Now, if I remember correctly, Monkian, Jackalman and Vultureman were never as big in the classic series as Slithe. And really they might be even less so if they ever actually appear in the new show.
But if they do, I just gotta say this, something I’ve always felt. Now, Monkian I’m fine with. But Jackalman? Vultureman? Those aren’t names, they’re the type of animal followed by man.
Now Slithe, that’s a name! Hell, even Monkian passes just by. But Jackalman? Vultureman? Those once again are not names in the least.
So, if they do appear in the new show, those anyone else feel like they deserve real names?
I don’t remember wher I read Jackalman would be given a name in this series (that and that Vultureman would have wings). But I think that subject will be tackled in this series.
Hmmm not sure about that one. Call me a traditionalist/nostalgic whatever but I kinda liked the other mutants generic names. Then again their voice overs were full of personality so it made up for it. Vultureman with his crazy high pitched voice (Earl Hammond) and mad scientist demeanor was probably my fav mutant so I’m not sure if I’d like him to be renamed. I think that the Monkian name should definitely be kept however. Jackalman could be renamed so long as it refers to the original name somehow.
They’ve said in interviews that they’ll all have their own names this time around. No word on what those names are yet though.
I hope they don’t give them names too different from the OS’ ones.
They all had their moments in the OS: Jackalman in “Jackalman’s Rebellion”, Monkian with “Monkian’s Bargain”, and Vultureman I think had the most after Slithe with “Superpower Potion”, “Vultureman’s revenge” and many others.
But yes, Slithe was the main one.
Maybe now that Mumm-Ra has called Slithe in his ineptitude (in the upcoming episode), he will look for allies and find one or more of the other Mutants; after all, in the first episode those lizard men told Lion-o that the cats took away things from everyone else, indicating there might be other species that resent and hate the Cats, not only the lizard men.
I think a way of handling their names would be to introduce them by their real names then have Slithe just refer to them by Jackelman and vultureman. Sort of a way of showing his power over them as their boss by insulting them as he always did in the os. Hope that makes sence.
Indubetably. I think that will be one of the main plot devices we will see used. All the other species of animal mutants will have their own personal beefs and reasons to battle with the TCats. Maybe they’ll even bring back Rataro.
to me vultureman and rataro were the most dangerous and smartest mutants the others were plain stupid and did not do much of anything. for this series i believe that they could be once again done the same way.
In the spanish translation their names were more based on their species like the TCats instead of using the suffix MAN at the end.
Vultureman and Rataro as a team would be great to see. And a new Ratstar.

This actually does make sense and would be very fitting. I like it!
I wouldn’t mind if they gave them legitimate names, but in a world where the name He-Man exists Vultureman and Jackalman aren’t all that bad.
I like the idea of Slithe not bothering to know their real names.
I’d like to see a fully fleshed out vulture society. Vultureman was seriously smart; he just lacked common sense. I can imagine an entire society of vulture technogeeks. 
I kinda want to see the monkeys reimagined as a normal peaceful group…the analogues for the previously human characters in the OS. Monkian could be the rogue power hungry member that has a bone to pick with the Thundercats.
I loved Vultureman.
His and Pathro’s little…ahem… spats regarding who blew up who’s machine were priceless.

Ok, so I’m not that clever at giving names.
They could have renamed Lion-O, Simba.
Obviously, I always thought Slithe and the Reptilians just seemed to be the coolest-looking of the Mutants (Ocelli and I made them the primary villains in our story for a reason). Aside from Ratar-O, Slithe was the only one who really had a name, and thus stood out more as an individual. Since Jackalman and Monkian lacked proper names, they didn’t stand out as much. And Vultureman just came out of nowhere with no introduction.
Still I thought since he was the Mutants’ resident Mad Scientist, I thought there was still potential with the character, and did have an idea for a story which had him as a central antagonist. It took place after our main story arc. The idea was that Slithor killed-off his uncle Slithe along with the rest of the Mutants and Lunataks…except one who escapes unnoticed (I’ll leave it for others to guess who else it may be!) We state that Vultureman had actually disappeared earlier while trying to build a time machine so that they could have escaped through time. And the stories featuring the surviving original villains would be followed-up on later.
The Vultureman story would have been a time travel story, and I had a great idea for how to do his reveal: It would open up in in a top secret Nazi factory. Two SS officers are talking to each other while approaching their commander, his back to them, observing the construction of advanced Luftwaffe aircraft. One of the officers refer to their commander as Herr Geier-kopf, and the other reminds him never to call him that to his face. They stop behind him, saluting, and the commander turns around. It’s Vultureman! Dressed in a full SS-Commandant outfit with a long black trenchcoat, he snaps to attention, giving a seig-heil salute!
It turns out that Vultureman’s time machine worked and dropped him in Nazi Germany in the middle of WWII. And that it was actually he who designed the Luftwaffe’s advanced aircraft like the Me-262, the Ho-229, it’s bomber variant the Ho-118…and lots of other far-out weapons. Of course, the Thundercats have to go back in time to the 1940’s and preserve the timeline and stop Vultureman from winning the war for the Nazis.
I had come up for the idea for the story years ago, but then Captain America came out and I saw that it basically had the same idea with how the Red Skull was portrayed, but I still thought it would have been a fun and cool story to write.

That’s a pretty cool story idea. Have you ever come up with an origin story for Mumm-Ra?
Ding-ding-ding! Onto the bonus round!
Yeah, her and Amok slip away into an escape pod. They end up crashing on a planet where the natives worship them as gods, and that’s where the Thundercats find them. They offer her amnesty in exchange for helping them with the newfound alliance and providing them with info on the Lunatak pirate cartels. So she and Amok kind of end up being reluctant good guys.

My theory on his origins wasn’t actually too diffferent from Mumm-Ra’s Wrath. Since the show identified him as a “devil-priest,” I figured he was some corrupt Egyptian high priest who made a deal with the ASOE in exchange for immortality and absolute power. He just didn’t figure he had to die first to do it! He ends up being arrested by the Pharaoh for heresy, is executed, and resurrects as Mumm-Ra. He then goes on a rampage that’s pretty close to what was depicted in the OS where he’s defeated by Wizz-Ra, and his pyramid is buried so that it is hoped no one will ever discover it. A young woman who lost her husband to Mumm-Ra’s attack offers herself to the Pharaoh and the ASOG as a guardian, and she becomes Mumm-Rana to act as a counter to Mumm-Ra should he ever return.
I’ve thought about when & how they will introduce all the other Mutants. I believe we got to see a few members of Jackalman’s race at the very beginning of the pilot episode. The ones that attacked Lion-O in the market sure looked like Jackalmen to me.
Hopefully when they are introduced, they get treated well. I was always a fan of the Mutants, and they’ve done a good job with Slithe so far.
