They already mention that Mattel is shooting for the animation look like the new Filmation Classic MOTU line. That’s why they are retooling the head of Lion-O after they got the feedback from the first exposure at the expo.
I’m all about the animation look. So much I disliked as a kid the figures not looking near similar to the ones presented on TV.
Many fans around the world would agree on that.
Thundercats was successful worldwide as a cartoon and there are many fans just waiting for the right moment to collect something meaningful from the line.
Even tough I don’t have any of the MOTUC, I think those figures look really cool… It was too late for me to take advantage of the first released figures and now the Beast Man figure cost more than $100 a piece… I would not commit the same error with the Thundercats and with the V2.0 of the MOTUC Filmation line…

These being sculpted by the 4H, and reusing classics parts is the coolest thing. I’m just not happy that Mattel is running the line. Still, I suppose I could wait and see how these turn out. I could always get them way later if they aren’t botched LOL!

This might sound weird me defending Mattel now but to be fair this is the last year or so of the MOTUC line and they are trying their best to get everything out like they said. Which I guess is kind of cool of them. They do seem to have learned from a lot of mistakes over the years. I hope we can get some of the NA and 200X figures they never got around to releasing like King Randor and Sagitar etc.
I am all in for Thundercats and I am definitely going to get some MOTUC, especially some of the characters I had growing up, and some other Marvel, DC and TMNT figures to display with them.

I actually have no problem giving Mattel credit where credit is due. For example, the choice to make the laser figures light up in a line that is predominantly Non-Electronic features was great and I’m very happy about it. However, if the final product ends up having wide spread issues, then I can’t commend them for that, since most of the common issues should have been eliminated after 8 years IMO, and it really doesn’t seem like Mattel cares enough to try and prevent issues from arising. Mattel may or may not have been responsible for the bait, but they sure were for the switch regarding the snake torso.
But anyway, I sure hope the Thundercats line has as little flaws as possible, because it is right up there as one of the most beloved properties of the 80’s, and fans deserve the utmost quality in this product.
I wonder if they intend to make the eyes light up for the Thundercat figures.

Honestly I hope not. Unless it’s some kinda con exclusive figure. To do that they’d have to make the eyes clear, and I’d much rather have painted eyes. Though from the looks of the prototype I doubt it’ll be a feature.

It would be cool if they did a Build-A-Figure and included a piece with each figure. That way they could get an extra two figures a year.

I think that’s a terrible idea. I’d cancel getting two subs if they do that. Why do it? Are all MOTUC like that? Why start now?
No. The two MOTUC figures in question are laser light Skeletor and He-Man. Both vintage figures had a light up feature which they are replicating for the 2 figure box set. MOTUC do not have action features.

The light-up feature may’ve worked well in the past for most toys, but I’d rather not see it in the new Mattel “ThunderCats” line.

It’s not hard to understand. MOTUC do not have action features so there is no need to worry about Thundercats having light up eyes. More to the point, the body construction wouldn’t even allow for that feature to work even if they wanted it to. Laser Light He-Man and Skeletor are only getting the feature as it is a back pack like the old original toys and they are only getting it as they are a special item as it is basically the end of the line.

I agree with that statement. By the way, I will be buying those laser figures since the originals are up o $2500 and $3000…
The lighting eyes are not necessary and only be applied for an exclusive figure of Lion-O and Mumm-Ra. After all we don’t want to rise the cost of producing our new beloved Thundercats line right?
