I don’t know if there are any Naruto fans/watchers here but IMHO it feels like there is a heavy influence in the new series.
First of all the character designers, the faces in particular. Young characters have very similar head shapes and facial features with the designs of manga artist’s Masashi Kishimoto. The new designers also seem to be quite fond about naked toes…
Another feature that seems surprisingly similar is the appearance, characteristics, speed and powers of Jaga’s clerics with ANBU ninjas (Black Ops) from Naruto.
Their faces and identities are hidden, however they live among regular people. Additionally, they wear very similar clothes with the Kage (village leaders) and when Jaga was running among them in these suits, someone could actually swear that was watching a ninja team attack from Naurto!
Also, Jaga seemed to have a similar role of a Kage in the kingdom (Village?) of Thundera: leading magician and battle lord, however not the absolute ruler of the place.
What do you guys think? Have I been watching too much modern anime lately or there could actually be an influence? Don’t forget that Naruto is the most successful Japanese franchise worldwide since 2004…
Oh f*** no. Sorry but I really really hate this show. You know “Naruto” rips off fight scenes too? And yes I gave the series a chance in 2004 and watched the first few episodes. It’s a kidde DBZ to me. And he’s such a brat that can’t ever really fight one on one.
Putting that shows name with thundercats? Hell no.
The series has improved a lot since the beginning. The first 50-60 episodes are very disappointing indeed, but later on and especially since Naruto grew older (aka Naruto Shippuden) it is absolutely watchable and I enjoy it quite a lot. Especially the manga, as the anime has too much filler content.
It is one of those things that you underestimate before you get into it. I hope that underrating will not be the case with the new TC series, it has gigantic potential.
The real influence for the ThunderCats-anime was the Avatar-Series and nothing like a cheap ninja-ripoff were only the uchiha-stories are well-known constructed. Compaired to the other Jump-series, Naruto targets children from the age 6-14 years in compairison to HXH and One Piece where the fanbase is much, much older.

I actually like Naruto, but no, I don’t see much of a resemblance other than maybe some occasional slight superficial thing that you’d see in a lot of other anime as well.
I stopped watching anime a long time ago. My bread and butter were goofy series like Slayers, Ranma, and Tenchi, and fantasy like Escaflowne and Record of Lodoss War. I’m guessing that if I like the new Thundercats, I will probably like Avatar?
Well .. I like Naruto, and I’ve spend a lot of time watching it, but I must agree that there is so little in resemblance with TC that all relativity is probably accidental.
you can take any 2 shows you want and draw direct comparisons, anime or american cartoons, but saying TCats was heavily influenced by Naruto is a bit of a stretch. if anything, the comparison’s you made are simply indicative of an overall anime influence, as they are kind generic attributes.
well I am a huge Naruto fan, it is easily one of my all time favorite cartoons and comic series and I can’t really see any similarities other than them both being very anime-ish, for the obvious reason of it being an Anime in Naruto’s case.
You could make a comparison with Disney’s The Sword in the Stone if you want comparing Lion-O to Wart
Both characters are underappreciated, live with their “heads in the clouds”, live in the shadow of their “superior” older brother and yet one day will make wise and powerful kings wielding powerful magical swords (which have both appeared in the TC toon).
