Mysticism: Cheetara vs Wily Kit

Hey folks…sorry if the title isn’t better, but I had some difficulty putting my thoughts together on this one. Sorry if I ramble…

Was just thinking about something since the second episode onwards…

Though Cheetara belonged to a ‘religious order’ (from my vague understandings of things), it seems to me that Wily Kit is a bit more open to the mystical thinking (from the meditations of the elephant-people through the use of song).

True her belief in lion-o returning may be a ‘childs’ refusal to accept a bad thing happening, but I’m curious to see if they will take her in terms of liking lion-o (kid crush?) to maybe a more jaga-like mystical aspect (which Cheetara really doesn’t seem to hold so far).

Thoughts?

i agree with what you said and it could be that she has an innocent crush on liono. i also find it odd that her of all people still had faith that liono was still alive while cheetara the cleric’s faith was non existent. the other thundercats also didn’t react like i thought they would about their king dying. they seemed to have moved on pretty quick about his death without much emotion.

Mysticism: Wily Kit and Cheetara

Exactly (at least in the parts about Wily-Kit and Cheetara).

I can actually understand some of their reactions, Panthro, the General, had seen quite a bit of death while on the battlefields. Wily Kat had grown up in a harsh almost ghetto like atmosphere without family (beyond Kit). Tygra was trying to distance himself, perhaps in an attempt to rationally come up with a way to avenge Lion-o (by taking the sword back) and prove himself to the others…aka he was trying to keep busy to avoid thinking about it.

Cheetara’s reaction threw me off (as did Kit’s)…

It would be cool to see Wily Kit develop a bit more independent of her brother (like how they did in the comics if I remember right), and perhaps fill a mystical ‘vacuum’ that is currently there (as well as some street smarts thrown in with Wily Kat).

I definitely like the new series version of these characters much better…

You also have to remember that they’re in a war, and it was Cheetarah herself who said there will be a time for mourning later. Both Lion-O and Tygra have had to push aside a lot with the death of their father and we only get to see a few glimpses of their own loss because they’re too busy just trying to stay alive and one step ahead of Mumm-Ra’s forces.

Kit’s faith in Lion-O may or may not be motivated by a little crush on him, you do have to remember that he only died in the first place because he was trying to protect her, so there’s that too.

Also let’s be sure we’re not confusing Mysticism with Spiritualism, they’re two separate things. Kit’s faith in Lion-O’s return is more spiritual in nature, the belief that his soul was still alive but separated from his body. That said her flute does appear to have some mystical properties, what with it’s ability to charm those who hear it.

Plus one. I’m a bit confused about a lot of the reaction to this. Did people really expect to see her break down and sob her heart out? She didn’t do that with Jagga.

She clutched the broken lantern that Jaga’s spirit was contained in, which demonstrated at least some emotion about his passing.

I didn’t see her have any emotion at all about Lion-O in either of the Trial episodes. I would have expected something - frustration, anger, sorrow - considering her alleged “mission” was to look after him. Instead, we got a blank stare. Whether that was purposely written or just a by-product of not having enough time to explain everyone’s reaction, I don’t know.

Well, Jagga was a constant presence in her life for years. Her scenes with Jagga in the hour long premier and her reaction to him in Journey support that she did have a close relationship to him, and felt strongly about him. We know she was an orphan, so maybe he was something of a father to her? Even so, her reaction wasn’t as severe as Lion-O’s to his father’s death. I think she’s better at controlling her emotions then some of us like to give her credit for.If Lion-O remained dead after sunrise, then I imagine they would have performed some sort of funeral service. Then I would expect more sorrow from the ENTIRE group. She did show some emotion though. She looked sad when he got pushed, and in the cell she and Tygra share a moment of sadness in reaction to Kit’s persistence that Lion-O would come back.

I think Kit’s feelings were intensified because she was indirectly responsible for his death. Not that she doesn’t have feelings for him, but it would be understandable to see why her reaction was more sever then that of the rest of the group.

I expected Tygra’s reaction to be the biggest one. I would have liked a bit more from him, but all things considered he couldn’t spend time crying. Better to put that energy into figuring out how to salvage the mission.

This is a very interesting thread, for the most part.

I think too much can be read into feelings and which character loves or fancies or has feelings for who, and whilst it may be part of the future story that kit has a little crush on liono, it certainly doesn’t need to be explored any more than that and is probably nicer if it is just alluded to. As for the feelings of grief and mourning at lionos death, I think the lack of that was more due to the time constraints of the episode than any failure on the writers part or a reflection of any characters.

Now, back to the point of the thread…

I think there is a LOT more potential to explore the mysticism side of cheetaras character, what about the spirituality or the beliefs of the clerics, which obviously she was raised with? where does their mystic power come from? Will cheetara have some form of psychic power as she did in the OS?

I think it is really interesting to explore that side of kits character too and can certainly develop the twins seperately as they grow and evolve throughout the series. A spiritual side to kit has certainly been alluded to so far. And as for the music, I think there is scope to develop that too, is it the flute itself? Either tech or magiic? Or is it the music? If so is it something to do with kit herself playing the music or the music having magic on its own regardless of who plays it, and if so where did kit learn it?

She mentioned her mother taught her the melody. That was probably in the first episode.

Actually, just saw the first episode with the elephants, and she mentions it there (just before they start the rock shattering parade).

Merged Post:

Actually, I’d think it more interesting if they build on Kit’s penchant for meditation (that she has shown with the elephant episodes), and have her be the one with the psychic powers (possibly her effects with the music is another aspect of this ‘power’ ?)

But you’re right, I’d like for them to explore a bit more of the beliefs of the clerics, which seems very light at the moment. Other than hiding the Book of Omens, and perhaps as a set of bodyguards to the king…what was their purpose? beliefs? etc…

What can I say. It was an elephant memory moment

Hmm, I must have memory lapsed that bit myself! Lol! Well in that instance the question would still be where kit and kats mother learned the music and if the magical effects comes from the cats or the flute? And there’s certainly room to explore her meditating more alongside the spiritual exploration.

I personally think it would be very interesting if kat took the opposite route, getting very into technology from liono and panthro or learning about strategy from tygra. Logic vs spiritualism. It would create - not tension - but an interesting dynamic between the twins.

I also think there is room for a cheetara episode or two, exploring the spiritual aspects and beliefs of the clerics whilst building on her character.

Mysticism, spirituality and now tech

I agree, though I tend to think more the cat than the instrument. Case in point, Tygra being able to go invisible (camouflage).

Though it comes off my topic a bit, but does anyone find the complete embracing of technology by the cats other than lion-o a bit fast? It seemed that it was originally a fairly technophobic society (except lion-o) but now the kits love their boards, Tygra enjoys the tank (and gun). Pantheon has shown an inclination since the first with the tank, though I would like to find out when his opinion started to change, and where his knowledge came from to build the tank.

Perhaps some more flashback episodes?

I think the cats are, like us, creatures of comfort. If you bring electricity (and fridges, TV, throw in cable and internet access while you’re at it) to a tribe in the Amazon jungle, they’ll love it. They’ll never want to go back to their previous, simpler ways. It’s the same with the cats. They have cool things they didn’t before and what’s not to like?

As for Panthro, he didn’t build the tank. In Legacy, there’s a scene where they show an advanced city (El Dara?) being invaded by dozens of tanks. I’d guess our General borrowed one from Mumm-Ra’s pyramid when he was there with Grune.
