Mumm-Ra- very minor variant.

I’ve been looking at this for a while. I kept seeing Mumm-Ra’s on eBay that have a bright red headdress that looks slightly of. Like they were put on wrong or something. All of these Mumm-Ra’s [I’ve seen] are the “first released” version (described here) with the small eyes etc. So I deceided to get one.

As you can see the headdress doesnt fit properly. It turns out its too “fat”, meaning it’s to snug on the inside and the 3 wedges are a lot chunkier than in other headdresses so it doesnt sit well .

Also this figure has a small difference in the sculpt. As you can see below on the left, there is a thin border around the Battle-Matic-Action™
opening. The one on the right is also a first version Mumm-Ra, but has no border.

Carded versions I’ve seen are 1986, US 14-backs. A lot of loose versions are offered on eBay UK. Out of the 10 “first release” Mumm-Ra’s I have, 6 have this border. Later, improved Mumm-Ra’s, dont have the border.

Nice spot… I’ll have to dig through my spares box see if I have any of these, I know I have the headdress as I never liked the way it sat. Love you keeping us up to date with variations.

As always I am fascinated by the subtleties that you discover! Thanks for bringing this to our attention!

Sheer awesomeness.

I’m pretty sure my childhood Mumm-Ra was this version. I don’t have it to check, but the headdress would never sit right, always had to blue tack it on.
