According to a Variety article, Warner Bros. has decided to drop Venice-based visual effects house Digital Domain for the upcoming animated movie, ThunderCats. Digital Domain was originally signed on to do both the video game and feature film including a proof-of-concept test footage, however WB is said to be going a different direction with the project.
The good news for ThunderCats fans is that the project has not been cancelled and will move forward with a different direction.
Well I guess there’s no need to panic yet about there not being any movie. I hope that something will be released! :sneaky:
I guess I will however have to buy a video game player if there is a Thundercats game introduced at some point. The last machine I owned was a TurboGraphics 16.
I hope this is good news… I don’t know if they’re going in a different direction in cgi or story-wise. hopefully it will be for the good either way. I guess we’ll find out sometime… it’s good to know that they still are making a movie either way. I just hope they are making the right decisions. Do you have any other knowledge on this, Manny?
As long as the animation of the movie looks real sort of like Beowulf or Gatchaman,it should be a big movie! But with all this said, will the release date be pushed back?
I’m assuming so T-Cat. This news makes me feel like WB is still way in the early stages of production and are/were still looking for the best way to bring the movie onto the screen. I doubt they would have dropped DD if the CGI for the movie was already being produced. I definitely see this adding on a delay.
Along with the script, I am guessing character design is probably all they have at this point.
I wonder if the new direction the movie is taking is going to lead us to a direct to DVD release of the Thundercats movie for sale in stores instead of a nationwide theatrical release?
DC (Warner Bros.) seems/d to do a lot of that especially with their Batman franchise… also with the upcoming animated Wonder Woman movie.
Other studios like Fox have also done the same with their Futurama show.
Nope! Thundercats has too much hype for a direct to DVD release!
Off topic a bit, but wouldn’t a live action movie version of Silverhawks be good for a new generation? George Lucas could do the movie!(with the success of the Iron Man movie, I think we could see more airborne superheros be made!)
I thhink they did that with Futurama cause it has sort of a geek following, and wouldn’t do well in theaters. I mean, who’d go see it?
Also, us Futurama fans wanted more episodes, so each movie can be broken down into episodes for TV anyway.
THUNDERCATS would need a theatrical relase :liono
This last bit of news makes me worried. I really hope they don’t end up scrapping the movie. I won’t feel secure until they have a voice cast and animation has begun.
