costumes.
